Sigh. That seems like one of the cheap, oddball designs floating around TurboSquid or Renderosity. It's just plain awful looking. I don't know why I'm surprised, honestly.

This looks more like a rejected Ultraman alien than anything :lol

Honestly ditch the eye stalks and I'd kind of be okay with it.

It looks like ET cosplaying as Ultraman and is wearing a bedpan on top of his head.

why am i not surprised? everything about these designs is like, just make anything and people will buy it no matter how ugly it looks.

I like it! Not a huge fan of the "UFO" head, but at least now we know where Ninja Steel Megazord lost his big ass hat to. In addition, I think the eye stalks are neat!

Exactly how I feel.

Get rid of the eye stalks and remove the paunch. Then it would be perfect. As it stands now....it's ok.

I like it. Of course it's a reimagining but it does just enough to make him somewhat recognizable.

Honestly not sure how I feel about this to be honest. Maybe loose those eyes and you'll have me more on board with this.

20 Yrs. after the fact and we now know what happened to Alpha 5: Put on some weight, merged with an alien, and apparently found the "joys" of clubbing with a design that looks like it's always wearing mesh! :lolol

Eeeeeh not feeling it honestly. I mean, if you lose the eyes and gut, and shorten the arms and lengthen the legs a bit, I could dig it. But right now it's just not great to look at.

Now give Alpha 5 with Flint Lockwood's voice! That will make COMEDY GOLD! LOL

Wasn't Alpha a robot?
You know, I was actually anticipating Alpha to be some sort of good-Glados wannabe because this movie is aiming to be completely unoriginal as possible.

...I now wish my assumption was true, because my god, this is horrid. From the eye stalks to...Everything else, I just don't like it.
I wish the design conveyed more that he's a robot, and not a fucked up looking alien. I wish his arms didn't reach to his knees.
...At least they didn't make him chicken legged?

Remember when robots actually looked like robots?

God damn this design is awful. Even as just a generic alien, it's incredibly uncreative.

This is the first design of this whole movie that I've not completely hated, and it's the only redesign that actually recognizably looks like the original character.

I love the paunch. I love the eye stalks. He reminds me of Tom, the robot Toonami host.

EDIT: He looks more like a robot from behind. Is that a spring coil neck?

I don't care if I'm being "whiny" or "missing the point" of what they're going for or "can't appreciate the design" like some people have said online today, this design is garbage. It's ugly, it's devoid of character, and I don't like it.

It absolutely misses the mark in every way possible. Like just about everything else design wise from this movie. The designs have been consistently weird and bad coming out of this movie, from the ground up this world has been built very poorly in my eyes. Alpha just looks too alien. And I get it, that's a DUMB thing to say. He's an alien robot. The problem is that he's totally devoid of any of the things that made him memorable, he's that kind of alien to me now.

Why even bother to base this movie on the original series at all? Why not just go with totally original characters and concepts instead of taking notable ones and running them through the hollywood blockbuster blender until they appear totally unrecognizable? I just don't get it anymore. If this is supposed to be a movie for "fans" then it should have at least taken what they've seen before into consideration. At this point it seems only the ranger suits have done that and that's still a pretty big stretch to me.

I hate to feel so disappointed & be so negative, but I just can't find anything to be excited about with this movie :(

I too find each new reveal to be pushing my needle toward "wait for basic cable". It is disappointing.

This. I'm okay with the Power Ranger suits and morphers being more alien-like because Zordon is an alien. However, Alpha is just a robot, not another alien. A more alien-looking robot? Sure. This Alpha however, is JUST an alien.

It looks like a decidedly more alien version of the original. It's actually really similar other than the stylistic changes. I like it.

Sadly because then it wouldn't have a lot of brand recognition. Yes it would have the name Power Rangers, but going in a new and different direction wouldn't grab as many onlookers. If they use the Zyu/MMPR suits, mecha, and characters than the average person can immediately know and probably connect to it and have an interest. It sucks because I would have preferred some new fresh take on Power Rangers in general, not this generic "We found otherworldly powers and are heroes now" plot. But alas, in terms of business, Hollywood, and marketing/sales we were always bound to get this generic, uninspired, ugly looking film.

I actually like it. Maybe a bit more "organic" looking than I expected, but after seeing the zords I was definitely prepared for worse.

Nailed it, on every point. I cannot fathom the thought behind this, or the appreciation for what is a really lazy, uninspired design. There's no character being conveyed, it's not a unique aesthetic, it doesn't look like Alpha, and it doesn't look especially appealing with how creepy and goblin-like it is.

What does this have going for it?

Too bad the movie couldn't just have faith in it's own characters and concepts.

I mean, they've changed so much, the inspiration from MMPR seems token at this point. People are going to be just as confused as to why everything's so different as if it were entirely original anyway.

I first saw this on Instagram and scrolled past it thinking it was an Ultraman villain .

The biggest reason is likely the nostalgia factor. Without being (arguably) tied to the original series, I don't know how well generic "Power Rangers" with a new team, villain, and theme would sell. I've said before that this movie's Achilles heel will be its middle of the road approach: afraid to leave behind the original series, yet also wanting to create something new.

That being said, I honestly feel like this Alpha more closely resembles his original design than anything else we've seen so far.

I think this movie is becoming what Jem and the Holograms was for Jem fans now. And we know how well that all turned out.
Loosely...LOOSELY based off the property its based on in some bland attempt to attract 'new' fans and hope to cash in on 'old' fans if possible with nostalgic names and stuff.

Yes, it's not the Power Rangers we know from our childhood outside of borrowed names and locations really, but Hollywood just ran WAY too much with the 'alien' theme for this. Just way too much.

The suits looking like a combo of Green lantern meets Iron Man, the zords with their weird looks (Mastodon is a Dung Beetle now it seems), and now we see Alpha and...yikes.
I don't even think I want to see Zordon or Goldar at this point because I think they're not going to look good.

If anything at this point, I'd guess Zordon will look like this...

I hate to say it, but this movie is screaming box office bomb all over. Doesn't help that it comes out in March, which isn't a big movie release month.
