KyuRanger Episode 16- "Stinger Reunites With His Brother!" Discussion
The powerful Jark Matter warrior Scorpio has offered a challenge to his brother, Stinger- a way to meet & discuss the reason for his apparent betrayal. But could it all be a trap??
As always you can view this episode via live stream on Saturday by heading over to Taima TV. They play other miscellaneous programs up until the live broadcast starts. Live Streams of the Superhero Time block start at 5:30 PM Eastern Standard Time on Saturdays. |
This was a sad episode.
Scorpio kick champ into pieces and he was destroy just like that... We got some back story for Stinger and his brother and things just got so much worst for him. This episode hit really hard for me it been a long time since Sentai's has pull off something like this. I believe the last time we had something like this was in Kyoryuger when Torin was killed off. You know Scorpio is the Basco of Jark Matter when you blow up a Kyuranger and have a face like this. http://board.futakuro.com/jk2/src/1495925134151.jpg |
Looks like we're back in to filler episode next week thought. This week look very interesting though.

Takatora actually used a rider kick in a this despite never using one in Gaim.

My gosh this was a dark episode 0.0
|
Yeah, I was not expecting that. This show just go a lot darker than I was expecting it to. Also, it was the best episode of the show yet. Thing are so much better when Lucky gets shoved to the background and we can focus on the actual interesting characters.

Is it me or does Madako actually get much thirstier after each new iteration?
|
Ofc they killed the black guy first :p

They literally went to the beach and had wacky antics last episode, this came out of nowhere.

Hey, remember how we all thought this whole Stinger/Scorpio drama was going to have some sappy speech from Lucky about brotherhood or something that just solves everything?
http://i.imgur.com/tA7WFpi.jpg S*** like this is why I love loving this show. It's like every time I actually think it'll let me down it just slaps me in the face for not having more faith in it. Yeah, I'm gonna go ahead and say we have a new best episode of Kyuranger. The only way it could be better is if the first 11 minutes had been a goofy Christmas special. The quality can probably be boiled down to a couple things: - Lucky got about as much attention as Spada usually does, showing that they really are learning how to let him sit things out when he needs to. - Stinger's actor is really good, and now he actually gets to do some real emotion. He really sells the episode and you can see just on his face all the conflicting emotions Stinger goes through as this episode drags him through the wringer. - The twist with Scorpio could be seen coming from a mile away, but the episode makes it work to its benefit. Much like me, Champ isn't fooled for a second. And yet, I think they do a pretty good job of making it believable enough that you can easily see why Stinger buys it. - Also Champ. What a legend. It feels like Kyuranger is starting to actively get something out of its large cast rather than feeling held back by it. You can't really write a character out like this, even temporarily, in your standard five man team. It's a twist I definitely didn't see coming, and even though things are sure to go back to normal soon enough, this was a really great show of character development for Champ. |
Damn... this was such a brutal punch to the guts...!
I was this close to believe Scorpio was really having his own agenda and care for Stinger... boy was I wrong. Poor Champ... Yeah we know they'll fix him but wouldn't be great if he came back as a blank state like Spock? Quote:

Well Stinger, think of it this way.
You were about to become KyuSasuke. But your brother turned out to be a reverse Itachi, so it's all good! You're not Sasuke. Granted, you still got Champ killed, but it could have been worse. |
I am trying to remember but was there even a Yossha Lucky! this episode? This was a good episode and I wish they could keep this up but I doubt it.

Well shit.
By the way, Stinger's actor has the chops. |

I would of liked if we had maybe one or two more episodes of Champ and Stinger by themselves just to sell the emotional connection between them more.
Other than that, this episode was pretty great. A lot of the emotional scenes were done pretty well especially in regards to Champ and Stinger. Scorpio is shaping up to be a pretty great villian and I do sort of appreciate that they didn't go for the redemption type story with him even though I do like those kind of stories. The show I think is starting to find its footing over how to use its multiple characters, like how we had multiple action scenes going on at the same time this episode. |
Legitimately impressed by this episode, it's a real shame the show can't hold this type of quality up all the time.

I don't think he's awful - we're not looking at a Takaharu here - but Stinger has become a relatively juicy part, and this actor is just doing... okay. That's not all that severe as criticism given that really good young actors are relatively rare. With all that said, I do think this was the strongest episode of the series. We've desperately needed character-focused episodes that don't try very hard to sell new toys. Focusing on not-Lucky was a great choice. The "kids' show" element was underscored by the episode carefully making clear that Champ will be back, although I hope they go with the interesting choice they suggested that he might be different enough for *this* Champ to be effectively dead. We'll see if they're willing to follow through with that. (I hope they are, since he's been a relatively one-note character.) They did a great job of selling Scorpio as a closet hero, although I would've liked to have seen where they went with that choice. Scorpio is just a less interesting character now that we know he doesn't care about his brother. But yeah, Champ being blown up was shocking in a good way. Scorpio's creepy under-mask face is great, but I'm glad they're mostly keeping the awesome mask. I'm sort of braced for next (this) week's episode to be grating. Given that this episode made a few strong choices, though, I could probably get away with being more optimistic. Kyuranger is inching toward realizing its potential. |
