Hmm....my another thread....

Hmm....every series has writer including Super Sentai. Hmm...so, what your favorite Super Sentai writers?

My favorites is:

Yasuko Kobayashi because I am really love her works in Super Sentai especially in Gingaman, Timeranger, Shinkenger, and Go-Busters.

I am also love Toshiki Inoue especially in Jetman. My favorite things in Jetman is Gai character, triangle love story, and relationship beteween Ryu and Maria.

Didn't Keita Amemiya also work on Jetman? Inoue is a damn work horse!

Apparently the industry loves him because of his work ethic.
His end results can be hit or miss as we have seen throughout but it seems he is willing to take the tasks that most people prefer not to do and just do it.

We need someone could have the same experience of Amemiya.

It's really hard for me to choose my favorite because they're all so good at such different things. Inoue is so good at melodrama. Sugimura is so good at blending pathos and surrealism. Kobayashi is so good with character and story...

The crown sure goes to Kobayashi as she was not only the one who wrote most of my introductions to toku in general (not counting Magiranger), Sailor Moon, Shinkenger, OOO, but also some of my top favorites, such as Toqger and Gingaman. I really like the way she builds up characters and really gives the team a good balance and chemistry overall. While she tends to have a slump in the middle of the show, her storywriting is more than solid.

Second is of course the wonderful Naruhisa Arakawa. His works always feel VERY Sentai and it's clear that he crafts them with lots of love for the franchise as a whole. I could imagine no other writer doing something that parodies Sentai with as much respect and appreciation as Akibaranger had.

Then there's Michiko Yokote, who I first knew from a manga series she wrote for. She's the main writer of my beloved Goseiger, as well as Gekiranger, which I also adore and worked on Deka and Magi, also shows I like a lot. I feel that her writing has a lot of warmth and positivity to it that I really enjoy.

While I prefer his work in Rider, I also liked what Riku Sanjo did with Kyoryuger and I'd love to see another Sentai with him as the headwriter. He delivers solid work with themes of family and love that, while tragic at times, generally feel very comforting and positive.

Generally, I like writers with an optimistic tone in their work, that can balance serious and light-hearted messages and ultimately give me something emotional to keep in mind at the end.

Kobayashi all the way for me, for much the same reasons that have already been mentioned. Good characters are basically the biggest thing I look for in any show (I'd rather meander through a bad plot with people I like than have an interesting plot full of people I hate), and she always nails that aspect. Her shows also tend to have a lot of... substance, I guess? There's usually some great message or theme to them, which is the other biggest thing I look for in a show.

Also Go-Busters is the s*** and if you disagree you're WRONG. No but seriously, it's one of my favorite toku shows period, and Kobayashi is one of my favorite toku writers period, at that. It probably helps that my first two Kamen Rider shows were OOO and Ryuki.

I must say, Kyoryuger really impressed me though. Riku Sanjo writes shows with a lot of energy to them. It always feels like his number one priority as a writer is being fun above all else, and I can really dig that mentality. Props to him for writing every episode all by himself, too.

Noboru Sugimura ran Zyu, Dai, Kaku, and Oh. He was also one of two writers in charge of Kamen Rider Black and was one of the defining writers of the Resident Evil video game franchise.

If I had a gun pointed at my head and was asked to choose my favorite among my top 3 sentai writers, I'd probably go with Sugimura.

I forgive him for Ohranger because he has so much greatness outside of it. Forgot he was part of Black. No wonder I love that show so much. :lol

I don't think Ohranger's badness was Sugimura's fault. If you look closely, every episode he wrote is pretty damn solid -- including 7 of the first 8 pre-retool episodes, the much-lauded episode 32, and the excellent finale arc. If I were to only take Sugimura's episodes into account, Ohranger would be a top-3 Sentai series... alas, most of the non-Sugimura episodes are real bad, which makes the series as a whole hard to recommend.

Other Sugimura gems: Metal Hero's Winspector and Solbrain series, and the 80s J-Drama Sukeban Deka. The guy is just the greatest, IMO. :lol

I would say Yasuko Kobayashi's is my favorite Super Sentai and Kamen Rider writer because she knew which direction she want for her show and I love she give a plot twist to any Red Ranger!

Timeranger:Tatsuya's descendant was the one who is responsible for release Londers Family and was a corrupt man

Shinkenger:Takeru wasn't lord at all! He was a decoy for Princess

Go-Busters:The reason of why Enter keep coming back because Hiromu was his SoulJar

ToQger:Right was consumed by DARKNESS by Emperor when they invade his home

Definitely Arakawa for me. Even if he hadn't written anything else, he did episode 37 of Dekaranger.

Sugimura is probably second. I'd put Inoue on there, too, but... Inoue.

Oh yeah, he definitely did the best episodes of Ohranger, but wasn't he the one in charge of the overall production? Either way, you are right about his episodes from the show being the best.

Never saw any of those Metal Hero series though. :-(

Sugimura is my favorite Sentai writer. I'm not a big fan of Ohranger, but Zyu, Dai, and Kaku are some of my favorite shows. Sugimura does this wonderful job when creating a world, giving it a ton of lore and making it feel like the series you're watching is the culmination of that world's history. (my two favorite shows aren't by him but he has written more shows I loved than any other singular Sentai writer)

The producer was the one in charge. The writer's job is basically to take their idea and flesh it out. Ohranger is also a show that had a lot of real world issues going on with it, so sometimes it feels weird to judge it just the same as a show that wasn't meddled with.

One thing to consider about Ohranger though, is that to their defense the show fell victim to a series of unfortunate and unforeseeable domestic tragedies in 1995. This made it hard for them to move forward with their original direction making huge shifts in tone and last-minute adjustments, etc. to avoid negativity. Of course, this does not mean them maintaining the original vision would have equaled better ratings and success, but it is something to consider(the show might not have been perfect, but they did SUPER WELL in merch sales so I guess not all was lost :)).

Moving on, Kobayashi to me is the best still and Arakawa is a genius for writing episode 28 of Carranger.:rock:

I think Inoue and Kobayashi wrote the most Toku in the last 3 decades. I know people loved and hated them like me. I just want to talk about what I hate about them.

Inoue's style includes a lot of unnecessary long dragged on misunderstandings for the sake of adding more tensions and drama in every single episode. Also, he can never write good finales. He's kind of a weird perv too with adding all those lame goth-like romance subplot. Blade was pretty good with barely any fillers at all despite it's written by him and few other people. I wish Kabuto was that good. I usually liked his series for the actors, suits, or action.

On the other hand, Kobayashi series aren't that captivating at first because there's no stakes in most of them. She gives her characters a decent amount of characters development including the villains, but all the focus on the villains are vague. I think she wants to make them more relatable and sympathetic like Shinkenger, Go-buster, OOO, Toqger, and Den-O, but it just doesn't work as well as Gekiranger. Gekiranger did a good job with their villains despite also written by multiple writers. I felt like she's always trying to teach the viewers something, but always fail miserably. However, she does make her characters likable and fillers interesting.
