Kamen Rider Ex-Aid Episode 1: "I'm A Kamen Rider!" Discussion
Come on & get your game on! New Rider series begins today! :D
Medical intern Emu encounters a mysterious new virus in his latest patient. How can he save lives and stop the chaos? As always you can view this episode via live stream on Saturday by heading over to Taima TV. They play other miscellaneous programs up until the live broadcast starts. Live Streams of the Superhero Time block start at 6:30 PM Eastern Standard Time on Saturdays. |
Well the stream was a laggy mess. Sounded decent enough, but I barely saw more than a bunch of lag.
From what I did hear/didn't see, didn't look like a particularly groundbreaking first episode, but the teases with the other Riders at the end and other neat stuff was thrown in throughout. Fairly basic introductory episode but a lot of hints towards other things coming. Interesting that the first 10 Gashats are seemingly so significant. Didn't catch everything though...did they get Taddle Quest after defeating the Salty Bugster? Is that's what's happening? edit: that is not what is happening. It just counted as a "Game Clear" for MAX. Which is interesting to me. Ex-Aid has been described as a Rider who needs to clear 10 types of games, the Gashats. But...most of them are going to different Riders. How is that gonna work? Is the team as a whole gonna have to do it then? Questions aplenty. And like, what even is the significance of clearing the games at all? |
Very cool episode..
The Graphite Bugster has Gashacon Bugvisor....maybe he is Genm? So...the brown boxes appeared after M transform into Ex-Aid... Hmm....the Ex-Aid Level 1 vs human turned into Giant Bugster remind me to Wizard's battle against Phantom in human inner world but still looks interesting.... The brown boxes has Energy Coin for Ex-Aid and Ex-Aid obtain Speed Up Energy Coin. Really cool feature.... The fight against Bugster Virus and Salty Bugster also really cool...... Overall very good first episode..... |
Oh floating boxes and all these graphic effects, how I'll miss you once the budget runs it's course.
I'm already in love with this episode and subs aren't even out yet. I enjoy how very Mario and Sonic Ex-Aid Level 1 is, and then we get a good fight scene with Level 2. I also enjoyed that giant blob monster, reminds me of Yellow Devil. Also is the name of the first monster really the salty bugster? |

Anyway, watched the lq raw, pretty cool episode now that I can see it properly. The action scenes were pretty great, and in particular Ex-Aid's body language is friggin fantastic. The entire way he moved while initiating the Critical Strike, it was just beautiful. This is the first time in a while that the suits are unencumbered enough to really move so much in them, and it looks like they are really making the most of it. Also noticed a few things: the selection screens are in the show, so we're probably getting 3 (?, couldn't count properly) more GD Riders. The colors on the edges of their squares appeared to be white, pink and...yellow maybe? For what that's worth. Probably not much! And another, very very interesting thing: the game machine in what I guess is the main CR room is actually DoReMiFa Beat, and Poppi Pipopapo is actually one of the game's two mascots--alongside the guy with the headphones that's on the game art of the Gashat. This is extremely interesting. And I really want to know what it all means! Is she an AI? A Gamer robot type thing herself? Will she turn into the Beat Gamer, or is her robot friend something completely different? So many questions. |
I enjoyed it. The action was fantastic. I know they'll eventually cut down on all the crazy jumps (lots of wirework) but it was a joy to watch in this episode. I love the suits, as I did from the very first time we saw them, so seeing them get such boisterous action is a huge plus. The Rider Kick was more like an onslaught of kicks and I had a blast with the way they pulled it off.
Emu seems like a fine main character, wants to help people out and has a past with a doctor that lead to him wanting to become a doctor himself. The fact that we didn't see the doctor's face leads me to believe he'll probably be important at some point or another. Definitely looking forward to the next episode. |
I'll admit, when he blew on the cartridge thing I got a laugh out of that.
|
How was the story, quality- wise?
|
I think I'll wait till the first 10 episodes are done.

From what I saw, Ex-Aid's definitely got some good first impressions, Emu's pretty funny from what I understood (Don't die on me now, come on! *shows that Emu's just gaming instead of performing CPR*), and if my assumptions are correct, the game motive actually fits the story well so far, kinda like if BOARD distributed games. Visuals were great, though the first batch of episodes tend to get higher budgets I hear, and that fight scene was great, it showed us how Ex-Aid fights, it doesn't let the collectable gimmick get in the way, and Takaiwa made it look like Ex-Aid was enjoying himself, which fits Emu's character |
I really want to watch this, but I'm not watching it raw and O-T are still deciding whether or not they actually want to sub the series:(
|
This new group will apparently be subbing the series-

haven't seen it but it looks like Ghost only it doesn't expect you too take it seriously which I like cause shows like Wizard and Ghost expect you to take what is going on seriously(you expect me to take Shunipi and Onari seriously)
|
Definitely going to need to rewatch after it is subbed, the episode itself was easy enough to follow, but I'm sure there's some important character or plot details that I obviously would have missed not understanding the dialogue.
That said, I really enjoyed it. The show just appeals so much to my inner 90's kid. Like when he blew into the gashat to initiate his rider kick? Fucking sold! Loved it haha. I can see some of the sounds getting a bit old after a while during the battles, so I'm sure a lot of them will be phased out. But I did really like the style of it, and the fights were pretty good. Some great energy. I am way behind on Ghost (yes yes I know, still), and I do fully plan to get around to finishing it, because I was enjoying the season, just life got in the way. Definitely want to stay on top of this one. Emu seems like a likeable protagonist. I like the medical drama backdrop and obviously love the gamer theme it has going on. Again, hard to fully comment based off the raw, but I am hooked so far. Tonally it kinda reminds me of Fourze in a sense, just in being a kind fun and lighter-hearted show with some feel good moments, and the CR or whatever reminds me a bit of the Rabbit Hatch. There were some potentially darker undertones I can see maybe becoming more pronounced in the future which I certainly would enjoy as well. |
Over-Time will not be subbing Ex-Aid.

These newbies seem to have experience, so we'll have to wait and see |

Don't get me wrong, I'm rooting for Excite Subs; as the only non-TVN option right now they automatically have my viewership. A weekly series is rough, though, and not every group can make it work. Hopefully, these guys are more like W-Time than Orange Lion. |

With no, for lack of a better term, "competition" hopefully Excite Subs can finish the show off. |
GUIS can't even commit to Flashman and Changeman, so I wouldn't want them touching anything current.

I'm a little salty that they're not subbing it, but hopefully these excite guys do well.

I just hope that this Excite group is legit so I don't have to deal with Nihon's delayed subs. At least for the first episode since I want to review it. |
Downside - Excite has announced "Henshin" will be translated to "Transform".

Okay, watched the raw and I'm seeing a lot of promise. There was some goofy comedy, but it seemed more isolated than Drive or Ghost and there is no character that even remotely reminds me of Onari. The show seems to largely be taking itself seriously and I'm curious to see where it's going.
That said, the ending was a huge WTF moment for me when the girl got sucked into the arcade machine and turned into Smart Lady 2.0. Really not sure what the hell to make of that. |

Hopefully Excite'll be good. Guess we just have to wait and see. Though seeing as they're a new group, hopefully people will cut them some slack if their first release isn't absolutely perfect. Takes time to get into the groove of it. |
Cant wait till it is subbed

If anyone needs subs, they're right here |
Well that was mercifully fast.
|
Not bad! Enjoyed the first episode and am pleased with their subs. Only saw one error towards the end. I honestly hope these guys make it through the year.
|
Well that was different. It's obviously hard to get a definite opinion after one episode but yeah this seems like it'll be a fun year. The style is a bit more Gaim and a bit less early-Heisei than I was expecting but it makes sense the show about video games wants to be a little loud.
And these Excite! guys are okay I guess. That font is subtly hideous but I don't think they translated anything wrong and that's the important part. I feel like some things were written in a slightly clunky way but that's nitpicking. |
