Kamen Rider Ghost Episode 49- "Infinity! Power Of Humanity!" Discussion
Takeru has ONE day left before he dies. Again. For real this time.
Will it be enough to stop the Greateyzer? As always you can view this episode via live stream on Saturday by heading over to Taima TV. They play other miscellaneous programs up until the live broadcast starts. Live Streams of the Superhero Time block start at 6:30 PM Eastern Standard Time on Saturdays. |
Great Eyezer attack is begun...
Great Eyezer turn people into ball and absorb them.... Cubi, Onpu, and Jabel also absorbed by Great Eyezer... Genm's action when he kill many Ganma with his bicycle looks very awesome.... Takeru has difficult against Great Eyezer and finally Takeru's mother appeared in flashback.... Takeru with help 15 Heroes finally can defeat Great Eyezer...... All people who absorbed by Great Eyezer is back... Takeru connected to Great Eye? And....Takeru finally can live again..... Yeah...this episode looks very fun despite the final battle looks not really interesting...... Hmmm.......the Global Freeze more scarier than Great Eyezer in my opinion... The best part in this episode is Takeru's mother and Genm's actions... |
So um... all of you guys literally wondering who Yurusen was...
Yurusen is Edith's cat that was in his Eyecon Pod. |
Hahahahaha. At the beginning there I was like..."hot damn! A night battle? At last? I don't think we've had one of these since episode 1 or something. And that wasn't even actually night iirc. Cool..." But then, nah, Great Eyezer can turn night to day. Why the hell not.
Such a damn shame the light up features of the base suits for Ghost and Specter only saw use like, once each. Oh well. But at least there's GENM, and damn! Is that GENM's theme? Cause it kicks ass. We haven't heard too much of it, but Ex-Aid's soundtrack is sounding pretty damn solid so far. And seeing him in action was just pretty cool in general. A cool little tease for how all this stuff (probably won't) work in the actual show. I'm particularly interested in how he used the Kimewaza Slot Holder to bring out the Sports Gamer. Can he just do that cause it's a bike? Will the Riders be able to bring out all the Gamers to aid them in battle independent of their Level 3 forms? Things to think about. Also, I...really do not even see how the Sports Gamer can fold or turn in any way into the armor shown on the catalog for the Sports Action Gamer form. That's gonna be some serious CG magic, because no matter how I look at it that's just a regular bike. Hype is real for Eguzeido tho. ...Honestly, the Eyezer suit was cool enough. Was there any real need to turn it into a lumpy giant CG monster? Friggin meh, honestly. Javert loves Alain confirmed. I know I'm not the first to say this but I am glad that all of the Mugen finishers are being used. I wasn't expecting the Love Bomber to show up this far into the show, as I apparently never factored in that they could go for the familial love thing as the trigger. The mom reveal is a little underwhelming, but satisfactory enough I suppose. Could have had a worse result (that was the least convincing fake baby bump ive ever seen though). Wow what even was that Tutankhamen voice? That...was not what he sounded like the other times he's spoken. wth lmao. Wow, he actually got a running start for that Rider kick. That's so absurdly rare these days, but it makes such a big difference. Pretty decent kick. Wait...so...Edith's capsule was just laying around in the temple this whole time? And somehow nobody noticed? What the even how? Like it's not even hidden it's just there in some room. I really never saw it coming but Yurusen being a cat is perhaps the best possible explanation we could have ever gotten. I think maybe they should have emphasized or played up the "can't eat food" aspect of Takeru's ghostly existence throughout the show. They made a gag of it with the Ganma a few times, and there was Alain and Javert's whole ordeal with discovering that they need food, but I don't think Takeru himself ever made any reference to missing food up until the scene with the Great Eye, yet they played it up so much after that. I see what they were going for but after a year of it not being a thing making it a big thing just comes across a little weird. But that's just me. All in all...it was Ghost. It was a pretty decent finale for the show, and...I mean, yeah. It did its job. |

You know what, at this point I'll take it. |

Got to say though I did enjoy that final battle, using familial love as the trigger to Love Bomber was great, and I do enjoy it when the power of love is used to destroy giant god monsters. Then we cut to Great Eyezer still alive so Takeru and the 15 Eyecon's essentially gang up on him, but I thought that was pretty cool to see. Also the Opening to the show predicted two things, the feathers holding the memories of Takeru's friends when he activates Love Bomber, and then the sky diving sequence, this time with all the Parka Ghosts. lol |
Oh man that was out of the park amazing. I was pretty sure the last couple episodes would be good but I'm sooooo happy Ghost has such a strong finale. Even the Ex-Aid crap was tolerable, at least compared to how Drive did it.
There are a lot of mediocre shows I like way too much but Ghost isn't one of them. It was a thoroughly enjoyable ride from start to finish, and I'm so sad it's been as polarizing as it is. Truly underrated in a way shows like Kiva or Wizard could never even hope to be. I really look forward to the epilogue. At this rate they'll find a way to make that completely amazing too. -- Quote:

I don't know, ask me a couple months from now when I've got some distance from it but it might be my new favorite favorite. It's goooood. I'm kind of upset about it because it seems I'm just fated to love Kamen Riders that everybody else could care less about. |
Yurusen is a cat.
Yurusen....is a cat. Nya Also, Ex-Aid is Mumen Rider apparently. |

"Hey so the show's ending soon, what the heck's the deal with Yurusen anyway?" "What?" "Well like, is it a Ganma? Because all the Ganma look like people." "Maybe it's a Ganma cat or something?" "Are you being serious?" *Jots down "Yurusen = cat" on a piece of paper* |
This was a great finale. We finally saw Takeru's mom and Takeru cams back to life. My biggest question is, can Takeru still use the eyecons and transform? I loved the Yurusen eyecon at the end how Yurusen was a cat. I found that kind of cool. Good to see the Ganma back to their normal forms and same with Cubi. I'm definitely going to miss this show. I'm glad we get one more episode next week.

I think there's only one thing that's bugging me.
What were the Gundari? Like no seriously, what were those things? |
Okay, so that was definitely better than Faiz's ending. It's a low bar, but it's an important one to clear and Ghost at least managed that.
It was an all right ending, I guess. Nothing too special, nothing too awful. A lot of it felt pretty rushed and it had Ghost's usual habit of not fully explaining everything (has Infinite form always had random-ass powers that make no sense or is that new?), but it at least ended with a solid victory and some okay character wrap-up (and terrible, terrible flying CGI). The biggest things that stuck with me: - Gotta love how smoothly executed that Ex-Aid cameo was. Totally fit with the narrative flow and had major repercussions for the rest of the episode. :rolleyes - Onari barely had any lines and that is always a good thing. - I guess parental love was kind of a theme in this show? Ghost dad looked super damn bored, though. - What's with the random orange and black form Takeru pulled out at the end? Kinda late to be debuting new forms, show (in fairness, it does look vaguely familiar, but I can't remember seeing it on the show ever). - So the old man had an actual crazy old sage costume lying around, complete with wig? Why? And why did he feel the need to change into it? - I was wrong; the show did remember Javert. It also remembered headband dude from those two episodes. Apparently Mr. Bills was not important enough to bring back, though. - What happened to the other twin? (S?)he was nowhere to be seen here. - I assume the Ganmeisers immediately revived yet again after the credits rolled. Only one episode left. Halle-fucking-lujah. |

I think I finally figured out how to put my main problem with Ghost into words. This is slightly off-topic since it isn't so much about this episode, but I can't think of a better thread to put this in so here we go.
It doesn't feel like it has a real heart to me. The only things about the characters I empathize with are so cliche as to be practically superficial. The show feels very dull and preachy. I can honestly, without any spiteful exaggeration, say that I enjoyed Wizard more. When I think about Wizard, I think about Nitoh's earnest shenanigans, or the comically stoic Haruto, or the looming (albeit predictable) threat of the Phantoms. When I think about Drive, I think about Chase's struggle with being a good guy, or Shinnosuke's classic heroism (for some reason Shinnosuke stands out to me as more of a "hero" than a lot of Riders), or all the weekly Roidmude mysteries. When I think of Ghost, I'll think of Takeru looking indecisive with a white glowy filter, and Mugen no Kanosei. That's pretty much it, until I start thinking about the logistics of what I actually don't like about the show again. I don't want to get too specific since my problem is an abstract one. The show just feels bored with itself, like it's just trucking through its episodes occasionally throwing out a mildly interesting idea that it got tired of. Kind of like it was written by someone who was really excited and had a bunch of cool ideas he wanted to sew into a great story, but someone convinced him that it wouldn't work, but he still had the job so he just kinda threw it together, disappointed, using pieces of the ideas he liked the best and not really caring enough to explain them. But anyway, in a word, the show feels empty to me. I can't really explain it that well, but it doesn't feel as sunny and warm as Drive, Wizard, or others do. I think part of it is the characters being too preoccupied with telling each other how great Takeru is, or talking about how they're going to deal with the next boring problem. They feel very one-dimensional, like they, as characters, are tied to the story's plot points/problems, giving them depressing connotations when I think about them. When I think about any of the characters, I can't think of any characterful, interesting moments with them. I just think of mundane scenes where they talk about problems. Takeru floating in whiteness talking to voices, Alain kind of grabbing a villain to hold him off while yelling, Makoto standing there thinking about problems, Akari sounding worried and optimistic at the same time while talking to somebody about problems, Onari holding his hands up awkwardly while making an exaggerated face at the current problem, etc. When I think about a character from any other Rider show, I don't get such dull connotations from them. I'd list some examples, but that'd be like the fiftieth time I've done that in this post, heh. This post is becoming kind of a mess, I keep thinking of ways to word things and having realizations as I write it. So yeah, I'm pretty sure that's my problem with Ghost. It gives me very dull vibes as a result of the way its characters are handled, I guess. I want to say it's not exactly the characters, it's the vibe of the show, but that's largely dictated by the characters so I guess they are the main problem. |
This was the weakest Rider finale I have ever seen. I liked next to nothing about it. It never even felt like a real finale to me.
Takeru's mom was really shoehorned into this cheap, like damn. For one I'm glad that she didn't turn out to be the Ganma queen, but the pay-off was not worth it. Like, the message is sweet, don’t get me wrong, if someone grows up never knowing their mom seeing her like this is a gift of unbelievable love, but in the point of the show it didn’t feel like that this was the puzzle piece Takeru needed to win. This should’ve been handled in a side-plot much earlier, and they could’ve had some Harry Potter-thingy going on in the finale how the spirits of Takeru’s parents protect him one last time or something which triggers this flashback. I didn’t feel the side characters either, they did what they were always doing and it felt cheap and fake to me like it always did, and Javel sacrificing himself was terrible. Not sure if it was worse than Igor’s love sacrifice, but at least equally bad. I don’t know what else to say, the whole thing was bad. The CGI monster was shit, the last battle was cool I guess but I wouldn’t even call it much of a battle, and the last shot was okay I guess. Then there’s the badly implemented crossover element. Just stop. It’s always bad. Like, Genmu or whatever he’s called was cool, the bicycle action was awesome, but I would rather wait a month and see this in the show it belongs to. Same with the next episode which will be another complete mess. Can they not wait to advertise the next season toys in their fucking shows? Jesus. Also, another little thing: The explanation behind Yurusen is okay I guess, but that cat was fucking terrified and angry. They probably couldn’t find a professionally trained animal so they took one of the crew members' cats and that’s just terrible. Poor cat. But, and I want to close with this: The ending must've been really awesome for that Japanese kid who was (is? hopefully not!) terribly ill and watched Ghost in the hospital. I really hope he was at home watching the finale; it would really cheer him up. I hope he returned to his normal life like Takeru did, if that kid died I'll be really sad. |
.....Ok.......Wow. Just....WOW. RANT INCOMING.
THIS WAS SERIOUSLY THE BEST THEY COULD DO?!?! There are SO MANY ISSUES with this finale, the heck were they thinking?!! 1. Could they bother to explain just who or what Frey was in-universe?!! They just leave it to the audience to assume she's some sort of avatar for the Great Eye or something??? But even that could be wrong & be something else....And I love how Takeru just has NO reaction to seeing her there, like as if he knew all this time... -__- Actually now that I think about it, maybe he DID know while he was dead before being revived for Mugen, and met her then.....but then that goes into another question.... 2. WTF IS THE MUGEN EYECON?!?! And NO, before people start quoting the news articles, what's bad is that the ACTUAL STORY doesn't explain that!!! And this Episode, the Mugen Eyecon just disappears.....WHY?!! Because Takeru learned his last Emotion?! LOL I don't think they put much thought into this Final Form, honestly....But speaking of Mugen.... 3. They pretty much state that Takeru was evolving into....whatever the heck the Great Eye was??? Or was Frey referring to herself? Well that'd be cool & all....if we actually KNEW HOW THESE GUYS FUNCTIONED.... 4. Can someone explain to me just what the Sage transformed into Dark Ghost for?!! I mean, honestly, I don't see why the writers had to do this honestly, if in the end he wouldn't even use those powers to fight. Alia at least attempted something while having brief Kamen Rider powers....but when the CGIclops showed up, he was sitting around cowering.....SIGH, ya know, seeing the Sage like this, I miss back when he was Edith....At least back then he actually was active..... 5. Makoto & Alain---ok, now that I think about it, EVERYONE BUT TAKERU CONTRIBUTED NEXT TO NOTHING TO THIS FINAL BATTLE!!! MY GOSH, talk about making your protagonist a Gary Stu, THIS IS JUST.....Specter & Necrom just got to fight FRICKIN GRUNTS while Takeru got the big battle.....WOW. 6. OK, I held this off too long. The CGIclops....OK, the Greateyezer comes out & first thing he does is....Well first, priority goes to turning night to day!!! OMG, what a GREAT display of power.... -__- But yea, the first action of combat this thing does is transform into that huge thing?!! Come on now...!!! Show off some ground combat first & save something that huge for a LAST RESORT...!!! 7. Takeru's whole stupid MOM ORDEAL.....SO THEY WAITED UNTIL NOW TO CLOSE THIS SUBPLOT.....AND IT. WAS. LAAAAAAAAAME. You're SERIOUSLY gonna pull Takeru finally remembering his Mom NOW OF ALL TIMES, with NO REAL SIGNIFICANCE to the time of this reveal, just for some cliche protagonist motivation to get back up & fight again?!! (Which BTW, Takeru just sitting there tired & saying "Sorry I couldn't stop him" was just WEAK. There have been worse situations where the protagonist was at a point where they felt helpless....) Just to go & ONE-SHOT THE FRICKIN THING.....WOW. And since we're on the topic of his mom.....Wanna explain why the heck Takeru can talk to his father now too all of a sudden?! Know how much more interesting it'd have been if the Tokon Boost Eyecon's Hoodie actually acted as Takeru's father & communicated with him just like all the other Eyecons?!! 8. OH, but they're gonna make it up for us with a ground fight, right?! Well....I'm not gonna lie, they.....SORTA did. I will say, seeing base form Ghost in action after so long was refreshing, and I did like all the Legendary Eyecons helping out in fighting......but still, REALLY, the Greateyezer put up literally NO FIGHT?!! This was WAY TOO EASY overall for Takeru. 9. Cubi, the Maestro Ganma & Javel.....coming back.....for NOTHING. Javel especially had potential, but....just like Igor, they dump in an action that is out of character. Yes, Javel was on the path to becoming good, but GEEZ this is rushing it...Was waiting for something a little more meaningful to come out of their wandering, but.... 10. THE SAGE's COFFIN WAS IN THE TEMPLE THE WHOLE TIME IN THE CLEAR. AND NOBODY KNEW?!! STRAIGHT-UP PLOTHOLE. 11. Soooooooo....Takeru's wish....YUP. NOBODY DIES FOR GOOD IN THIS SHOW, CONFIRMED. Not just the heroes & civilians, but the FRICKIN GANMA ENEMIES AS WELL. O hey there again, Gyro, where've you been? >__> There are many more issues, but these are pretty much the biggest I could immediately point out. Overall, Ghost has now become one of, if not, the worst Kamen Rider Series. And it really, REALLY frustrates me to say so, due to just how much hype I had for this show when it first started!!! I LOVED the designs, I LOVED the concepts.....and then the story didn't deliver. Takuro Fukuda, you have some SERIOUS work to do if you wanna continue writing stories like this.... |

Not much of a finale. No emotional weight behind it. I recall someone saying that Gaim had a weak finale but I disagree and will compare the Ghost finale to the Gaim. In Gain, there was an emotional sense of the world being at stake, at least in my opinion. Kaitou had grown alongside Kouta and even worked with him on certain occasions. Seeing him turn monstrous for the sake of his ideals is saddening. The final fight between Kouta and Kaito felt less like a fight between two men and more like a clash between two titans. All because of the emotional weight present in the story. Ghost has a enemy that sprang almost out of nothingness (I understand that the suit is from the 100 Eyecons movie and Frey/Freya is from the web series but since they aren't from the main storyline, I consider their appearance jarring), which transforms into a gigantic yellow cyclops which Takeru can't defeat and then all of a sudden, he can just because he remembered his mother. I would have accepted that as well if only they hadn't brought her so late in the story. As such, her involvement seemed almost pointless to me even if her appearance allowed Takeru to defeat Ganmeiser/Exsaizer/Freya/Whatever the heel it was. On the brighter side, boy am I so glad we got to see Genm. was Genm, right? Or was it Ex-Aid? I think it was Genm. If Ghost has done anything right, its that it had made a splash of color masquerading as a superhero look much more awesome then it had any right to be. |

Either way, no. It's more like the opposite, really, given that the Ganma don't have Eyecons anymore. |

I hate to say it but I always felt like Ghost's supporting cast is like the token characters in anime which only stand around fights to comment what's going on without adding anything personal or engaging into the fights themselves. Of course the characters of Ghost had their development, some of them at least, but Onari, Kanon and the temple boys are so worthless it's infuriating. And even Akari who is my favorite support character form Ghost did nothing worth noting after the portal opened. Such a waste. There’s still one episode left but I don’t expect them to deliver a fitting end. Or maybe mediocrity is the fitting end for this show. Quote:

I liked the ending, mostly because of the music and how well it was used to convey the feelings. *Runs away*

It could just be Genm without capitalization, but it's a company name and looks more like an acronym so I'm going with GENM until proven otherwise. |
Great Eye, Imma let you finish, but I just want to say, Sauron did it better.
I don't know. Mixed feelings with this. But that's been the whole series. It had some fun elements. But Onari was so annoying, his moments of doing productive things just still were grating. Kind of the same for Akari, this seasons morality pet...er...mortality pet. She had moments where she was useful, and then others where she just came across as background fodder. A lot also has to be said for Shun Nishime. For literally 3/4 of the seasons episodes he was just milquetoast. Very little in the way of emotional reaction, cardboard. Ryosuke Yamamoto who was supposed to be the blank wall of non-feeling had more emotion the entire series. And maybe that was how it was supposed to be played by Nishime, who knows? I think the original character was supposed to be a young man who suddenly is considered in charge of the temple but is so bored with it, he'd rather be studying history. That doesn't mean be bored for 180 days dude. The other part to this was plot. Is Takeru dead? Is he out of time? No, because there is a persistent deus ex machina for his character. Part of me wanted him to stay dead just to get it over with. But I am glad they didn't Faiz him out of existence. My favorite character for the season is Alain. Stupid lime green sweater and all, he had the most range and backplot possible. The Fumi plot was a nice touch. Do I care that Yurisen is a cat? Nope. Why? Because Triumph the Comedy Dog has a song for that. |

In all honesty, the finale left me feeling... baffled more than anything. It just felt like I was waiting for it to disappoint me, and it did on some level, but there were more moments of just confusion at what had taken place.
Why was Eyezer's first display of power breaking roofs and turning night to day? "BEHOLD MY POWER! I rotated the Earth 180 degrees on its axis! GAZE UPON ME AND DESPAIR!" Also, why did it just immediately turn into CGI garbage? Really Eyezer/writers? You couldn't have come up with anything other than animation blob? What was with that Genm cameo? It was cool, I loved every second of possibly-evil-Mumen Rider, but he just showed up, did Specter and Necrom's jobs for them, and left without a word. Probably to get back to the right set. "YEAH, take that Bugster scum!... Wait, this isn't the hospital..." Why did Takeru just hand wave the fact that the voice was his mother? I mean, it was fairly obvious, but I don't think they ever directly addressed it. It was just *voice* "Mom?". And they couldn't get Ryu's actor do do more than stand there being weirdly menacing? I get the character's probably not even all there, but yeah, go ahead and blank stare your son. Why did Takeru think it was a good idea to leave the city destroyed? I get what he was saying bUT SERIOUSLY!? OH YEAH, JUST LET THE NORMAL HUMANS CLEAN UP THE MESS WHY DON"T YOU!? *cough* And then there was the eating thing. I would have really liked the coming back to life scene more if it didn't seem like even the writers forgot that he was dead half the time. It was a great scene too, where he got his body back. Though there was a bit of anxiety where I thought his new body was someone else they would be bringing back to life with him, like Adel or, idk, his parents. It could have happened. Overall, it left me kind of conflicted. I wanted to like it, but I also wanted to just hate it and move on. Sitting in the middle like this leaves a strange feeling, not loving but not hating. Oh well, at least now I can look forward to Dockta Raida some more. |

Well, that was an ending. One of the weaker finales I've seen... but it made more sense than Den-O's. It's not as good, but it had more build up and wrapped up the overall story better, I feel. Nothing too special about it though. It was like Ghost in a nutshell- generic character stuff, side characters not doing much, and Spectre being written out halfway through :p

Still would be amazing if that's true though! |
Yeah I'm pretty sure the only reason GENM didn't say anything is because they've been trying to be extremely secretive about his identity. They haven't officially revealed anything about him, technically not even the fact that he's called GENM. If he said anything that would immediately allow us to know who he is, which they clearly don't want.
It would certainly be an interesting idea for a character though...also, may still be true, in a sense? I'm pretty much convinced he's Parad, who's a Bugster, and Bugsters being game viruses...well, they're probably AI. And his establishing line was "fate is like a puzzle game..." well, probably not exactly what the speculation is going for, but eh. We do already know regardless of anything else that he's a higher-up in the Bugster ranks though, so rather than fight mooks he's more likely to command them tbh. |

In fact, considering how dynamically Alain changed during course of Ghost, starting as a villain and ending up as a good guy, I would argue that he is main character and Makoto is his sidekick. |

I figured I'd be used to liking shows other people hate by now but all the negativity I see surrounding Ghost every week really harshes my mellow. I'm kind of glad I waited till 40-some episodes in to start posting again. I think the biggest reason I'm looking forward to Ex-Aid at this point is the hope I can actually be on the same page as everyone else for a year again. I mean, there's no way people could end up thinking it's worse than Ghost, right? ...right? |
