Zyuohger Episode 48- "Earth Is Our Home!" Series Finale Discussion
The Zyuohgers make their final stand! Can they stop the Dethgaliens for good?!
As always you can view this episode via live stream on Saturday by heading over to Taima TV. They play other miscellaneous programs up until the live broadcast starts. Live Streams of the Superhero Time block start at 6:30 PM Eastern Standard Time on Saturdays. |
Oh man, what a solid finale. The actual big climactic fight was cool and everything, if a little undercut by the ad breaks (the theme song just stops), but all the wrap-up stuff REALLY shined here. I think I'll try some bullet points about the episode before saying some stuff about the series as a whole, so:
- Man, Naria just can't catch a break - Given how much the series has banged on about how everything is connected, I actually quite like how the team wins the fight because the Earth itself basically wills it to happen. Don't mess with this planet indeed. I guess it's a little deus ex machina, but it's all good. - Love seeing everyone chill out on Wild Tousai Dodeka King's (I think I got the name right?) shoulder and just take in the view. There's just kind of a cool novelty to seeing stuff like that. - I love how Leo shoves everybody into that group hug. Zyuohger was always great about letting the characters show personality in subtle ways like that, and this is no exception. - So, um, this is the big one. I guess the Rangers going back in time to defeat Sledge prevented the extinction of the dinosaurs from ever happening. WHAT!!!? That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard! What about the canon!? Is Ninja Steel gonna have dinosaurs!? Way to screw up decades of continuity, Saban. Nice going. - I guess that guy who fell off that cliff in Zyuland really DID just die, then? Dang, the one time I took note of something for later in the whole show and it's the one thing that didn't come back up again. - I'm going to miss that ending theme. I've really grown to like it the past couple months. They even named the episode after a line from it, so you know it's awesome. I think that about covers it, but then I always think that with Ex-Aid every week and I always end up forgetting something. I like this show a lot. I was mostly just mildly enjoying it for a lot of its run but now that it's gone, I'm really gonna miss it. I enjoyed these characters, I enjoyed their world, and I enjoyed even the most bland of their weekly adventures. The team especially, for how much I've complained (if you can call it that) that Yamato is the center of the world, had likable personalities and great chemistry that really made you feel like these guys were indeed "a pack of champions". I'm pretty bummed I'm not going to get to see them anymore for a while. Like, can Yamato just be in Kyuranger? I really like Yamato. This Lucky guy has some big shoes to fill. So yeah, I give Zyuohger a very high ちょうかっこイーグル/10. Just a dang good show all around. |
I really enjoyed it! While the fighting was a little lacking (Mostly to blame on the Genis suit being obvious unwieldy to work in), it was still really great to watch. The reveal on what Genis really is was pretty neat, and man...Poor Naria...Is what I would say if I really cared. Metal Alice she was not.
Seeing Yamato using all 3 powers was pretty neat, and the back and forth was alright~ The shot of the Zyuohgers on Wild Tousai Dodeka King was pretty nice, and the overall ending to the fighting was solid, even if Genis had to do it in the borderline immobile default form. Anyway, a couple quick notes from the first half of the episode: I didn't think the reason why Misao specifically was chosen would circle back. Misao may understand Genis, but it certainly doesn't mean they're similar I felt the Earth returning everyone's powers was a bit deus ex machina-y. I'm not really harping on it, since it was basically the Earth giving back to it's protectors. I also liked the Earth denying Genis strength. I was half anticipating Genis to basically shotgun a fistful of the Continues. I'm still kinda curious over what would've happened :lol Anyway, the second half of this episode was great. I actually didn't anticipate the worlds fusing again. Just thought it would be a permanently open portal. Zyuohger is gonna be pretty hard to fit into Gokaiger's shared continuity methods :p It was great to see the Zyuohgers back with their families (Even though it was painfully obvious that they only had 1 lion/shark/elephant/tiger mask). Bard and Yamato's father holding a light hearted discussion was also nice. Speaking of, I found it a little weird Yamato and his father didn't interact, despite the last 5 or so episodes featuring subplots about them coming together. Oh well. I loved the ending. Seeing everyone happily dancing was great! It brought such a smile across my face! The episode wasn't perfect, but it was certainly satisfying. I really love the Zyuohgers, and I was one of the more negative onlookers when it was first announced. I'mma miss them all. It was cute watching Shishi Red keeping Yamato from flying away in the hand off, though~ Let's hope Kyuranger has enough spirit and character! |
That Zyuohger finale was horrible. It was just one giant rushed mess of plot conveniences after another without any actual consequences or payoff that felt natural. God that sucked!
Also, what was the point of having Naria come back just to be killed by Genis? That was a waste of time this episode didn't have. |
The fight scene was a bit rushed but the episode was great overall. I did not expect them to combine the Earth and Zyuland. That was a surprise. Seeing the human interact with Zyumen was interesting. I loved how Misao and Larri work together and when Misao thinks of the three Zyumen that he got his powers from. The dance at the end was great since they had all ten animals. I say this for all shows, but I will really miss Zyuohger. One week until Kyuranger!

Wait so, the other five Zyuohgers were just sitting right there while the little pig girl was crying, and they just waited until Yamato came around. What the hell, Zyuohgers???
Anyway, more seriously, this was a pretty good finale. I feel like it kinda suffered from having the contractually obligated mecha fight, because it felt mostly superfluous, but as a whole, not bad. I kinda feel like the Genis=Moeba connection could have made a bigger impact though. Like maybe if we just...knew more about them, and why being them is so bad? Like, they're footsoldiers, so I guess they're weak and dumb or whatever, but as a big revelation it just doesn't feel that big. I dunno. |

In the long run, the series was entertaining, but it's not something I'm going to care if I ever watch again. There really weren't any truly outstanding episodes, but there were fun ones. The ranger cast is really what made this show enjoyable, but I'm glad to see this show done and have high hopes for Kyuuranger. |
I think the revelation about Genis should've come a little sooner. I think if the Azald/Yamato's father episodes happened at the early 40's so that around 43-48 could be dedicated completely to Genis, it would've flowed a lot faster.
As a whole, though, I really enjoyed the series. The villains were a misstep, but they didn't disappoint me as much as most of Gingaman's villains. |
First half of the episode was really lame, mostly because they already had their best fight of the show against Azald shortly before so fighting Genis was kinda meh. Didn't feel like the last boss. Have that combined with the forced mecha fight and you have a boring formula I hate about Sentai.
The revelation about what Genis really is was wasted too. I mean why should I care now? It’s not changing anything. If they used this "weakness" of Genis for character interactions earlier maybe it could’ve worked, like they could’ve had Bunglay found out and used it to try and blackmail Genis or something. I mean giving Misao another bit of development was neat, but he had so much already. And I don’t feel like this is needed or better than explaining it with randomness. Second half was much better though, mostly because the merging of the worlds was really cool and surprised me. It's the ending I needed without even knowing that I wanted it. I love it when shows end with something big instead of playing it safe. So Zyuohger as a show was the first modern Sentai that I generally liked and thus I watched it from start to finish, and enjoyed it a lot. It's easily the best out of the last 4 shows for me. It broke with some tropes while keeping others alive, and really it only worked so well because they kept doing the mediocre stuff right. The show had some great moments and characters without really falling behind do to filler or boring plots. On the flipside I never really looked forward to anything or was hyped for some event, I watched, it enjoyed it but I was never feeling like I couldn’t wait another week to see what happens next. I'm still sad that the show is gone though because I did have fun watching it every week. And I'm rather afraid that Kyuranger won't spark the same feelings for me. Mostly because the Red is already looking like the stupid perfect asshole Sentai loves to put in charge for whatever reason and while the suits are cool I don't feel the cast. I like Green and strangely enough Black with the weird mechanical bull costume but that's about it. Blue looks awful and Pink is an absolute joke. Which hurts double because she's one of two female characters, so we only have one really. I will give Kyuranger the benefit of a doubt, but I think Zyuohger might’ve just hit a weird spot for me that can’t be reproduced. But hey, Sentai is slowly but surely falling behind while Rider keeps selling, so maybe they realized they need to change certain things and Kyuranger does look like a departure from certain tropes. I guess I will find out if I like it or not very soon. Anyways, goodbye Zyuohger, I really liked you. |
The finale for Genis felt a little rushed right at the end, or perhaps it was just predictable.
Naria....oy. I thought she got trashed last episode, but just to twist that little knife more they had to make the betrayal piece as well. I don't know if it was necessary, but since Genis' suit was so bulky, all he can really do is flail his arms around. I'm sure there are other series, but I can't remember the last time they all got to keep their powers, and have the happy ending. That's gonna lead in for a lot of crossovers in the future without having to fudge the getting their powers back troupe. For a series that really oversimplified some elements of the Sentai, and also made a lot of predictable steps, it's not the worst they could have done. Decent character development, and aside from some bland acting on the part of Watanabe (Tusk), even the enemies were not boring. Also, a final power up suit for Yamato? That was surprising. So as we say goodbye to Dobutsu Sentai Minecraft all I can say is that I eagerly await the new series with lots of excitement. |

Yeah, the fight felt really rushed as they tried to tie up as many loose ends about Genis as they could. not to mention the constant fight-beaten-powerup/motivation-fight-etc. But it still felt pretty energized, and I'm not exactly disappointed in how it ended.
Zyuland and Earth fusing back together was a twist I did not see coming, though, and it did feel kind of heartwarming seeing everyone reconnect with their families (why did they have to hold on that shot of Sela and her sister hugging through a green screen effect though!? Like seriously, GAH!). Plus seeing zyumen and humans interacting was kind of fun. Overall, while not perfect, it was a fitting end to a pretty intense series. To me, it had the right blend of character interactions and hot-blooded action that makes me kind of miss it, yet at the same time want to see where Super Sentai will be going with Kyuranger. |
I'm so sad this one is over. I felt that it was a huge improvement over Ninninger. All of the characters were great, and the story was solid all around. The stuff with Yamato and his dad was very interesting despite it being thrown in at the last minute. The series as a whole was great. It was always something I looked forward to watching every week despite some of its issues. It was a consistently good show from start to finish and I cannot wait to see them again in the team up movie with Kyuranger.

I liked it!
Was it completely conventional, familiar, cliched, and predictable? As with everything Zyuohger, the answer is yes. But as usual, the show's mix of sincerity, strong casting, and confident execution overshadowed all of that. Final Series Assessment: Zyuohger was a super solid show that broke zero boundaries. It luxuriated in cliche, but it did so with an exuberance that made every episode a joy to watch. I'd compare Zyuohger to a super premium vanilla ice cream. It has no interesting flavors or exciting crunchy bits, but it's made with the highest quality ingredients around. So even though it's super basic, it's still delicious, and it especially rewards vanilla ice cream connoisseurs. The show barely squeaks into my Top 10 Sentai list, falling at #9 -- one spot ahead of Ohranger, and just behind ToQger. |
If I were to put Zyuoh in my rankings, it would probably be round 18.
|
I'd rank it around 6th, to be quite honest.
I don't know what kind of jaw dropping Super Sentai you guys have seen, but so many Sentai I've seen has either been painfully bland or just bad. Zyuohger did the one thing that a lot of shows have had a hard time doing: Remain entertaining. It didn't bring anything new to the table that we haven't seen before, but what it did bring was well constructed and the flaws were easily overlooked because the rest of the presentation was so well done. |
I would rank it at 5 it had a lot of plot and the final was perfect except for the mecha battle which was rush.
Overall this was a perfect Sentai for a 40th a very good leader Yamato was a serious Red that made this Sentai very enjoyable. The final battle against Genis was really good and show what Genis was made out of. Ginis being nothing more than an evolved mass of Meba is something pretty different. Him hating the fact of his own existence puts a nice little spin on it. |
I have seen very little Sentai and with this being the first that I actually got to see from start to finish I have to say its alright. As some have said it doesn't really do anything amazing or at least if it does it is very little and forgotten. Plus the villain plots were badly paced. Still I do not regret it and I am sad to see it go. Now lets hope we can all be sad at this time next year for when Kyuranger ends.

For the record, I think there's some subtle but significant differences to how Zyuohger and Ghost approached the whole connections thing. Although given how Drive picked up a strong undercurrent of "family" during its back half, while Ninninger was airing, I find it strange that this is twice in a row Sentai and Rider have had matching themes. It's probably just a coincidence but, man, what a big coincidence. |

I have no idea how you could place Zyuoh beneath Magiranger.
...Granted, I gave up 15 episodes into that series, so maybe it gets good. *Shrugs* |

Good riddance to bad rubbish.
Now we can forget this ever existed and look ahead to KyuRanger! Obviously I would rank this dead last in my list of Sentai. |

I don’t get why you’re so butthurt about the mere existence of this show. Oh, now I remember, you don’t like the designs. What tragedy. Quote:

This Finale was very underwhelming....First off, Genis's big secret is actually something pretty interesting that honestly really should've been alluded to a couple Episodes earlier in the Series. Not only does it make LOADS of sense (Naria always refers to the coins as "Genis's CELLS," we never knew that was to be taken literally) We could've used this for some much needed characterization for our main antagonist. I've said this time & time again, Zyuohger's biggest weakness has been its villains, and seeing this desperate ploy by the writers to try & make him interesting at the last moment just proves it.
Misao's small moment of comparison to Genis was SO UNNECESSARILY dragged out. Again, if they did this earlier, this wouldn't be a problem. But they decided to pull this in the middle of the FINAL FIGHT...? Genis just stood there & let them talk this all through?! 😑 The whole thing with the Earth "granting them power" to repair their Champion Symbols? DEUS EX MACHINA. Naria's comeback just to get killed was SO UNNECESSARY...Like someone else said earlier, it's not like we saw Genis care for her before, why should we care now??? Zyuman World fusing with the Human World.....? I won't say that was bad, but it's...well, WEIRD. I mean, I'll at least say this, it's consistent with the theme of everything being connected.... Overall, Zyuohger was an OK Series. I've said this consistently about this show, and looks lIke they never reached the all-out GOOD mark. The characters are decent, the story is OK, and unfortunately the villains are the biggest thing holding it down. Go-Busters still holds #1 for Best Sentai Post-Gokaiger. I never watched Kyoryuger, and I ragequit on Ninninger, so....Well, I'm iffy on whether or not this is better than Toqger, cuz while Toqger had weak characters, it had good villains, and a pretty interesting story (too bad it was snuffed out with boring fillers), not to mention it did something groundbreaking with its Sentai team. |

Honestly, the first 5 minutes should have been the battle, the next 10 minutes should have had the Zyumans talking to their leaders, and then the last 7 minutes show a montage of them all meeting with each other and working together.
BTW, I feel so sorry for any Zyumans that may have popped up in America. |
This was such a freaking brilliant ending to a wonderful series. I loved the battle with Genis and how all of them came together to defeat him in both battles with him. Genis' true form actually gave him some character and he was a badass villain at the end. I think everyone freaking shined at the end here. This was one of the best finales ever. I love that both worlds reconnected because of their connections with each other that was brilliant. It was great to see the ZyuMan's families though it would have been better to see more of them. I loved Larry and Misao at the end too and the spirits finally leaving Misao was great too. Also, the full end theme was brilliant with all the people dancing was great. I loved the helmetless role call too. I ended up loving Zyuohger a lot more than I expected. Well this definitely makes my top 5 Sentais. Well I can't wait for the V-Cinema.
