Yet another vague glimpse at the Zords, with the exception of the yellow Zoid, er, Zord which is mostly visible. There is a clear shot of the cockpit, which looks (in my opinion) awful on it. I expect the cockpit bubbles will stick out like boils when they all merge.

Edit: I also just noticed that the Yellow Ranger in the cockpit is far larger than the trees in the foreground. They must be giant Rangers.

I want one. The best poster so far.

They look a lot better as CGI models which I guess is to be expected. Probably still not going to be completely sold on the designs/aesthetic but hopefully this means a fair portion of the awfulness can just be attributed to the toys.

They look nice as CG. Shame the toys still look like butt.
I'm still not a fan of the cockpits. They really should've kept them basically nonexistent like the original series, or even like the first movie.

I actually loved Zoids! I always watched New Century Zero on Toonami!

Man that scale is fucked. So the rangers are roughly... what, fifty feet tall?

Zoids are rugged, chunky, industrialized machines, though. Them having cockpits makes sense.

Apparently the super advanced aliens still rely on limited field of view and not, like, a head's up display or something.

Also, Zoid cockpits look cooler in most cases anyway.

Although, aside from the cockpit and requisite scale issues... it's not awful. I still think going for all these smooth "alien" designs was a mistake, although I'm biased towards loving chunky designs.

You would think they could of hid the cockpits a bit better I mean look at the Hawk, Lion, and Dolphin zords from Hurricanger. They had black visors showing where the cockpit would be.

The thing is, Zoids have both. A cockpit canopy and several head's up displays. I see no reason to assume that isn't the case here as well.

I'm actually not biased either way, but I think the reason I'd like more chunky, rugged designs is because it's something Hollywood hasn't really done aside from Pacific Rim's Jaegers. This smooth alien aesthetic is so typical.

The reason a lot of Zoids have cockpits is because they're basically that universes equivelant of fighter jets and tanks. It works with the aesthetic. In fact, some Zoids like the Liger Zero didn't have cockpit windows, but Gundam-style full view screens. Cockpits here just seem weird, because they're so advanced and alien, something as mundane and practical as clear windows sticks out.

I think this is a pretty neat looking poster.

Well, I gotta say the paint job helps lessen the distaste for it.
If the mastadon(despite not being anatomically accurate) and triceratops look decent as well in cgi I guess the toy is to blame.

I think you're forgetting the fact that Zoids doesn't just take place on an alternate Earth; it's a different planet entirely. Zoids ARE alien. Plus, you could apply that same exact logic to these Zords. They could ALSO very well be the equivalent of fighter jets and tanks from Zordon's planet.

Again, my whole initial justification is that BOTH is possible. Full view screens from the perspective of the Zord's cameras and sensors overlayed on top of actual windows to allow fist person monitoring as well. It's like how real world tanks have viewfinders and displays on the inside, but opening up the hatch on top and looking directly outside is also an option. Since when is practicality a bad thing?

Plus I think the notion that this canopy doesn't "match the aesthetic" is entirely subjective. I think it blends just fine with the rest of the visual cues of the design. The scaling? That's another problem, but until further notice I'm just going to assume it's an issue with the presentation of the poster, and not necessarily a discrepancy that will translate into the movie.

These designs look way better than the toy.

Not surprising. I doubt the toy will fly off the shelves if their on screen representation looked as bad as the figures.

Why are they hiding the Mastodon and Triceratops in the mist? If the extra legs are sooooo cool, why hide them?

I love the poster, I really do. But does anyone else see those Zords and think they just misspelled Zoids? Cause..

Been having mixed feelings for these. Like, the whole alien aesthetic looks so generic but i wouldve been ok with it if it wasnt for the mess it forms.

Not... really. Unless you're saying it looks like a reboot of that, in which case... I could see that. I'd still be disappointed, for exactly the same reasons, but I could buy it.

Nerdist ask the same question yeah 50 feet to 250 feet if those are douglas firs. yeah that scale is very stupid. Also while i love that they have been covering the movie news someone need to tell Chris Hardwick that his creation has become a buch of aged hipsters.

Well, at least they look so much better than in the toys. At least the Sabre-Tooth tiger and the Pterodactyl does...

Yeah.. I'm not seeing how it's impossible for there to be a window AND a heads up display.. Both cars and jets have them.. Why wouldn't a zord?

Whatever. Those aren't big Rangers. Those are very tiny trees. So as not to hurt the multiple feet.

Everybody knows that's what Angel Grove is famous for. Their tiny trees.

Tanks don't and there is a very good reason for it because it's a gigantic bulls eye for someone to shoot at.


That's why you have back up cameras in things like the eyes and sensors on the machine.

That's because jets need them.
If your camera goes out on something like these, no amount of skill will let you know where your T-rex's foot is in relation to the ground because you have no depth perception since you're sitting in a tiny bubble on it's forehead. It's unnecessary.

Once the camera goes out, just because you can see outside doesn't mean you'll be able to actually pilot the damn thing.

And you still have to gauge for the tiny arms.

You know when I saw the promo shots of the toys I was afraid we'd be getting more of the Bayformer cluster but these aren't bad
