Makes sense since PG-13 is the biggest money maker and it's a rating that people can take seriously.

Not to mention people tend to avoid PG live action movies because they think it will be a stupid kids movie. I remember when I used to work at a local movie theater in 2010 and I saw people that didn't want to see Tron: Legacy because it was PG. They said stuff like "Rated PG? Why not PG-13?!", "It looks like a stupid kids movie" and "If it's PG, let's watch something else".

Okay. I didn't expect anything different.

PG is the new G, PG-13 is the new PG, R is both the new PG-13 and still the old R for when it feels like it.

Nowadays, G is saved for Dora the Explorer and other Kindergarten entertainment, PG is considered too kiddy and no moviegoer would enter because they're basically anticipating a movie length Teen Titans Go, and R is too hard, and most people expect R films to either be hardcore porn or Cannibal Holocaust.

This is why the Dutch age rating is good, it's AL,6,9,12 or 16

Seems fair. Though being power rangers I don't see any cursing or such. Which should be nice. I just hope it's good. Though if they do use their one f-bomb please let it be alpha-5. Lol.

It being PG-13 means nothing for me since I am going to watch this anyway. Ratings usually mean jack shit now unless its for certain series like Deadpool.

The Avoid the Dreaded G Rating is a real thing. The G rating is no longer really a thing expect for The Peanuts Movie from over a year ago. Even Cartoons are now TV PG. I remember when TV PG was for older shows like The Simpsons, King of the Hill and Space Ghost: Coast to Coast. Even toy driven anime like Monter Hunter Stories is rated TV14 on Funimation's website since they probably thought that no one would want to watch a TV-Y7 subbed anime.

What is up with dreaded G Rating? Most of Pixar films were G-RATED well except The Incredible, Up, Brave, Inside Out, The Good Dinosaur and even Finding Dory which all of them were PG Rated

But notice how these things are. Inside Out and Finding Dory had mild slapstick at best, and their adult themes were merely about growing up, yet they somehow elicited a PG rating.

The G rating is being seen more and more as a negative thing to get, and nowadays studios aim for PG for their children's/family flicks, and PG-13 for their action flicks.

Damn I feel old I remember when PG and PG-13 were the "bad" ratings for kids films and I'm only 25.:lol

And really, all they do is insert the bare minimum of "questionable content" in order to net that PG rating.

And then you have South Park that purposefully put 399 instances of "Fuck" into BLU because 400 would net them an NC-17 rating because yeah, that ONE extra "Fuck" would have been WAY to much!

So you expect Toy Story 4 to get a PG Rating despite the first 3 Toy Story film were G Rating

I remember reading elsewhere that writers tend to add in at least one sneaky cuss word so that a certain rating can be avoided. I can’t remember what one, though.

I think “PG” is an abbreviation of “Parental Guide.”

Because people think if it's G it's for babies.

I think having Power Rangers be PG-13 was a smart idea. The movie would have done worst if it was PG. PG works for animated movie, not so much on big budget live action movies.

It's because the studios now realize that today's parents are so self-absorbed, they won't take their kid to see a movie if it doesn't entertain them.

Was it expected to be anything less? PG13 is pretty much the standard for anything these days.

And our world's much sadder for it. It could have a R for all I care, I'll just wait until it drops on DVD/Blu-Ray like Ghostbusters.

That's good news since it means it won't be too dark and gritty but it also means it won't be your average Saturday morning Power Rangers for kids.

It could also end up being a sludge that had all creativity and life sucked out of it because it wants to be another "Avengers but not" film.
The limitations that a PG rating would merit usually means a more creative approach since they can't be as visceral or violent, while R means they don't have to hold back.
PG-13 is probably the black hole of ratings since it really means nothing anymore beyond "Another action film."

Yeah, while I rarely subscribe to the theory that a rating is indicative of a film's quality, if I absolutely had to, a PG-13 would be the worst rating out there for those exact reasons.

But I don't really think a rating makes or breaks, or reflects anything other than the technical level of violence, etc.

Except the Avengers movies are fun and colorful and all of the trailers look fun and colorful. The PR trailer was joyless and colorless. I'd say it's trying to be Justice League.

Hence the "But not" part. It's a studio going "How do we be The Avengers without being the Avengers?"
DC's answer was to avoid all humor.

I didn't even think this was "Avengers but not." The first trailer looks more like "every single one of those gray dreary tween dystopian 'rebel against the system and be an INDIVIDUAL!' based-on-a-crappy-young-adult-book movies all starting the same blank faced 15-year-old girl as a main character because female empowerment but with Power Rangers crudely stapled onto it." Well that and Chronicle.

Anyway, I hate anything based on young adult literature including young adult literature itself.

If this movie is rated PG-13, then they better add blood and gore in it.

Blood and gore is not going to happen. PG-13 movies for the last 10 years can push the limit compare to 80's and 90's movies, but they still have limits.

Todays PG-13 is nothing like the 80's or early 90's.

Maybe not for all of them, but I do feel like some old R rated movies would be PG-13 now like Air Force One, The Matrix, Judge Dredd 1995 (I always forget that this movie is R), Escape from New York and The Fog. The 4th Terminator movie was reported to have more gun violence than T2. I even remember the last Beowulf movie that they did was PG-13 and it had a lot of blood.

Um, you do realize that the Transformers movies have blood and gore. Those were PG-13.

It has Robot gore but that probably doesn't count.
