When did Emu ever care about Poppy? She's always the background character wirh little character development and a nurse that's use for comedy relief and suddenly Emu is all worry about her without any build up.

Emu cared about Dan, and he's an asshole who's been fucking with his life since apparently Day 1.

But you're asking why he cares about the co-worker who approached him with the driver in the first place, and who unlike Hiro and Taiga hasn't attacked him until recently, and even then she was altered to do so?

Because despite her comedy role, Poppy has been friendly with him throughout.

Hiro only just started warming up to him.

Taiga is still a grumpy puss.

Kiriya was a liar at first.

Poppy had to be mentally changed to become antagonistic.

So yeah, he wants his friend back.

Why the hell would he care about her "character development", he's not an audience member valuing a person by how prominent they are.

I'm not saying he shouldn't care about his friends, but there's barely any character developments between the two. Almost all toku heroines are shoehorn for comedy relief or damsel in distress like W and Drive. There should have been an episode or two covering or foreshadowing their friendship and Poppy/Asuna bugster origins/background in details. The writer love to tease about something important like Poppy being a bugster in the Christmas episode and never bought it up for almost 15 episodes. I felt the show is limiting the itself a lot by trying to becoming more kids friendly comparing to the early Heisei era. After Dan's death, Pallad raise the stakes, but it doesn't feel as threatening as I expected especially with the same weak revived busters and disposable common ride players.


Btw why wouldn't you care about their chracters' development. If they already have a strong establish friendship then you would feel more emotional when Poppy switch side to fight Emu. This way it wouldn't feel like writers just come up with an emotional plot and stuff it down our throat.

Except...the reveal that Poppy was a bugster wasn't that important at all. In fact, it was intentionally played up as anti-climatic because 1. it was incredibly obvious and 2. there were MUCH more important things going on in the story than Poppy being a bugster. Sure, now Poppy's bugster background is being given more plot relevance, but that's because Poppy is more relevant in the story now.

Also, Kamen Rider is a kid's show, but even ignoring that, how is any of this relevant to the show becoming too "kid-friendly"?


Nobody's saying they don't care. You just seem to have this idea that Emu can't mope over Poppy's betrayal unless they've already had a Godai/Ichijou level bromance, nevermind that Emu reacted similarly to when Kiriya, a guy he's barely known for a day or two, also lied to/deceived him.

I'm trying to say it goes way too light hearted and it kind of overshadow the seriousness of the show. I don't need the show to be like KR Amazons, but it's definitely a level below Gaim. I don't know why some people still think Ex aid is similar to it. It's still better than Ghost though.

I wonder if the show would be better if Brave or Snipe is the main protagonist instead of ExAid. However, nowadays the main rider and red senshi needs to be the unrealistic and positive all out nice guy.
Guess Emu needs to be Mary Sue. He's heroic and shiny at the same time.

Just because you're an honestly kind person doesn't make you an unrealistic character. Like... what the heck? And that's before we get into how much shit they put him through on a regular basis and the out and out frustration that would come from having your only potential allies being a pair of anti-social, arrogant jerks who belittle you at every opportunity.

Fuck, I'd say I've met more people like Emu than I've met Taiga or Hiiro, and I'm one of those people who kvetches about being surrounded by idiots and assholes on a regular basis. The fact that he's in a career path that naturally attracts idealists and kind-hearted folks for the most part, even if it might chew up that innocence at some point, actually makes it more realistic.

That and his severe lack of all-mightiness or having everything go his way...

Emu is written as the perfect Pure hearted fictional role model that every kids should love and be like. Kudos to you for getting to meet guys like Emu.

Yeah, because Emu actually being a jack ass refusing to work together because a patient is too important to him, which ended up making him go beserk and attacked his allies is a Mary Sue thing. Not to mention pretty much EVERYTHING about the M persona. Emu's also very naive
People compare Ex-Aid to Gaim because of it being surprisingly dark, with 9 onscreen character deaths, Kuroto killing thousands and with the virus and with surprisingly accurate representations of doctors like how some cases doctors ignore patients having different cases (Tsukuru and Burgermon) which end up having worse consequences or better yet, that doctors can't save everyone.

Tendou was the lead. Kenzaki was a bit of a cunt at first before character development. Takumi's an ass too. Shotaro's an endearing dork. Gentarou is comically stupid. Not to mention having Hiiro or Taiga as protagonists makes Ex-Aid lose something that it does very well, great side characters as Emu usually has to take a backseat in development

I felt Emu is too similar to Takeru from Ghost. It's just like how people used to say that Wataru is too similar to Ryotaro. I don't think we had a character like Kiriya as the main hero in the rider franchise yet, so it could have been interesting idea too. I'm still wondering if M is evil at all since he's the original bugster. It would be interesting if M separate from Emu and becomes Chronos and they both try to defeat each other to be the sole survivor.

I see what you mean and in a manner of sense, you're right, but Emu's a more emotional character and unlike Takeru, he drives the story himself. Takeru reacted to everything that happened to him during my time watching Ghost but Emu acted too. He's the one who found a solution for stopping Kuroto without killing him, he's the one who got the Drago Knight Hunter Z armour to work, to get the 4 Riders to co-operate. And again, M's a factor of his personality which is pretty damn neat to see. Also please spoiler that name or something as the guy's not been officially confirmed yet and could have been spoiled for someone

That's not what a Mary Sue is. A Mary Sue is, first and foremost, a character that is purported by the show to be super great and awesome and loved by everyone, and if someone doesn't like them, they're the villain in the situation. If it was just "a character kids can look up to", it wouldn't be a very derogatory term would it?

Brave is still rocking that DkHZ and taking down bugsters twice as strong as him. I felt like levels in the show doesn't matter anymore just like DBZ. There's still so much backstory about the bugster not reveal yet including Pallad. I wonder if they'll skip his bugster form like Kamen Rider Saga's fangire form in Kiva. So far the bugsters will never die and will return stronger each time.

Going off of a video game logic, a skilled player can take down higher leveled opponents. Hell, the show even made a plot point of it.

And we've still got 20~ episodes to go.....

He didn't even need to use the in game items like last time. Is Snipe damaging himself with the prototype gashat and we don't know about it yet? or perhaps Brave is diagnosed with some kind of illness.

This episode is really interesting and fun :D

Nico as Ride Player is really powerful and she is first Ride Player who can destroy Bugsters and she become strongest Ride Player.

Ren Amagasaki's fight as Bugster is very very funny. His Bugster abilities also looks very funny as well :D

Sometime, Ren is really remind me to Oren (Kamen Rider Bravo) from Kamen Rider Gaim. :D

Like said before, Hiiro's developed in terms of video games, as in his debut, M notes how he doesn't know anything about video games and here we are, one of his forms is a Rhythm game and he's learned how to use power ups. Not to mention Brave took out Salty last episode, who was merely level 10. Considering Snipe has lots of death flags popping up and how Hiiro didn't get used to the Gashat, it's likely Taiga's killing himself with the GGDB, which fits his idealism
We've had quite a few hints at the Bugster's backstory like their motive and their origin, not to mention the show's only just past the halfway point.

The part where he said, "I don't have a license, and yet you said that I'm your doctor. It made me happy." was enough for me to realize that yeah, Taiga's going to die. When? Not sure, but he's definitely going to die.

Also I find it great because Nico found Taiga on Christmas. Taiga received the most important gift he could get that day, a friend.

God damn it if they gonna kill Taiga I'll be upset because he's my favorite Character/Rider on the show. Why!!!!! The person I always enjoy watching in a Kamen rider show ends up being killed

The part where Taiga says Nico choosing him as her doctor made him happy made me tear up a little, I'm not even gonna lie.

Ok, now about the whole Mary Sue thing...here is what I am loving about Ex-Aid:
It is pulling elements from all the previous Kamen Rider series that work, and with Emu, he is just like Ryuki. Naive, trying to save the day, and in all honestly not main character material...yet it works. He is a great likable character...that if Toe plays their cards right, could almost go up there with Den-O on RE-marketabilty.

Not gonna lie but it's the funniest ex-aid episode.
I like that ex-aid is able to pull some serious humor chops considering how serious it has been..Poppy notwithstanding

Maybe a new rider will join the main cast and replace him as Snipe. It's been a while since a main rider get replace or a new rider join in very late in the show like Os and Kiva respectively. The last toy catalogue still haven't reveal everything and they can always add something in show and sell it later online as Premium Bandai exclusive. However, there's still No signs of Taiga suffering from using the proto gashat like Hiro. I'm eager to see what Graphite's going to do soon.

Without getting too deep, I think it's hard to draw comparisons from Emu to past riders.

Trope wise, there's always a morality theme for the central character. While some like Takeru's 'human potential is infinite....was terrible because his potential was to be a potato for days on end, others like Kouta were better because This power exists to protect those who can't fight.....admirable, and actually pretty good especially since Kouta was so comically challenged. Or
Haruto who really have a motivational other than to save Koyomi. Which he didnt.

Emu on the other hand seems to be motivated to not just save his patients, but to save them to the point that they can feel as happy as he does to be alive. He's trying to be Florence Nightingale.

Pretty appropriate for this episode too since apparently Nico is Taiga's morality pet. The episode setup was obvious. Both Taiga and Hiiro had their rough edges and by mid series that's usually enough time to turn it around. Overall though, this episode reached around on the Chris Matthews Creepy Meter to Level 99.

And I don't care if there's not enough character motivation for Emu to care about Poppy. SHE'S POPPY. She's no one's puppet!

Well, I wish the writer wrote poppy as a villain spying for her bugster allies at the CR, but turn good after spending time with Emu and Hiro rather than being brainwashed. I hope they talk about Graphite next after the poppy's mini storyline ends since he's connected to 2 of the 3 heroes. He have so much potential to be a good commander/executioner.

Ren is just a joy to watch for some reason. Also I would an angelical upgrade for Taiga only so that when he fights someone can put the song Angel With A Shotgun over it.

I agree, Ren is a delight. He's arrogant, camp, and hilarious.

I don't know but I am has feeling if Ren will be survived and become good in end of this series......

Only if he gets smacked across the face enough to the point where he knows what love is. Only then will he become good.
