Ninja Steel casting update
 

It seems the original choice for Ninja Steel Yellow has unfortunately left the show.

Actor Nico Greetham will be taking up the role of "Calvin."

Recasting hmmm? Can't wait to see the new season.

And this Twitter post of his makes me think Yellow was recast to avoid another Trini situation.

Why would it be another Trini situation? He wasn't asian?

It's probably a personal problem, going by his twitter he was doing fine on set just over a week ago so something abrupt had to have turned up to make this change happen.

I hope it was nothing too severe or confrontational. Never good to have that kinda negativity.

Yes, he is. He's an Asian-Pacific Islander... which you'd know if you read the tweet GoseiWonder linked to. ;)

I'm kind of bummed out, I was looking forward to the diversity of this team! There would have been three Asian men, a black woman, and a Latina woman. I guess I'm still pleased by the diversity, but it would have been pretty monumental if every one of the rangers was a person of color.

for the record, Greetham is biracial (he is apparently half-Columbian).

So the Ninja Steel team is still a highly-diverse group, just not in the same way as we originally thought.

Whatever the reason hope Chantz does well in his future endeavors and hope Nico does well as the new yellow ranger.

It really would've. But then again, an Asian playing the YELLOW NINJA Ranger was bound to rustle jimmies of busy-bodies who think that's racist type-casting, regardless of how racially diverse this team is as a whole, how the Asian Rangers would be the majority of this team thus not making them Token Asian characters like Trini was in '93 and EVERYONE is a Ninja on this team so it's not an ethnic stereotype either.

Maybe they'll give him the role of StarNinja as compensation. That'd rock because I want him to still be a Ranger.

Completely off speculation time!

If he is Asian, then it prompts more questions than it asks:

A): Did no one see this when the first guy was cast?

B): If they did see it, why did the casting and Saban allow this when they knew that backlash was possible because of the issue with Trini and Zack, to say nothing of Overdrive doing something similar?

C): Have they even started filming yet?

All that said, hope the original finds peace in another endeavor and the new guy works well with the remaining cast.

Or maybe that has nothing to do with it. There's always the chance he had to go back to the US for some reason. Like a family emergency.

"Unforseen circumstances" = He wanted more money than we wanted to pay him.

That's sounds about right greed.

If it was greed, they wouldn't have gotten that far with him. Same thing for the issue of casting an asian actor/actress as the Yellow Ranger.

I'm guessing he left due to either a family emergency or an illness.

I'm more inclined to believe either of these explanations. I don't think it's an issue if the Yellow ranger is Asian if there are two other Asian rangers. The problem with Trini was tokenism + color assignment, IMO.

If he was greedy, then why not Greedham...I mean Greetham? Come on, they're taking a Chantz on him.

I guess that could be a reason it just make sense. It very weird that they would change casting after the revel at power morphcon.
