This absolutely ridiculous. They mention it in one scene and, even then, they're pretty vague about it.

I wouldn't call it vague tbh but yeah, Russia's stupid for this and it means Malaysia's probably going to ban the movie

I thought it was pretty vague but that's neither here here nor their. Point is, this really sucks for the movie.

Russia stop being the Communist over 25 years ago. NK, China and Cuba are the last communist nations that we have.

Russia has stopped being Red for a long time. What this actually is would be a law outlawing pro-gay propaganda esp. toward children (think stuff like that book about the two gay penguins raising a chick). The reason the film just got a higher rating as opposed to an all out ban is because Trini's homosexuality, based on what has been said about it, is pretty much a throwaway line that just establishes her as being gay and pretty much nothing else, rendering it neither obstensibly pro- nor anti-gay and just wholly neutral on the subject.

Which makes me wonder why they don't just dub that dialogue out. It's an American film being shown in Russia, you need to create an entirely new dialogue track so why not just change the dialogue where she says she's gay? It worked in the 90s with Sailor Moon and CCS. Somewhat. Kinda. Not really.

And I'm serious, this seems like a problem that they could've just easily solved without any hassle by just dubbing it out. It's what I would expect China to do if an American film had a very small instance of content they found questionable.

Most likely I think it will be dubbed over.

Well my guess is they would dub it since usually mass-marketing a foreign language property results in a completely new dialogue track in the native tongue. Subtitles over the original language is usually a much more niche thing to do. The only instance I can think of where a mass release film was made in a foreign language that was then subtitled would be Mel Gibson's Passion of the Christ, and he made the entire film in Aramaic with subtitles as a stylistic choice.

Probably subbed if the Netherlands is anything to go by, dubs here are VERY rare, not to mention if it was dubbed, they'd cut the lines

They did the same thing with Beaty and the Beast gave it an 18+ rating and didnt ban it.

Well, in both cases the homosexual themes are incredibly underplayed as opposed to being the main focus of the narrative. If the main focus of the narrative was Trini being gay, it'd probably have been banned.

Even then, Cuba is the only communist country that still follows those rules. North Korea was never even close to communist, it was Juche, it's own ideology. China is only communist in it's government, and barely communist at that.

Also there's Laos and Vietnam, but no one seems to remember them when this topic comes up. And several that aren't full Marxist-Leninist but have leanings.
