Heisei Generations movie
Now that the subs are out, what do you think of the movie?
Emu really knows how to take a beating. Too bad Gaim and Wizard are just there. Especially Gaim. Shinnosuke really gets exposure here and we get a nice nod to Kiriko and the soon to be born Eiji. |
the non-henshin fights were awesome xD
too bad Gaim's actor wasn't in this. |
The fights toward the end were so formulaic it was almost painful. Base form -> Variant Form -> Variant Form -> Variant Form -> Cut to another fight, repeat to this point -> Cut to the previous fight -> Penultimate Form -> Final Form -> Defeat the bad guy. Rinse, repeat. Ghost's fight changed things up a little, but the other returning Riders might have well been props. It was really nice to see Haruto and Shinnosuke again (and Gaim Banana, if I'm being honest), though.
This mostly cemented my opinions about Ex-Aid, too, in that Emu's actor is awful and the aesthetics of the series do absolutely nothing for me. In direct comparison with the older suits in this film, the Ex-Aid stuff looked even more terrible. Still, all in all, it was pretty standard fare and I'm always a sucker for returning characters. As has been said, it's too bad Sano couldn't (wouldn't?) come back. |

I loved every minute of this movie. Especially when Haruto appeared. I may or may not have done a small fan girl squee. Will not deny or confirm this happened. But when he showed up and said "I'm your hope.", again, I may or may not have done a small fan girl squee. Again, I will not confirm or deny this.
:lolol |
I think this was a good one. Not fantastic or anything, but considering how bad these movies can be sometimes I was happy that this one wasn't terrible.
First of all, I thought I would hate everything Ghost in this but thankfully it wasn't that annoying. The thing I really disliked was forcing Akari into a damsel situation even though she did show a bit of character later. The only other situation I kinda hated was yet another faked out dying-scene for Takeru. Jesus Christ, how many did we see now? Five? Six? It was absolutely unnecessary and a waste of everyone's time. Now on to the thing I think this movie did outstandingly well: The inclusion of Pac-Man. When I first heard of him being in this and after seeing the trailer I thought "Cheap gimmick, no way this works", but it actually does. First of all, Pac-Man makes sense in the world of Ex-Aid and they had a really good idea when they tied Takeru into this and explained the attack on him through the Pac-Man virus fearing its main enemy: Ghosts. It made so much sense that I was truly baffled for a second. And that carries us to the next thing that worked for me: This being a movie that takes place in Ex-Aid's world and expands on it. I knew about Emu's second operation and the birth of Parad thanks to watching the show regularly before the movie, but they tied it into the show very nicely. Hell, you can even see a very, very short glimpse of Parad being formed before they cut away. That was great. Then we get to the next big part of this movie: The other Riders. I think Toei did a good job of making you believe that the Rider worlds are connected, at least with Drive, Ghost, and Ex-Aid. They use Takeru as a bridge since he knows both Shinnosuke and Emu and it works for me. True, Wizard and Gaim are bit random but not much more random than the mindless Movie War where every Rider appears just because. And I like that they got Haruto's actor back, it was nice seeing him again. I'm not even kidding, it is known around here that I don't like Wizard all that much but I was still glad to see Haruto once more. But... as a huge Gaim-fan, I absolutely hated the lack of Gaku Sano. It is my biggest nitpick about this movie, if they had Kota there, all five Riders transforming at once, it would've been epic. I understand it's real world limitations. If someone isn't available it can't happen, but having three recurring actors and then not Sano made me sad. That being said, I was a bit afraid Gaim would sound like a robot with the recycled voice lines and stuff but it really wasn't all that bad. The only time it was obvious was when he was about to finish the GiriGiri-Lady and he angrily shouted "You're gonna pay" or something. It sounded so out of place, if I had to guess it's probably from when he was beaten by an Overlord and really pissed while also in pain at the same time, it really sounded like that and thus unfitting for the situation in this movie. But I would have to lie if I said I wouldn't have enjoyed the individual Rider-scenes regardless. With their own themes playing in the back and a variety of forms (plus a rather fitting selection of enemies), it was a blast. I really enjoyed it, the Gaim portion especially. That really took me back to when I first started watching Kamen Rider. The action and effects were great IMO, lots of well done, untransformed action (poor Emu) and the animation for Pac-Man and his Game World was nice to look at. So all in all I enjoyed this. I would love to see more of this format over regular Movie War stuff since it felt refreshing and new while still delivering the goods I love. It made me forget how much I disliked Ghost for a bit and I could focus on a decent movie with some great fanservice. I can only further like Ex-Aid for this I guess, not only a great show but also a nice movie so far. I hope his solo movie will entertain me even more! |

Which episode do you think this is from? |

It's the scene where they're clashing bows, and I'm still sure it's Sid saying it to Kouta. The voice sounded like Sid's angry voice, and it made more sense to me that the guy pinning the other down (Sid to Kouta) was saying he wouldn't forgive Kouta for messing with their plans. Though now that you bring it up, a strong case can be made that it's Kouta saying it, but his voice sounds so different there, and I (thought) pay attention to how Kouta sounds when he's angry. |
You're deaf as balls if you think that line is coming from Sid.
If you've watched the fight as many times as you claim you do and still believe so, you might be clinically deaf. |
I did not like this movie and I am trying to figure out why. Firstly I think I prefer the old format to the crossover where each rider gets their own thirty minute stories before they meet up for the final third. I did like the beginning where the evil four walked into GEMN Corp. and started shooting people that was a good start. They didn't show blood so I figured they could still be alive then Gekitotsu dude snaps a guard's neck. DAMN! Why was Makoto, Alain and the others there? I understand why Onari and Akari, which I was fine with. But the others just felt really pointless and it bugged the crap out of me. I did really love seeing Haruto and Shinnosuke more than I probably should. Also glad I was right that Gaim would appear with Mr. Belt, though it would be nice if Kouta's actor could of been in the movie. The final battle was really of for me because with the past crossovers the final villain would grow or do something that would cause for a dynamic final battle. This one they didn't but they did add Takeru dying for some dumbass reason. I also know that the previous rider usually gets some kind of new form even if it's just a change in colors. But the way Takeru got his new eyecon just felt like it was pulled from someone's ass. The action with Ex-Aid and the Ghost riders just felt off for some reason till the final battle. I get why Akari wanted to go see Takeru at the end but damnit did I find it stupid for a few good reasons.

3 Eyecons in one? THAT wine |

I played both scenes back-to-back and it is the exact same line with the exact same pronunciation. But yeah, I still stand by what I said earlier, in that original scene it worked because Kota had a personal grudge against Sid, but in Heisei Generations, it comes off as random because Gaim was so cool before and the GiriGiri-Lady never did anything to piss him off that much. Also about Emu's acting. Maybe it's because I only got 2 hours of sleep but I didn't think there was anything bad. Especially as how in the show his actor's able to mimic the speech pattern and body language of a different character very well. I also really liked the effects used for the Mighty Brothers Bugster lines on Emu's face even if the Mighty Brothers Gashat came out of fucking nowhere |

Anyone notice Dekapink made a cameo appearance as a news anchor? This isn't the first time a toku veteran randomly pops up in a movie as a minor character. The five riders form changes was predictable, but I enjoy it especially with their opening theme playing in the bg.

Just caught this sub. Fun movie, nothing ground breaking. It's always wierd to see these so late, since Ex-Aid's story has advanced so much further on TV
but hey An excuse to spam a buncha suits from Gaim and Drive? BRING IT ON BABY Kachidoki form and Drive Type Trideron, some of my favorite designs in action again in full glory who can complain about that The new movie final form for Ghost looked pretty cool too. Would like SHF but doubt it happens. Oh, Wizard Infinity and All-Dragon can stay i guess. |
People have a problem with Emu's actor? Really? I thought he was fine in this, and he's especially impressive in the show where he basically has to switch between two personalities (which he does a good job at doing).
Although this movie did make me remember how whiny and passive Emu was early on (not that it's necessarily a bad thing...). |

On my 2nd rewatch of Heisei Generations, I noticed that Haruto (Wizard) seems to be a little chubbier than I remember. He should cut down on those donuts already... lol.

I loved the henchman with the sword. All her out-of-suit fights had some impressive choreography and she just oozed badass. Wish she had been the main villain; Dr. Pac-Man just didn't have the same style. The other two henchmen were also more exciting than their boss.
Seeing Gaim, Wizard, Drive, Ghost, and Ex-Aid all transform together was great. So were all the individual fights, though I preferred the villains when they fought un-transformed. Hearing the opening themes of Wizard, Gaim, and Drive was a nice touch for their particular fights. Unfortunately, the victim of the movie wasn't a compelling character at all and I didn't care about him. They should have used someone from Ghost or Ex-Aid's cast; hell, even use one of the old Riders. And as I mentioned before, Dr. Pac-Man himself was just boring. His motive wasn't interesting, his backstory wasn't interesting, I didn't care at all. Overall, it's a fun movie, but purely for the fights and the fun aspect of seeing Haruto, Takeru, and Shinnosuke interact with newer characters; the actual story isn't much to talk about. |

Finally had time to sit down and watch this. Some thoughts, in no particular order:
- I could tell within 90 seconds that Sakamoto directed this. The girl in hot pants doing slow motion kicks was a dead giveaway. - Going back to early Ex-Aid was kinda weird, but not as bad as I'd feared. Not having Nico tagging along with Taiga was the part that felt the most bizarre. That and seeing all of those Level 3 forms again - they've been gone from the show for so long that I honestly forgot some of them existed (apparently Snipe had a jet game power up). Knowing where the show has gone did add a lot more meaning to the surgery flashbacks. - The big focus on Ex-Aid at first let me temporarily forget that this was a Ghost crossover. Sudden Takeru caught me unpleasantly off-guard. That said, as TokuNation's premiere Ghost-hater, it was fun to see most of the characters get absolutely wrecked. Takeru, in particular, got the shit kicked out of him so many times in the space of 90 minutes. Loved it. - Shinnosuke and Haruto were great. I liked seeing Shinnosuke's story get some update and it does make me want to go back and finally watch the Heart movie and maybe even the Drive/Ghost film (not now, though; I've had enough Ghost again for awhile). Haruto was just cool; pretending to work with the villains for about five minutes was a cute trick. In general, I really liked having the last few Riders teaming up, even if Gaim was just a suit and old voice recordings. I always like it when older Riders come back to help, and the fact that some of these guys had previously met while others hadn't made it even more fun. - I loved the victim kid's Pearbook. - Of course the lady in the tiny shorts with all the Xianghua moves inserts her Gashat into her leg. Of fucking course she does. - The fight scenes near the end really highlight how much better Excite works as an insert song than most of the other recent theme songs. Just Live More kinda worked, but Surprise Drive and Life is Show Time do not work as the background music for action scenes. I did find it really funny that someone in production decided that, even as badly as those songs fit, Ghost's theme was such a bad match that they didn't even include it. :lol - The form spamming in all of the older Riders' fight scenes was impressive, if a little silly at some points. Did I miss something, or was that ice tire that Drive used brand new? Overall, I enjoyed the movie a lot. I'd say it's not the best Movie War (which will always be Mega Max, of course), but definitely up there on the list. |

Heart/Mach special is decent. The Heart half feels like wasted potential even if I liked it (I really wish it ended a different way), but the Mach half explains an important aspect of the character. Shinnosuke doesn't appear much in the special though. |

Edit: According to the wiki, Kamen Rider Ghost has 11 official riders not counting the stage show ones. That means that only four of those have a unique name. That's... kind of hilarious. |
Just watched this. Probably would have been better fresh, this was like watching a skipped episode in a lot of ways. Choreography was fantastic, the extra Riders were superflous, Takeru is Takeru, sound design was obnoxious, Dr. Pac-Man was a total rando tie-in. I'm probably gonna sound like an old fart but, I found the whole thing kind of exhausting.
