Celebrating 5 Years - TokuNation.com
Today (January 4th) is our 5th Anniversary. I will post some more, deeper thoughts and such later in the day. But thank you - all of you - for being here for whatever reason brought you here - whether it was to talk to other toku fans, check out galleries, talk about news, enter to win prizes ... whatever it may be! We're only here because of you. THANK YOU. I personally want you to know how much I appreciate you giving this nerd a creative outlet like you have.
TokuNation.com is a personal nerdy life-achievement and I cannot thank all of you - posters, viewers, fans, friends, staff - for all you've done. Thank you thank you thank you. Just wait till you see what we have in store for you this year :) |
|
...5 years already? Geez. Time flew like a rocket.
|
If I may suggest can we get the site color to be magenta, white, black and green when we hit year 10 because Onore Dikeido? :lolol
Congratulations to the folks that run this site. I truly thank you guys for operating this site. |
Happy birthday Tokunation!!!
I've made my return to forums thanks to Tokunation. I was part of other boards in the past but I barely interacted with people. Just recently (July '16) I decided to be more involved in the toku fandom so I registered on twitter but before that I've always visited the website for news and pictures, because lets be honest, only here you will find the best galleries, specially when it comes to events like cons and similar. Yes I originally registered for the toku toy box but I think I came here to stay to be really honest. |
I actually came here only recently because HJU became nearly completely dead. Was surprised to see that it was so active here.
|
Huh, thought this was older than 5 years. Congrats regardless!
|
That's awesome! I can't believe I've been here for 3 years so far
|
Congratulations, I really hope this community can stay active and grow over the next 5 years and beyond.
|
Happy Birthday Tokunation! I showed up here a few years back just looking for some info on this newly-airing Go-busters show, as a newbie, and here we are, years later! I'd post the usual video, but Gosei beat me to it :p
|
Happy Birthday TokuNation! You're out of your diapers and starting kindergarten this year! Your Mother and I are so proud of you!
|
Happy Birthday and congratulations on your 5 years. If it wasn't for this community, basically just reading the forums and articles, I wouldn't know about anything. I've grown to appreciate a lot about this fandom while also seeing the ugly side. Thanks for not being a part of that ugly side. Here's to many more years.
|
Happy 5th Anniversary, Toku Nation. :)
Here's hoping for more news, galleries, reviews, info and fun Toku-related topics in the future. |
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY GUYS.
I'm so grateful for this forum, it's was the port in the storm so many years ago when I was looking for a toku forum to join after I found myself not enjoying myself at other places. It's got the articles, the toy photos, the actual discussions, it's such a great place. With that said, MUCHO thanks to everyone for their hard work over the past five years. You da best! |
Ah, five long years.
If I've said it once I've said it a thousand times since this began... Who are you again? :P |
Congrats on 5 big ones, you crazy Toku dame, you!
|
Happy birthday, TN, here is to another five years
|
I'd like to take a brief moment to reflect on my time here as well.
A little over 5 years ago, I heard the rumblings that Kickback was looking into making a site like this. He was slowly looking for volunteers in TFW2005's then current Power Rangers General Discussion thread. I thought I had missed my chance at being part of things but I guess I snuck in just at the end, and PM'd him with what little knowledge I had to offer at the time. I told him I had general knowledge of Power Rangers but especially Kamen Rider from the last decade, and could easily inform myself better as time went on. I remember it like it was yesterday. And just like that he said I was in. In the beginning we had to choose our staff names, and I just vividly recall thinking, yeah of course, it's Den-O. What better name then that of my favorite rider. I remember when I started out here as a normal moderator. Just doing the usual stuff, checking for spam, breaking up arguments. Then Kickback started putting together a Photo & Content staff. I knew I didn't have the skills for it, not yet. But I wanted to do my best. So I took on that responsibility. Somewhere along the way I was tracking down leads for news, posting things every couple of days in the News & Rumors forum too. Then I became an official Newsie. At some point, while he was probably drunk with power, Kickback was even foolish enough to make me a Super Mod. And then using the poorest of judgment he made me a site Administrator as well. Little did he know I would secretly usurp his power and forever be known as the Secret Owner of TokuNation. The last 5 years have flown by really. I remember when this place began, my wife (at the time girlfriend) and I were living in a tiny 2 bedroom apartment with a new dog and new jobs. 5 Years later, I own my own home and have a beautiful 2 year old girl running around my house. I've kind of grown up with this site & it's community. My life has been irrevocably shaped by my interactions with the staff and users here. I even have the two best friends of my life life to show for it with Kickback & Sentai Tamashii. I owe TokuNation everything. I love this place, and no matter what the future holds I will always be a part of it. |
Jeez, has it really been five years? Man, time flies.
I feel like I should celebrate by slagging off Goseiger like I used to do in every third post back when the site launched. :lol In any case, here's to many more! |
5 years and I've been been a member of staff for 3 of those years.
I remember Kickback approached me on TFW asking me to be part of staff, which I agreed to. Even after I had registered it took him almost a month before he finally gave me the credentials needed:lol Three years, and in that time I've published close to 600 articles for the site... |
"Credit: You"
Daww, I see what you did there. :p My attendance record when it comes to posting around the forums has been pretty flaky these past 5 years, but I never stopped visiting the site. Besides, I'm usually not the forum type anyway, which probably says a great deal about this place's atmosphere. Like, I'm actually one of the people who came here from TFW (1/5/12 'fo life!), but that site is big and scary enough to me that I'm very much content to lurk in the shadows. Also I'm kind of a handful to deal with between my pronounced love of Ghost, Wizard, and the last 5 years of Sentai (and probably a million other things you hate), so I'm continually amazed anyone puts up with me at all. I swear, I was way easier to get along with back when Fourze was airing. :lol Anyway, here's to five more. |
Everyone's sharing their stories, so here's mine :p
Back in 2011 I was a regular poster over on TFW, but the double whammy of Gokaiger and Power Rangers Samurai (because back then Saban getting the franchise back was a pretty exciting prospect) really revived my interest in Super Sentai and (as a result) tokusatsu as a whole. I quickly became a regular in the Power Rangers toy thread and it wasn’t long before Kickback offered me the opportunity to join the staff of a new project he had in the pipeline. This was pretty exciting for me not just because of the thought of Tokunation, but also because while I enjoyed TFW I always felt like I was “outside” the community somewhat. Tokunation has really changed that for me and I’ve made a lot of great friends here, even though most of you are across the pond <3 So yeah, I’ve been here since the very beginning and it’s been a hell of ride going from a general newsie and Power Rangers forum mod to eventual super mod. Time zones, not being a student anymore and just generally not having the same free time I used to means I don’t contribute as much as I’d like to now, but this site means the world to me and I’ll be part of it until the very end. So much has happened in those five years – the death of Mega Upload and everyone panicking about what that meant for fansubs, the bizarre disappearance of Yokatta and everyone scrambling to find a new middleman service, the great spambot attack of 2013, that time Sentai and DaiRiderRX/Guard Convoy were fellow mods, the Akibaranger subforum, but most importantly those two times I was almost on Talkin’ Toku but then technical problems ensured it never happened :lol. It’s been a really fun ride and I have so many memories. Fun fact: I actually got the first site infraction because Kickback tested the function on my account :p Happy birthday Tokunation and thank you Kickback for making me a part of it from the very beginning. Here’s to many more years as we continue to grow better and better! |
Man it does not feel like 5 years have passed since I joined. And joined right around the time the site first went online.
|
This forum had been really great, although I am relatively new. The atmosphere is good and there's a lot of really helpful information. Here's to five more years and beyond!
|
Oh man. I remember the times of discussing Kamen Rider Decade over at TFW (Yeah) and wishing there was a whole board for this kind of thing. I figured there was, but it would basically be like walking to a group of strangers and acting like we're best friends should I have done so, so I never did.
At the announcement of TokuNation, I joined as soon as possible. It was great and everything I wanted. Fun fact: I almost picked the name "Ryuga," until last second where I thought "But people won't recognize me." I love hanging around this place, as evidenced by the next highest poster having 5000 less posts than me :lol Even when a year goes by and I don't watch any Toku (Ninnin/Drive/Dino Charge for example), I still wanna swing by and have fun with others. Here's to hoping I stop getting infractions~ |
Happy birthday you bastards. I love each and every one of you. Let's keep the Toku love spreading like VD and Lindsay Lohan.
|
If it wasn't for this site, I would have never gotten into Kamen Rider, or revitalized my interest in Power Rangers. I'm not nearly the Toku-nut I was a few years ago, but I'm still glad I stuck around, and thankful for this site.
Here's to another five, and more. |
I discover TN when I was starting to get into Kamen Rider in late 2012. I mostly lurk the forums, but decided to join late 2013. I love Japanese special effect movies and TV shows, but never watch much of Kamen Rider until 2012 when I saw W. I found out about TN when I use to post on Henshin Justice around late 2012.
Happy 5th Anniversary to the website. Glad that the site is still around. |
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TOKUNATION! Let's go get drunk!
But in all seriousness, congrats on keeping this train going for 5 years. |
Happy Birthday to Tokunation -- I've been here since the first week and it still remains my favorite tokusatsu discussion forum! Here's to 5 more, and more beyond that!
|
I know I said thank you and congratulations already to the staff on an earlier post.
So this time I wanna say thank you to all the forum members as well. I seriously hope we hit Year 10 where we can all shout ONORE DIKEIDOOOOOOOOO :lolol |
Congrats to Chris, the team and all of you members on 5 years strong!

Yes Sir, hope all is well! I'm like that horrible Uncle everyone hates, but it's a special occasion, so you tolerate his presence for a bit. :D On that note, see you guys again in 2022 for the 10 year! |
Congrats on 5 years! This place has such a great staff and community; here's to ten years and beyond! :D
|
I joined here around the time Kamen Rider Wizard was starting (late 2012). I was a freshman in high school, and I had found footage of Super Hero Taisen online. Seeing all of the Power Rangers with all of these other heroes was weird, but learning about it made sense.
I have fond memories of watching Gaim and posting in that insanely long discussion thread speculating about the plot. I'm not sure if there's one for Ex-aid, but man, those times were fun. I'm only interested in the Rider stuff personally, and I didn't watch a current Rider show after Gaim ended until Ex-aid. So pretty much toku was mostly gone for me. Despite my toku lapse, I still frequent the site to see how everyone is doing (plus to read the Gundam forum). I like to think the community here is growing, but I'm not 100% sure since I don't have site analytics. Here's to another 5 years. Maybe we could put Decade on the banner once we hit 10. |
Congrats! This is one helluva site, so happy to have found and joined!
|
5 years, wow!! I've only been here for 2. Let's hope it goes for another!!
|
I might not talk much myself but this is a site I like to come to everyday and see what news there is and people's reactions to said news.
Without this site I doubt my love for all things Japanese men in tights would not have grown. Here's to another good year |
Hm, I don't know if I can exactly go into the details of my migration here, as it may be a bit much given the role one of the sister sites plays. But I will give what I can and perhaps even still a bit too much detail as I often do.
Over the years I've been a collector probably since I was...well, honestly 2. I still have one of if not the first proper figure I've ever got: A 1994 Rapid Attack Batman.(The other was Series 1 Jurassic Park Alan Grant, which I no longer have, but did replace.) so I've taken good care of my stuff. But my collection habits always change, usually in tandem with what I'm interested in at the time. I never really lose my enjoyment of something, just the main priorities change, with Toku eventually becoming my current passion. A lot of that can be attributed to several factors, from the various toy reviews I watched on youtube and my best friend, Tali. (Also whatever the hell was going on with DC) So...probably around 2013 is when I began watching Sentai and Kamen Rider. I eventually made my way here, again, thanks to Tali...and some other reasons, but mostly Tali. But I've enjoyed my time here quite well, possibly more than anywhere else. I've met so many new friends and nice people, and my interest in the main subject helped my best friend drag me along to my first convention. He has a habit of placing me in interesting places it seems. Last year I began interacting more with a user I only occasionally ever saw in quick bursts, only for them to become more active and that to develop into a relationship. This certainly is the best forum I've even taken a part in, and I'm grateful in its existence. |
