Saban Brands files new trademarks - Beetleborgs, VR Troopers
 

For DVDs, live action entertainment, and clothing.

It'll be hilarious if they somehow use Kamen Rider shows as new VR Troopers and Beetleborgs.

I have no idea what to think about this. Metal Hero isn't really a thing anymore, despite Toei's repeated attempts to try and make it one, so I have no idea what this could be for. I did notice a lack of trademarking for merchandise outside of Clothing and DVD's. Would it be Saban or Bandai who would trademark toy, or whatever category toys fall under, rights?

Well...Neat, I guess. I don't plan on buying any DVD's.
Now, if this was Shout!, I'd be getting jittery over B-Fighter, but it's not, so...eh o-o

I assume this means nothing just like "Powered Rider", but I'd be happy to be proven wrong.


PS You know, if you took the premise of Beetleborgs and replace comic books with video games...

Imagine Western actors saying We are VR at the top of their lungs as they insert the gashat or some genie wearing an Elvis suit but talks like Jay Leno transforms kids into Kabuto and TheBee as a dubstep rendition of the theme song plays. :lolol

Technically there IS new Metal Hero footage to work with- the Space Sheriff revival movies.

I would watch a VR Troopers movie made from the Space Sheriff films.
I would immediately regret it because modern Saban's track record has been pitiful, but I would still watch it :lol

Beetleborgs can be adapted from Kamen Rider Kabuto. It's a possibility.

Maybe it's for a cinematic universe?

That would be interesting, but like the issue with kamen rider adaption is the large amount of required original fights/obvious glaring background changes. Or maybe I'm over thinking it.

I think this is just so they can keep selling merchandise.

I always felt like Saban pretty much screwed up with Kamen Rider. Had so much potential but instead they put out Masked Rider, something so unbelievably bad that not even the popularity of Power Rangers could salvage it.

Shaider Revival is workable because it was used in VR Troopers, Season 2. Gavan and Sharivan never were so it gets dicey as to whether you could obtain rights to all of them. Metalder and Spielvan have gotten no Revivals, and neither have Janperson, and I include Janperson cause the Beetleborgs episode "Convention Dimension" technically included Janperson and Gun Gibson as comic book heroes!

I've been chastised for assuming Saban could back into that game, but the apparent "ban" by the Kamen Rider creator will stand indefinitely, and Saban will never work with the motorcycle bug-men again!

Saban isn't choosing to not adapt Kamen Rider because of some "ban" but because they don't want to probably because they don't really need to since they already have Power Rangers as a relative success.

It's an old rumor that says that Shotaro Ishinomori was so infuriated by Masked Rider that he banned Saban from ever trying another adaptation.

How one man has that much power over a company no one's explained nor why he cared that much in the first place since he was badly ill at the time.

Older threads here "informed" me of this one. Apparently, Ishinomori WAS unhappy and didn't want Saban to touch his creation, and Japan's "respect the elders" mentality will keep that matter in check for the foreseeable future. If the matter is true, and I can't honestly say it is, then it kinda makes sense. Speculate for a moment: Saban wants to use Decade for "Powered Rider" and capitalize on the Decade/Shinkenger crossover, but the "ban" stays in place and Saban is still unable to make things happen. That is mere assumption on my part, but the "ban" has been stressed before to me by people who honestly believe it.

I would like to believe the "ban" is real only so I can feel that Kamen Rider is fully safe from Saban. Imagine if they made a Masked Rider now. It woud probaby make the original look better.

Nothing can be a bigger screw up than Masked Rider. Though they'd have to rival with Dragon Knight as it was pretty alright

Honestly, I think adapting Kamen Rider is less of a "can they do it" and more of a "should they do it." Not only would a Kamen Rider adaptation be far more expensive to make then Power Rangers, even if they do reuse the combat footage, Kamen Rider designs tend to be a lot more... weird then Sentai designs and some of them just won't appeal to an American audience all that much. I mean, just look at Ex-Aid. What american company would want their main *boy* hero to be pink? And that's not even getting into the rest of Ex-Aid's design.

Besides, what chance would this Kamen Rider adaptation have at having its own identity? No matter how weird or outlandish the designs are, people will always think of the show as a Power Rangers ripoff. The only people who would know or care otherwise are people who are aware its an adaptation of a Japanese show.

No matter how I look at it, adapting Kamen Rider is an uphill battle with no real reward. At least, not only that can't be gained with a lot less effort and a lot more creative freedom.

In all seriousness, I see your point. Plus, Dragon Knight didn't get much marketing nor did it sell toys until months after it started

Although Ex-Aid wouldn't be visually appealing to American audiences, it would work perfectly as VR Troopers with the whole video game theme.

It probably just means they are renewing their trademarks on those names so that no one else can use them.

Dragon Knight was just as bad as Masked Rider. Not to mention it was so cheap looking and sounding. If you are going to adapt a Toku show, make sure you at least have the budget for sound effects.

Honestly I was thinking the same thing. Saban did have more than Power Rangers regardless of whether it was a success or not. People can say all they want about how good or bad they were but Saban does have the ingredients to cook up a Sabanverse hate it or love it.

VR Troopers I actually would not mind. VR is a term and a thing that has resurfaced recently and now that they are not bound to Japanese footage, they have a chance at improving the source material.

Beetleborgs I think could work as well if they could bring what made adventure stories such as Gravity Falls, Goonies, and a LITTLE BIT of Stranger Things good.

Not really. It had original footage, better transformation effects and although it's a bad adaptation for Ryuki, it was supposed to be it's own thing and did keep some stuff according to the source material

Yes, but the sound effects were almost non-existent, there was very little in the way of explosions, and the music droned on and on, never really fitting with the fights on screen. Not to mention it was so low in volume you would often forget it was even there to begin with.

Well, Dragon Knight did the one thing other American toku shows have constantly failed to do: Win an Emmy. It was for choreography but you'd think Power Rangers could have won one for that at SOME point.

Anyway, I think both this and Power Rider are elaborate hoaxes. They wouldn't brand so many random things unless they knew they would sell. Plus the guy who registered Power Rider's name is also attached to this:

This is purely in spite of the fact that Saban's company is supposed to be in LA... I couldn't find any evidence that these two people who registered the Power Rider and 2017 Beetleborgs trademarks have ever worked for Saban.

I still go with Magenta and a more accurate hue than Decade from what I see. The textile department did a better job conveying it I think compared to Decade.
