Does the Legacy Megazord Line have a Future?
The Legacy line has just seen the release of the Ninja Megazord with mostly positive reviews. It's selling pretty well from what I see, but the Legacy line seems to be moving at a sluggish rate. The Legacy line began with the 2013 release of the Dino Megazord. Since then the quality of the figures have gone up, prices have gone up. Three years have passed and we are just getting into Kakuranger/MMPR Season 3.
It's been a little sluggish due to the black and gold releases. We will be heading into 2017 with a black and gold Titanus and we have yet to hear any word on a potential Legacy Tor and/or Legacy Shogun Megazord. I fear a black and gold release of White Tigerzord, Ninja Falconzord, Thunder Megazord, and Ninja Megazord might be underway for the next coming 12 to 24 months ever delaying new releases. Repaints are a good sign that the line is doing well however it stifles creativity and could potentially delay if not cancel future releases. That said, does the Legacy Line have a future pass this point? Will we see a release of every zord from MMPR? If so will it stop after the Legacy Shogun Megazord or will Bandai America move onto Zeo? |
I hope so. I'd take just straight-up reissues of old Megazords if that's what it takes.
I think Legacy moves so slow because they're so damn expensive. They're BOA quality at BOJ prices. The Thunder Megazord is still full price some places. |
I think the black and gold repaints are a bit of a problem. It keeps old molds on the shelves a lot longer, which might cause sales to stagnate if a figure doesn't move (Like the Black and Gold Dino Megazord, which only saw a sales bump after the B&G Dragonzord was announced).
As for the Legacy Line, I don't really see much of a future for it. I don't think they want 3 Power Ranger lines on the shelves at once, so I don't really anticipate much from the line aside from their typical menagerie of repaints while movie hype is building and Ninja Steel coming soon. I hope their 5 inch figure line does well, though. |
*6.5 inch.
I'm a bitch. But yeah, hopefully that sticks around. |
Seeing as MMPR is Saban's bread and butter I can see the line ending after we get Shogun Megazord, the Zeo Zords if we're lucky.

I am more concerned about the megazords. That's what I collect. I am hoping that the b&g Titanus is the last we see of the repaints for awhile. I do want to see the line get into other seasons besides MMPR. |
A black and gold redeco of the Thunder Megazord would be nearly redundant, come to think of it.

I didn't even want a black and gold Titanus. It was too expensive for what it was, so re-releasing it just for the small audience that either A) Wants a complete black and gold set or B) Just couldn't find the first release seems to be a waste. But that's just me... Quote:

Honestly, after they give us Shogun, Tor, and Serpenterra, I'm pretty much done with the Legacy Zord line. I just don't really care about any of the series outside of Zyu-Kaku.
Well, that isn't totally true. I may be interested in at least buying the Legacy Carranger Robo/Turbo Megazord prvided they have released the 5 rangers in the Legacy line by that point (assuming the line makes it to them). |
The black and gold redecos are causing it to be sluggish. It seems the main new zord for 2017 will be the legacy black and gold titanus.
|
I think if they want it to live they're not going to be able to go year-by-year after Zeo. They're going to have to skip around and do the more popular Megazords, and maybe leave some combos incomplete, but with a capacity to do them if the demand is there. As for Tor, I don't think we'll see him. With the size of the Thunder Megazord they kind of messed up. He would have to be too big especially for a semi-niche line. Serpentera is a firm maybe though.
|
I hope they do Wild Force if they decide to skip around.

I'm glad I found this thread (though it wasn't really hard to find) i've started wondering this myself. I think BOA has learned its lesson with titanus and the Thunder Megazord both of which are near stupid expensive. I hope we see a Shogun Megazord soon ish and I think if they move on from here it may need to be just the core megazords from here on out. However if they do continue on this tread of doing whole seasons then i'd love to see a fully articulated (well elbows knees, and leg separation) Red BattleZord from zeo

This is a weird place to ask but it is Megazord related, but how common are Megazords in yous guys's areas? I've been looking for the Dino Charge Megazords, but then it occured to me: nowhere near me sells Power Rangers, at all, Legacy or otherwise. And Walmart.ca/TRU.ca's offerings are sparse.
|
I had the Same Problem with Super Mega force that I felt like I got lucky with dino charge but honestly my local stories are sparse with power rangers with Ninja Turtles, WWE, Star Wars, and random Comic book superheroes stuff overrunning the shelves. However i do live in the US and TRU.com is not bad you just have to watch it and check it offten

I have three stores that carry toys near me, and none have PR. TRU.ca has the Megazords on sale, but not in stock.
It sucks because only now are things coming out that I want, or finally going on sale for prices I'll pay, and I can't find any of it. :lol |
I think I have an idea on what's happened with Power Rangers as a brand. I think as a toy brand it fallen out of popularity with the general population and survives off of Nostalgia. I've seen this happen with Ninja Turtles and the movies always bumped the popularity and shelf space I hope the movie does the same love or hate the designs supporting it helps the brand.
|
But Ninja Turtles doesn't need to rely on Nostalgia. Their toys flooded the shelves when the Nick cartoon started, and before that, the 2003 series was pretty popular, too (I dunno how well Fast Forward or the 07 movie did for toys, though)
|
TMNT also comes in waves.
PR seems to remain more consistent. |
Both valid points but the only other toy line that I could even use as a reference that has that kind of consistency is wrestling.
As TMNT fast forward and 07 fast forward was what killed the show heck it never even finished they jumped a season and then had 3 Shredders the movie wasn't bad but it's toy line was well minimal Also TMNT is up there with Power Rangers for me the in space crossover was the best with the worst turtles show |

I'd love Thunder Megazord, but not paying full price for it. If I'm gonna drop $200 on a mecha, I'll go for the Soul of Chogokin Voltron.

I want it. Badly. But not sure how I'll get the $300 for it.
