Kamen Rider Ex-Aid Episode 12: "Christmas Special! Targeting The Silver Xmas"
Kamen Rider Genm's identity has been revealed, and he wields a Gashat more powerful than any other Rider. Can anyone stand up to his might?!
As always you can view this episode via live stream on Saturday by heading over to Taima TV. They play other miscellaneous programs up until the live broadcast starts. Live Streams of the Superhero Time block start at 6:30 PM Eastern Standard Time on Saturdays. |
Would they really kill Kiriya in a Christmas episode

Much like this one, that episode of Kabuto actually aired on Christmas (Eve) to boot.
Though it was also a late series episode about a side character who wasn't even in the show from the start and thus kind of a different scenario than this week. ... Kiriya will be fine! He has to be... |

HO HO HOLY SHIT, NOOOO!" |
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
I had hope until the end. :( They even already changed the next episode screen. All the sadness. Stream was a little laggy so I actually didn't get too much of the episode itself (think Poppi casually revealed she's a Bugster or something?), but...damn. |
Welp..it's official.

Hey Toei. Please stop hurting my fee fees
|
ehh,.. Roshuo said that Golden Fruit has the power to revive lifeform, right? And Kouta still has his Golden Fruit. There is hope. There is hope.
Kouta also visits Earth on daily basis now. He also knew Emu now thanks to the event of Dr.Pac Man. There is hope. Why is this week Poppi's room episode has such a cheerful thumbnail with Poppi smiling? Is Toei trying to mock us? |
It looks like they'll have to find a new Lazer someday.
|
What a gift for christmas Toei
Toei is so kind, what a gift.. |

R.I.P Kiriya Kujo.... You only had little screentime in the series but you brought the very much impact and dynamic that we needed. You'll live in your fans' heart and mine too. And now... Who also want Dan to get a satisfying death like a Crushed Cherry?
PS: Who think that Nico the hip hop girl will become another Rider. Heck, she might become Kiriya's successor. |

Bonus point if Brave freeze him beforehand, making him completely unable to do anything about it. |
RIP Kirya, Your last henshin kick was awesome ...
If only you not use that damn zombie gashat.. |
Kiriya's death could have been prevented...I'm gonna miss his henshin kicks. I need Emu to finish off Dan with a Bakusou Critical Finish! xD
|
I do wonder How bad the power creep Will be as DABros are both 20

Yeah Dangerous Zombie is definitely the best suit of the show far and I applaud the suit actor for making it work so well.
But also, dick move Dan, but I can't place all the blame on Dan. Kiriya you damn sucker! Oh and I also like how their beginning to phase out the Level 1 Suits, in a bit of a classier way though. The Level 1 suits were specifically meant to separate the Virus. If the Virus has grown to a point where Level 1 is no longer usable then it would make sense to skip past Level 1 more often. |
So yeah… this episode. First half children’s Christmas special, second half Game of Thrones. Jesus.
Okay, let’s start at the Christmas part. I think it was neat. That’s literally it; it’s a good Christmas stuff thingy. And it lowkey drops a very interesting point: Poppi is a Bugster? Huh? How? When? Why? You got some explaining to do show. And then the second half, damn. They continue the interesting plot with Emu’s operation, add something t it, and then kill off the best character of the show. I mean for one I’m happy because it’s such a strong moment and I think Kiriya’s deal would’ve lost steam very quickly, but man, I really liked him. Also I agree. Genm Level X is the best suit in the whole show so far, it’s awesome. Well, that’s a Christmas special if I ever saw one. I loved it. And I think now I can safely say that this show already achieved more for me in 12 episodes than Ghost during its entire runtime. |
Watching it again, I must say, Genm's a load of fresh air for the franchise. He mixes up lots of things from previous Riders and does it Well. He has Ouja's psychotic side, Ryoma's dedication and Necrom's initial threatening appearance. I personally can't wait to see how far little Genm goes. Mauve he'll become the end game villain and gain his mortality back with a future upgrade? I love how he's clearly not done yet as it means despite fighting Level 20 next week the bastard refuses to die
|
I've seen some mad mood whiplash in Kamen Rider before, but this takes the Christmas cake. Words cannot even express my reaction between the Christmas part and savagely murdering Kiriya part. At least I had all week to mentally prepare for that though. That t-shirt hurts though Toei, please stop that. I'm wondering what impact this first character death will have on the rest of the Riders going forward, I would love to see Emu maybe struggle with it going forward. I'll definitely miss Kiriya, although there's still a ton of interesting plot going on to keep me excited.
(Also, placing my bet now, the next Rider to go will be Genm. Preferably in an excessively satisfying way.) |

This week we all wear our jackets off our shoulders in Kiriyas memory
|
..............................COME ON TOEI!!!!!!!!! REALLY!!??
(I kinda want that shirt tho. Never forget) So yeah. Kiriya's officially dead. Not sure what else to say about the episode. I mean, I kinda thought Poppy was a Bugster and it's cool to get that confirmation, but that got brushed off so easily. Probably because it was kind of obvious if you thought about it. Christmas stuff was campy, but fun campy. Plot threads abound. Zombie Genm has some interesting powers. Is he immortal? His health bar kinda resembles the Game Over graphic. Henshin sequence was awesome though. Kinda wish I could put gifs as my phone background now. But my brain is still really caught up on Kiriya dying. Kind of numb angry at this point. Worst part is my GGCB Gashat, Sparrow, and Bugvisor (sans buckle) are showing up in two days. Friggin package getting delayed *grumble grumble timing grumble*... |
I'm wondering a lot more about the operation secret now. So now we know Emu and Kuroto had some sort of contact 16 years ago, which can of course only refer to the operation incident. And Kiriya's words at the end superficially don't mean too much, beyond the sentiment in them, but I wonder...him going "As long as you smile you'll still be you" is kind of interesting wording. It could just be Kiriya telling him to not lose heart and keep being the guy he's always been, but they have sort of been pushing the split personality thing, which will be exacerbated with Double Action next episode. And well, we know two things: Kuroto is a psychopath, and M is just a little unhinged. Could it be some sort of weird...thing that caused some of Kuroto's twisted personality to influence Emu? Like...probably not, but it's a thought.
Kuroto was only 14 when this happened too so I somewhat doubt he was masterminding things back then, but who really knows. Regardless. Perhaps there's some danger of the M personality overtaking Emu's, and that will be...bad, for reasons? Alternative plot twist: M is the real personality, Emu is the good side of Kuroto he now lacks because Emu stole it...somehow. Maybe. Again, probably not. Though tinking about it, smiling right before transforming is exactly how Emu signals that he's going M. But it probably doesn't mean anything. Anyway, I'm probably just overthinking this a lot for no reason, but whatever. |

And I know this is just speculation at this point but... what if it's not just Emu? What if the operation influences a person's personality as a side effect, and Emu is some kind of special case in that regard? It'd tie in to Kuroto and Taiga's characters, with Kuroto's madness and Taiga's obsession with the Gashats, though thinking about it I'm not sure how Hiiro and Kiriya fit into that... Ah well, it's just a theory... A GAME THEORY! Thank's for reading! |
Has no one made a "2016 took another life" joke yet? Shame on you all.
|
Well, Hiiro's also got his revenge obsession, although we'll see how that goes without Graphite. Kiriya had his almost compulsive lying and...
He always seemed to have some form of... I'm not sure guilty conscience is right, but he always seemed to take a very personal responsibility for things. I dunno, it's hard to distinguish between what's natural and what's an unnatural influence when you've primarily seen it with the influence. |

ONORE DIEND!!!! |
Apparently Kiriya was pretty popular in Japan, too, which got Toei Twitter in some oyu earlier today:
"Episode 12 of Kamen Rider Ex-Aid saw the sudden and tragic death of a fan favorite character, Kujo Kiriya, who transforms into Kamen Rider Lazer. In response to the episode, Toei tweeted out a now deleted hashtag message via their Toei News account. The message read “なんできりやすぐ死んでしまうん” or “Why does Kiriya die so soon”, which was a quote from the anime movie Grave of the Fireflies” (Originally “なんで蛍すぐ死んでしまうん” or “Why do fireflies die so soon”) replacing “fireflies” with “Kiriya”." Contextually, this was seen to be in poor taste and the tweet became a top trender before Toei deleted it. Now the important part: "The production team are also very much aware of the love for the character and passed along a message reading: “To those who loved the character, from the bottom of our hearts, thank you very much.” Shortly after the episode aired, the Toei Fanclub app sent out notifications to viewers that orders are open for the Kamen Rider Lazer memorial T-shirt."* NANI KA?!?! http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/640...921/YLbKuB.jpg http://www.toei.co.jp/release/mobile/1208810_973.html |
I'd get it if it were an easy purchase. I wonder how many hoops you have to go through to order one from overseas...
|
So who else feels incredibly sorry for all the poor kids who got Lazer toys for Christmas?
|
I am saddened from this episode. This was both a great, fun episode and a sad episode. I will miss Lazer a lot. Though this showed how powerful Genm is though. I can't wait to see how this goes.

I'm wondering if this means that the figuart will come with swappable lifeless, dead eyes.
That's actually pretty morbid when you think about it lol |
