New Details on the Return of Gavan
2 Attachment(s)
More information concerning the long-awaited return of the Space Sheriff has surfaced!
*The Space Sheriff will return to theaters October 20th of this year! *For better or worse, veteran Gavan actor Kenji Ohba will not be reprising his iconic role. Instead the torch will be passed to a younger actor, relative newcomer Yuma Ishigaki. *The film's director is Osamu Kaneda whose resume includes "Lets Go Kamen Rider" and the recent "SuperHero Taisen" summer blockbuster. So is he going to be giving the dude his powers?
I suppose it's all fine and dandy if Kenji Ohba is in the movie and is actually passing down the torch himself. I don't know a lot about Gavan , but i am fine with this.
Is it just me or is the fact that the power's just getting passed along kinda weird? I mean, Toku and power passing haven't been in the same room since Zordon era Power Rangers. Maybe if the suit's different...
from the picture I saw the suits are only slightly different.
Noooooooooooooooo!
Damn it. I don't like that director.
Can't really complain about there being a new actor, if the franchise is going to come back, that was always going to happen. Kenji Ohba is just too old to be a lead actor nowadays.. as long as he's in the movie to some degree, I think it's fine.
I'm more surprised that the new Gavan suit seems to be almost identical. Maybe he'll get a new one later on in the movie though. |
I will be missing Kenji dearly, hope they make the passing of the power an epic event
My interest level just dropped hard with no Kenji.
I think it's a good idea, although Kenji Ohba was a great actor. He's a toku icon, but the industry needs to keep the actors fresh, especially if they want to attract a younger audience. I fully understand and support the decision, especially if it's a way to bring the Metal Heroes back in some way or another.
I like this director well enough. Wish it could've been the guy who did Mega Max but this is good too!
I was game until I read who the director is. Of course, Osamu Kaneda might do better with it not being a crossover, but this doesn't instill confidence

Story about Retsu helping Geki, Retsu's successor, in defeating the unannounced enemy.
Ooba Kenji as Ichijou Retsu / Gavan (1st) Ishigaki Yuuma as Jumonji Geki Nagaoka Takuya as Geki's partner Ookuma Tooya Morita Suzuka as the heroine Sherry Producer is Hikasa Jun Kushida Akira will sing the same theme song. Gavan (1st) will have the same orange eyes and chest panel light effects, while Gavan (2nd) will have blue eyes and chest panel light effects. Gavan (2nd) will have machines and attacks that are based and refined from Gavan (1st)'s. Toei Video's producer Sato Gen hopes this movie can lead to a full series for the new Space Sheriff legacy. http://hochi.yomiuri.co.jp/entertain...OHT1T00017.htm |
I'm pretty excited about this. Not so happy about the director, but eh. I just really hope that Ohba is actually in the movie to pass along the powers, as others have said, instead of this new kid just HAVING the powers.
Well supposedly people who've witnessed the filming say that there is definitely a scene with Retsu passing his powers on to the new Gavan.

I can't say I'm surprised that Kenji Ohba wouldn't return as Gavan. The guy's awesome, but he's getting a little too old, so it would make sense for him to pass the torch.
It doesn't appear that Retsu is giving up his power to Geki. Geki, the new cadet, being assigned to whatever section of the galaxy with the code name "Gavan". Retsu still has his combat suit, and Retsu has his own. The movie will feature "W-Gavan" in the big battle against the unknown.
It still sounds quite awesome. I think the cadet idea is more brilliant than Gavan giving his powers to a newcomer.

Well Ishigaki Yuuma isn't that new at all. He has been in the show business for at least 10 years.
As long as Ohba is actually in the film (and by the looks of it, he is), I'm fine with a new casting. Especially if this is the start of plans to fully reignite the franchise.
So I take it the "new" Gavan suit is the one on the left? If so, I like it. :p
So Kenji is passing on the power
