Uchu Sentai KyuRanger Episode 11: "Three Kyutama To Save The Universe!" Discussion
The KyuRangers have a new goal: Recover the legendary ship "ARGO," which contains the secret to defeating Jark Matter. But what will it take to find this ancient ship?
As always you can view this episode via live stream on Saturday by heading over to Taima TV. They play other miscellaneous programs up until the live broadcast starts. Live Streams of the Superhero Time block start at 5:30 PM Eastern Standard Time on Saturdays. |
Oh my, the new Madako.
She is super polite, using the suffix -sama for Ikagen and -san for the Kyuranger (still calling them jelly brain though) and even asking them to die with "please". V Exactly the same, beside the way she talk. |

This was a really good ep with a lot of plot going on. The part where Lucky became unlucky it costs the team dearly.
The flashback of Lucky's home burning and him as a little kid opens up a lot of questions. I want to know more about that. Alos from the way Lucky was dress in the flashback it looks like Lucky used to be the prince of his planet before jark matter took over. Now I like Kyuranger it got plots going on and flashback of Lucky past I can't wait to see more. This show is finally doing something for me. Next week all 11 Kyurangers go into battle and both Mecha combine gonna be a badass ep damn. |
So apparently an entire city was eaten by those worm things. That got rather dark quickly.
|
So, Madako's personality changes with every full-body regeneration. Interesting little quirk. :lol
|
I noticed Madoko's shoes changing and it bothers me
Also holy shit, actual development/ new stuff for Lucky that could make him interesting next week |
It was okay. Slightly less okay than the last few episodes in my opinion.
So first of all the whole "Lucky is unlucky"-thing is neat I guess, but it only further cements what a terrible character he is. As soon as he starts noticing he's unlucky he's willing to sacrifice himself and abandons his team just to prove a point. Way to go man. And yes, I realise that this could very well play into the traumatic flashback and that this threw him off balance, but who am I kidding here, this guy was always a dickhead and we know it. So yeah, I was rooting for the bad guys in this one. And they did win but not for long I imagine. On to better things: Stinger and Kotaro. This should've had happened earlier instead of being crammed into this episode but I liked it. I wouldn't have used the whole "Your younger brother needs an idol"-number myself but it works good enough. It also reminded me that I can't wait to see Stinger's brother in action. Ikargen and Mardakko continue to entertain me, even though I don't like Mardakko's new personality. Her voice actress sounded funnier when she had this fake rage thing going on. Lastly, what pissed me off most: All those three special Kyutamas they need are on Earth. All of them. Come on. They go to some backwater planet to fetch a Google Maps-Kyutama and then all of those legendary three ship building Kyutamas are on Earth? They really are going to stay there for the rest of the show, aren't they? |
Well, I guess the Argo is the "secret" that Don Armage was referring to. I was hoping it would've been the history of the past Sentai.

So the moment of camaraderie between Stinger and Koutaro was totally sniped by Lucky's backstory. I'm starting to wonder if 'Talk about Lucky' really just means this series does nothing but talk about Lucky. However the action on this show continues to make it a rollercoaster. I feel like we've seen over 3/4ths of the series and we're only at episode 11. That's not good. ToQger suffered from series stutter, GoBusters was even worse with it. So unless they're going to leave the other half of the series to finding legendary Sentai globes, it's going to fall flat on it's face. |

So this episode has the same problem when it comes to talking about it that episode 8 did. It's all setup. As setup it's got me super hyped for next week, but I can't say much about this one other than "it was pretty okay".
Oh, and I really like how Lucky completely loses his s*** the second his luck runs out. For one thing, it's *gasp* an actual character flaw for a guy whose closest thing to a flaw up to this point was his inability to stop talking. The other thing I find neat about it is that back in episode 6 they made it a point that part of what makes him so lucky in the first place is his optimistic thinking, whereas here we see the reverse. He gets so frustrated with his poor luck that it leads him to make a series of stupidly dangerous decisions all in a row, further ruining his day. I like that. |
Things I liked:
Kotaro and Stinger had some nice scenes. They worked pretty good, and Stinger set Kotaro down the right path when it comes to fighting. I can't wait for Scorpio to debut proper. I also liked them using so many different Kyutama attacks. It doesn't make sense to me that they have this huge arsenal, but 90% of the time, they default to the Kyuchanger's built in blaster. If you're gonna establish that Xiao collected a literal sackful of the damn things, you might as well use 'em. I liked watching Lucky get beaten up and lose. This show needs a lot more of that. Okay. Let's move on to things I don't like, because Kyuranger is becoming less of a show I watch to enjoy myself, and more of a reason to hate everything. I don't like the new Madako. She's now super subservient and polite to her commander. I like the cocky and rude chicks. Makes them more interesting. I hope she dies again and gets her old personality back. I don't like Lucky. I don't like all 3 Kyutama being on Earth. It feels cheap and less grand that way. I get that they already established Earth was special in some regard, but having all 3 on Earth is kind of eyerolling. I don't like that they're trying to establish a dark backstory for Lucky. I honestly feel like this is merely a cheap tactic to scapegoat Lucky for the show and from viewers. "You can't hate Lucky! His family got killed! He uses his optimism to keep going to remember his people!" This show is also moving too fast. We have 2 full mecha, working on their special combined form next episode, we've had the dramatic transformation of the head commander revealing a secret power, and we've gotten our quirky additional ranger. It really feels like they've jammed pack 20 episodes into 11. Not to mention, Champ still hasn't resolved his story about his creator despite the man he thinks killed him lives in the same house, Garu has gotten nothing since episode 1, and Raptor has kind of lapsed back into "Explain the mission then sit on the ship" with how often she's deployed. It's pushing so much new shit with each episode while keeping a dual focus on Lucky, rather than working to build up what we've already gotten. Oh, dramatic background for Lucky, as well as establishing Ikagen as a special rival for Lucky (As opposed to Xiao for some fucking reason)? At this point, I think the only possible plot thread that isn't exclusively Lucky's is Scorpio, but I figure he'll figure out some way to shove his fat ass into it. |

Lucky is stupid and stubborn enough to try to go after Ikagen on his own despite being warned not to, and he almost got himself killed. IMO it wasn't so much setting them up as rivals as it was a wake-up call for Lucky to maybe do as he's friggin' told for once and not leave everything up to luck. |
I was honestly a bit looking forward to this episode but it wasn't good. The thing between Kotaro and Stinger felt pointless and probably should of been done later and handled better. FUCK YOU KYURANGER!!! I have been spending weeks trying to design voyagers for Carina, Puppis, and Vela. I have done some research to design them, how they combine, the combination scene, and how they would work. In my little research, it said something about the constellations being in the Nebula Sea ( I am most liking remembering this all wrong but still). So this would be perfect for a space voyage theme and could of been used as a final mecha or a movie exclusive. But nooooooo they just all happened to be on fucking Earth! I mean they could go with Puppis Kyutama has been inside the Death Worm before it somehow got on Earth. But that would require some thought. Which this series seems to lack. I bet even when they get the three kyutama together it will be something incredibly stupid. FUCK!!

Tsundere relies on others' acknowledgement to seem stronger than they really are. |
I just realized something. Lucky was written to be a lose-lose scenario. Have him be completely one dimensionsal while going YOSHA LUCKYYYYYY makes people dislike him regardless of how much screentime he gets. Give him a backstory to explain his character flaws and behaviour, you need to give him more focus. The first option COULD have worked but they kept cramming Lucky in so he's pretty much irredeemable for most viewers here regardless
|
So who else think they will fuck up on redeeming Lucky next week? I hope its a big fuck up. Now off I go to watch the Zyuohger movie and other better things.

Also, they just need to stop cramming in multiple character related plots into single episodes altogether. I get that they have a lot of characters, but this method is not helping them whatsoever. |
I miss episode 9, which was 1/2 Spada, 1/2 Xiao. Man, those were good days.
Then 10 happened, and Lucky took Spada's place because fuck anyone not in red amirite? |

I voted GOOD for two reasons:
1. I enjoyed seeing Lucky's ass handed to him. 2. I liked RyuCommander leading the team more. Can we boot the Red and make the Violet the leader from here on out? |
