whats your LEAST favourite sentai series?
in honour of the favourite thread posted yesterday. I've only seen a 1 1/2 series so I can't really judge yet, but i'd love to know what other people think!
|
Zyuohger
That's because it's the only one I saw |
Kyoryuger.
|
So far, Shinkenger. Though I'm not too far into it so it might turn around for me.
|
Either Sun Vulcan or Boukenger.
|
Out of about 8, Ninninger.
|
Out of fairness, I'll only name a series I've seen in completion.
So, Kyoryuger. |
Honestly, I've never seen a Sentai that I'd rate as completely unenjoyable. So this is a little hard.
I would say Magiranger, as it's the only series I've outright hated, so much that dropped it around episode 22. But to be fair, I'll play by Matrixbeast's rules and limit this to series I've watched in full. I guess I'd have to say it's a draw between Maskman and Megaranger. I tend to enjoy "baseline" Sentai shows that are technically fine but ultimately super bland the least. Mask & Mega def fall into that category for me. A Sentai can be outright bad for most of its run, but if it has stand-out elements or moments where you can tell the creators are trying something new or ambitious, I'll tend to give it more credit that the middle-of-the-road shows that don't try to do much new and whose characters are cardboard cutouts. That's why something like Ohranger, the majority of which is pretty awful, is more toward the middle of my faves list than the two above mentioned series, which may be technically better but are consistently "meh." |
Well it depends how you want to go. Personally, if I can't bring myself to finish a series, that makes it down right dreadful to watch. As such, ToQGer and Goseiger are hands down my worst series.
However, if you only want to go by what I have completed, then it is Ninninger. Good god was that show a borefest. Turboranger would be in second place. |
My least favorite is easily Sun Vulcan. It is so boring and was a complete chore to get through. BFJ was tough to get through, but at least the second half of the season was better than the first half. Sun Vulcan was dull throughout.
|
Goseiger. Screw that steaming pile of angel dung.
|
As I have only seen very few sentai I would have to go with ones that I at least saw more then a few episodes.
Toqger: Just felt bored that I stopped at 18 or 19. Ninninger: Kinda felt like a waste of time when I got half way through that after being a few episodes behind I just dropped it. I am so glad it was not a Kamen Rider. Go-Onger: I really didn't want to pus this up but I got to like episode 6 and for a series that I like most of the designs a lot, it was just boring. |

Just curious since people want me to review it. |

Boukenger, Sun Vulcan and Dairanger.
Never really got that attached to the characters in any of those and the stories weren't my cup of tea either. Admitted, Sun Vulcan did get a lot better when Hiba took over as VulEagle, but in general, those three are the ones I had the least fun with so far. |
I started to talk about a few others that I don't like, but the more I thought about it, the more I remember why I hated this one the most: Dekaranger. There's a full list of issues I have with this show.
1) Unnecessary narrator stock audio. This is a nitpick, so I'm getting it out of the way first. I just really hate this being in every damn episode and serving no purpose. It doesn't explain anything of importance that just watching doesn't. 2) Aliens aren't people, so it's perfectly okay for the police officers to kill them instead of arrest them (or even attempt to arrest). Yes I know, Sentai and monsters etc. etc., but they set up the show as a police show, not a invasion or war, or whatever. I think they arrest maybe one or 2 aliens in the show, but only as plot convenience. The fact that they (and their morpher) are judge, jury, and executioner does not sit with me well at all. It's so obviously wrong that even Power Rangers had to address it with card prisons. 3) It's a show about detectives, so at most only 1 and a 1/2 of them are even remotely competent at their job. Ban and Umeko are at the top of this list of incompetence. They are bad at their job and one of them is the leader and other thinks they are the leader. They aren't like newbies either. Episode 1 isn't the first day on the job for either of them. Ban could get away with a bit of this early on because he's a transfer, but by episode 10 that shouldn't still be happening every episode. 4) Incompetent villain making heroes look more incompetent. The main villain was in the shadows until episode 30, where he reveals himself. If the villain hadn't done this, the Dekarangers wouldn't have been any the wiser. So not only does the villain screw him over, but he makes the heroes look dumb for not realizing there was a shadowy villain pulling the stings. 4) Lack of plot. Last one ties into this. There's not really a story arc or anything and there so easily could've been. I'm not asking for a serial or anything, just that there needed to be an ongoing investigation. Like Dekarangers should've known that the crimes were linked, but not how they were linked. That would've made for a decent cat and mouse kind of plot that would end up with the big reveal of who the villain is. Instead we get nothing. 5) One hell of a catchy theme song that I haven't gotten out of my head since I began numbering these points. That's not a negative so much as being annoyed that one of the few good things popped into my head while writing this :p |
Probably Go-Onger, the only one I stopped watching half way through, could not get over the sheer incompetence of the main rangers.
After that Zyuranger and then Ohranger, mainly because it started out so promising and then that tonal shift just ruined it. |
Ninninger, bar-none.
Extremely bland team with no real dimensional personalities other than the hothead, the cool one, the brains, the teen and...the yellow one. No real development in terms of the last ninja plot, getting chunks thrown at us instead. Villains were terrible, boring and annoying with the only legit threat, Kyuuemon, given a last-minute heel turn that went against everything they set up for him and a 49 episode run that was mostly filler over anything else. Horrible season with concepts that would have been better utilized elsewhere. |
Even though i haven't watched that many Super Sentai yet i would say Zyuranger it really felt like a chore to try and get through all of it
|
I would have to say Boukenger and Ninninger.
Both shows sounded awesome on paper at first and the art direction still to this day are some of my favorites, but both shows lost my interest quickly. I would try to keep on watching in hopes of it being better and there were a few eps along the way that were nice but overall did not cut it for me. |
Definitely have to say Boukenger and Go-Onger. While there have been other shows I wasn't a huge fan of, they all had enjoyable aspects going on. These are really the only Sentai shows that had next to nothing going for me. I didn't enjoy Boukenger's characters at all and thought it was a waste of, honestly, one of the better cast we've seen in Sentai in the last two decades. While I loved Eiji and the climax to his story, it was nowhere near enough to save the series for me.
Go-Onger I dislike mostly because of the lackluster comedy. There was a time when anyone who didn't like Go-Onger was labeled as someone that didn't like fun, but I think that's an easy way to ignore valid arguments. Go-Onger, IMO, was comedy done really poorly and often just aggravating to watch. It's also another one of those shows that I thought so completely wasted a fantastic actor in the form of Hidenori Tokuyama, who would have been a perfect fit in a more balanced show. |
I would say ninninger on top of my head because I hated the grandpa's personality and Red's monotone catchphrase/acting. I got used to Ban and Daigo, but he's horrible along with Lucky now. We haven't gotten strong menacing villains in a long time and there's way too many characters to cover in Kyuranger, so I hope it'll find the right balance.

Jokes aside it is a shame Takaharu's actor did not meet up to expectations. |
I'm not finished with it yet, but judging solely from what I've seen, I'm gonna have to go with Jetman.

The villains also aren't near as great as most people make them out to be, so that was a bit of a let down. Love the theme and suits though. Dairanger, on the other hand, is flippin awesome. I haven't seen anything of Liveman. |

In all seriousness, I think you'll feel differently once you finish the show. Jetman is a slow build, but it crescendos magnificently. |

And yeah I am going to finish it, it's almost physically impossible for me to not finish something, I just doubt my opinion is really going to change. |

Goseiger and Ninninger. I don't like characters, villains, and storyline....
|
Easily ToQGer. The ending sucked and there were like 3 good Rangers. I also didn't quite care for the DaiRanger ending but the rest of the series is pretty solid. Gokaiger I feel is pretty low for me; it was more showy than substance and the highlight was seeing who they would transform into each week.
|
Out of what I've seen (all of Zyuranger, Jetman, and Ninninger, half of Megaranger, and Liveman, ~10 episodes of Battle Fever J, Zyuohger, Kakuranger, and a handful of episodes of random other shows.) I think Megaranger is my least favorite. It wasn't awful, it just didn't do anything to really keep my attention. I made it through half of it out of pure force of nostalgia alone (I really liked In Space as a kid) but I didn't particularly enjoy any of the characters and the plot wasn't that interesting to me.

I've decided to drop Jetman. 24 episodes and I found a worst personal Sentai now. I just can't bring myself to watch further, especially as I know how it ends and that pisses me off

Man, that's a good question.....lol
Hmmm....I'd have to say...Gingaman/Lost Galaxy. The suits weren't very original, they reminded me of Zyuranger- and even though they got an upgrade later on, there was never a final ultimate combo mecha that brought everything together, so that also disappointed me a bit. |
