Ehhhhh.

I have no strong feelings about this one way or the other. Although my mind immediately went to merchandise, with my first thought being: "Oh great, this means yet another Godzilla monsterart."

I don't know how to feel about a Godzilla anime.

Gaim DID love wasting episodes on promotional episodes after all!

Godzilla is a major pop culture iconic. Just in Japan, but across the whole world. Of course Godzilla will be that important. Shin Godzilla is making big money in Japan, so Toho wants to keep the hype train going. We also have Legendary Pictures doing their own Godzilla franchise too.

But what can Gen Urobuchi do for Godzilla?
The series will naturally focus on the humans, but I think with how he likes to write, Godzilla will be more of a set piece I feel.

^Everyone dies expect for Godzilla :P. I hope we get another giant monster. I would love to see what they can come up with.

Raw-like-a-rare-steak violence and a compelling story I guess.

I mean, he is specifically skilled at recontextualizing well-worn genre tropes...

If he can do for Godzilla what he's done for magical girls, henshin heroes, and giant robots, my ass is so on board this train.

I can't wait for Destoroyah to have a tragic backstory!

I am cautiously optimistic. Mostly the latter.

So then the Kaiju's are transformed people? The Mecha-Godzilla pilot becomes a god (or Mothra, which I hear is about the same)?

Jokes aside, that does seem to be a trend for him, save his bare initial involvement with Aldnoah.Zero, with no man-gods or mechas-are-really-people tropes in sight.

I'm down with this. Hideaki Anno and Gen Urubuchi both giving us Godzilla within a year? Yeah, I'm down.

Sounds like this might be interesting, and if that image is anything to go by, it should be beautiful. Yeah, I'll definitely give this a look when it comes out.

Most likely. The US is the like the second biggest market for Godzilla. It will probably be a few months after it is released in Japan. My guess Funimation could pick it up given how they are releasing Shin Godzilla.

Gen. Well, judging from his past works Godzilla is going to be in for some serious shitake mushrooms. Very interested to see where this goes though. Very excited.

As well as the groundwork for Aldnoah.Zero, which was all went to pot after he went off to do Gaim :lol

I hope the CG is good. I do think Japan can pull off good 3D animation as seen with Captain Harlock and the upcoming Gantz film. Not to mention Ajin: Demi-Human look pretty great and this is coming from someone who is a big fan of the manga. So I have hope that the animation and story will be good.

Yeah, I know.

Godzilla is at his best when he's a set piece IMO, if you're going for a real dramatic story and not a camp fest of monsters fighting in ridiculous ways. It's hard to give character to a force of nature like he is without making it seem too campy. Plus, he loses his allure when he's over-exposed.

You don't have to focus on the natural disaster, it's impressive enough just doing what it does. The people and how they survive is where the movie's heart should always be.
