Otherwise, I don't think it's really all that deserving of the other nominations. Especially the music. The new music was phenominal, but the use of the old music without remastering or cleaning it up in any way was not only a clash of tones, but just sounded awful. I also didn't find any of the acting that great, especially the clunky Engrish.

Hiroki Hasegawa was great in his role, though Satomi Ishira IMO doesn't deserve the award. For the music, they wanted to create a retro feel for the movie and that why they used the same tracks for 60s classic.

It is worthy of such acclaim.
They crushed it.
Even if they don't win all of these nominations I applaud their efforts though honestly I wish they can win as many as they can.

Great? Nah. Good? Sure.

I see this used a lot as an excuse for the poor music quality, but if they really wanted that feel they wouldn't a) use the actual, aged track recordings, and b) wouldn't have included two incredibly not-retro-but-still-glorious pieces that feeel at total odds with the rest of the soundtrack. They should've re-recorded the pieces to avoid the audio degredation and made the whole soundtrack retro-sounding, or more perferably make more music like You Will Know and Persecution of the Masses.

Awards shouldn't be won for good intentions. They tried to have their cake and eat it, and it took me out of the movie.

I loved the music, but come on, they did the music as cheap as possible. I don't mean just using old Godzilla tunes, I mean even using the tracks from Evangelion and a few of the composers other anime works.

Old music was cleaned up, but that's how music recorded in mono sounds. Acting was also perfectly fine, if not the best I've seen in Godzilla film. And I'm sure American actors speaking Japanese sounds just as bad to them.

Yes, but the girl was supposed to be an American born citizen, yet, the one director dude spoke better English than her. She could have just been an American actress and had a translator with her to make it more believable.

Even if I had seen the film yet I can't really comment on whether its deserving of the nominations, mainly because I have absolutely no basis of comparison with the other nominees apart from Your Name.

Even if it has terrible acting and music, it could still be a whole lot better than all the other films nominated.

Would recommend seeing it, its IMO the best Godzilla film since the original.

I'll get around to it eventually. It's not that I don't want to see it, it's that it never came out in cinemas here and I don't want to settle for a camrip.

There is hd version going around that's missing about 20 min of footage, all Godzilla scenes are there but some human scenes are missing.

Shin was great, but it probably wouldn't break my top 10 list, at least until I see it a few more times.
