Uchu Sentai KyuRanger Episode 7- "Bring Back The Birthday!" Discussion
The newest Daikan warrior has a sinister plot- stealing birthdays from citizens to destroy their hope. Balance is attacked & loses his own birthday to the monster...
As always you can view this episode via live stream on Saturday by heading over to Taima TV. They play other miscellaneous programs up until the live broadcast starts. Live Streams of the Superhero Time block start at 5:30 PM Eastern Standard Time on Saturdays. |
Interesting episode.
It seems that the cephalopod assassins has some past encounters with Xiao. I really like the remix of the ending theme used during their attack on Toome's base. |
Is this the first time that a Sentai opening has scenes from the movie? I know Rider been doing this for a while but for Sentai they usually do it during the ending.

Another solid episode. This show isn't blowing my mind the way I want it to be, but it's been fun so far, and that counts for something.
The writing continues to impress me. I know everyone's big concern as soon as they heard the premise was how they were going to find the time for all the characters and I think they've been doing a fantastic job with that so far. The cast isn't the most fleshed out in history or anything, but I would argue with the exception of Spada, who's finally getting his long overdue focus episode next week anyway (and still has displayed some basic character traits), all of the Kyurangers are at least as well developed as a lot of five person Sentai teams by 7 episodes in, which isn't something to sneeze at in my opinion. This episode once again made Lucky something of a side element, probably more so than any other episode to this point, but it also went one step further and made it just as much about Naga as it was about Balance. Considering they're probably the two strongest characters in the show, and even stronger put together, I'm happy to see them in the spotlight again too. Naga really shined pretty much the whole way through, and the ending with him forcing a smile was cute. And also Ex-Aid was there. Yaaaaaay... No but really, it was okay, despite adding nothing to the actual episode. I'm mostly just happy to see the Level 1 suit get some love for the first time in months, and hey, Lucky got to make a new pal, so good for him. :p Quote:

You won't believe it, but I also enjoyed this episode. The setup was incredibly stupid, but in a charming way. Balance and Naga are my favorites now, these two are simply entertaining. Then we get the two octopus guys back, and I already like how they have the complete upper hand for now. I hope this lasts a little bit.
The only thing that disappointed me was the forced crossover. Not because it was necessarily bad, the Level 1 suit action from Ex-Aid was great and it was nice seeing Lucky and Emu together, but I just wish we would get proper crossovers again. The Gaim and ToQger one was so much fun. So yeah, I had fun with this, and that's good enough for me. Also, do they sell that Ex-Aid Kyutama or is that a promotional thing? I would love to buy one. |
This episode was stupid.
I like watching Naga and Balance, though. They're a good friendship and I want to keep seeing them. I was kind of hoping Naga would break the fourth wall and say he didn't believe the squids were as dangerous as Xiao said they were, but oh well. Speaking of, I like them. They present a prominent threat and win nearly every encounter. They're not scraping by on the skin of their teeth, so they present a pretty nice measuring stick for the rangers' growth. ...Unless they defeat them with a new super cool weapon that you can buy in stores later this year. I'd be pretty disappointed if they won like that. Xiao transforms next episode, and magazines are already advertising Sky Blue, so I don't think he'll be too far off, either. Hm... |

I think this is the first episode that Lucky wasn't the focus and didn't steal it, but only because Ex-Aid stole it first (which I'm perfectly okay with). It isn't that good of an episode, but it's a step in the right direction.
Still don't like the show as a whole, but I'm giving it just a few more episodes before I give up. |
This was a nice episode thought it would be worse but I liked it, lets hope they keep it up from here then I am sure more people will like the show. Also Voyager cannons, can the toys do that? Because I really like that.
But I do have to say there was a MUCH easier way to deal with the MOTW. Hey Balance I got you a present! Its a crap ton of bombs about to go off! Enjoy!! *bombs disappear* |
So far so good, still very much enjoying this show. Yes the premise for this episode was very silly but then again this is Sentai, I think we should expect that by now. Balance and Naga got a lot of good characterization in this episode. I like how we're getting further hints towards Shou Roupou backstory especially with how serious he got. The Ex-Aid crossover is all right. It makes slightly more sense in terms of continuity compared to other crossovers, (then again it's not like Toei cares continuity anyways) so I was fine with it here.

Can it be? Oh can it be? An actually enjoyable episode of Kyuuranger? And a heist episode to boot?
The fact that they made Lucky a side element, put both Naga and Balance in the foreground and invited Ex-Aid made it all the more sweeter. Also, this might be a bit subjective but Lucky actually dispensed wisdom for once, in my opinion. His small speech to Naga about birthdays was nice. |
Talk about wasting time with Ex-Aid. I guess they didn't have enough plot to fill up this episode so they decided to just throw Ex-Aid into it because kids won't buy Kamen Rider gear if they don't appear in a Sentai show. I did like the scenes with Naga, but once again, he is completely under utilized as much as the aforementioned trio. THe two assassins look cool, but that is all they have going for them right now. This show is only 7 episodes in, but feels like it should be 15, and I'm finding myself bored. The best part of the show right now is its ending theme. Also, does the commander really think it is appropriate to spend time sending the rangers their upgrades through a game of pool? "I know your lives are in danger, but we need to make this shot first."

Enjoyed it a lot. At this point in Zyuohger, some episodes were hit, a few were miss. So far I have enjoyed all of the episodes of Kyu with the premier as the least.
I don't mind the big team. I like how they're dealing with the number by only sending 5 on each mission. Yet at the same time, we still see the rest at the base. Color me excited for next week's episode. Spada is my favorite. |

With each Kyu chance, I get closer to creating my Brady Bunch designed KyuRanger introduction screen. |

I enjoyed this episode, but I think it's the worst Kyuranger has offered us. I enjoyed Naga Rei's parts quite a bit. My feeling on the Ex-Aid crossover was that it... could've been worse? I mean, these are generally not good. At least until I remember that the ToQger/Gaim crossover, while mostly a waste of whatever Gaim's part would've been otherwise, nevertheless had one of the funniest moments in the past several years of Super Hero Time. I was amused by the fast-forwarding of the Kyulette sequence. This is a series that would benefit greatly from frequent lampshading. I still haven't warmed to Lucky. He's not Takaharu bad, but his "Yossha lucky!" drains my will to live. Quote:
