Kamen rider kabuto?
Im thinking of watching kabuto but want anyones opinion on the series. Worth watching or not. Describe the plot as simple as possible. Describe the main hero. Who is the heroine.

Kabuto was pretty good. It can get slow at parts but the story is still really interesting. A basic synopsis is that Earth is invaded by aliens called Worms. A company called ZECT is trying to stop them. Riders transform with sentient insect robots to fight Worms. ZECT supplies gear to the riders. The main character Souji is pretty cool. He is multi-talented and wise which I feel makes him really different from past primary riders. Overall I'd recommend it. The suits and insect theme are really cool.

It becomes a cooking show for a bit mid-way. Also, come ask this stuff in Kamen Rider General Questions - it's awesome!!

It's not my first toku or kamen rider series, but it's the first one I watch fully in Japanese with English subs. The suits are cool and the main character is one of the coolest rider. Almost every battle is a piece of cake to him. The hero starts off as a obnoxious person with a god complex(nothing insane) that's rude to almost everyone around him, but he always get a free pass because he's good looking as well as good at fighting and cooking. The heroine have a special connection with him that would be reveal in the middle of the series, but she's the most important person to him, so he'll do anything to protect her. Overall, it's not a good series plot wise with a lot of bad fillers and poorly executed plot devices during the middle of the series, but it's definitely a good series if you like the main character and action. It's kind of draw the line between darker series like 555 and Blade & lighter series like Den-O and Neo-Heisei. |
It has its flaws but with that aside, I loved this show looking back.
- The back-to-basics approach on the motifs were great and it paid off. The suit designs are still beautiful to look at even after 11 years has passed and the artists who came up with the suit designs really deserve a merit badge or something that will acknowledge their efforts. - The cast-off and clock-up gimmicks were fun and the clock-up battles were really awesome. Very fast and stylish. -The opening theme is great https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NIWVaV3Xpq0 -I liked how they pretty much set up Tendo and Kagami, Tendo being the perfect one while Kagami being the one on the path to becoming a rider. |

A lot of things revolve around Kagami and I think he got a lot more screen time than Tendou in the early episodes. Tendou just show up acting cool and defeat the motw. I still like his smart fighting style of predict, dodge, and counterattack. Too bad they ran out on clock up budget. The early episodes got better action choreography. Originally Dark Kabuto was going to have a bigger role too. Also, another problem is that the writers keep changing the tone of the show from comedy to serious every few episodes without finding the right balance. The actress for the main heroine got sick and left the show hanging after her big arc, but at least she came back near the end unlike Hana from Den-O. |

If they had better management of the narrative it would have been a solid 10/10 for me alongside Kamen Rider BLACK but because of the shifty narrative tone and inconsistent bits here and there I give it a 6/10. Yet I cannot help but repeat how awesome stuff looked. The show is 11 years old as of 2017 yet I would not mind a rewatch. Best fight ever was when after Kagami became Gatack he and Tendo had their double rider moment protecting Hiyori at some unfinished/destroyed looking building. And that opening theme. Beautiful. |

Too bad there won't be a reunion for this decade old series since Tendou's actor is too famous nowadays. I remember Kagami's actor promoted his zecter a few years ago, so maybe there's a chance he could show up in a future movie. Also, the Zect teams kind of remind me of the teams in Amazons and the roidmudes definitely borrow some elements from the worms. It seems a lot of people forgot this is an anniversary series along with KR First/Next because it was consider a lackluster series by a lot of fans. There's just so much wasted potential. Btw Ichigo from the first cameo in the show and Drake's actor will play v3. Did Yuki ever sang the opening live? Press Conference from 11 years ago! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hoLMc417SE |
Tendou's actor even made it in American shows iirc

Kabuto's fine. It has some weird plotting issues near the end because one of the main actresses got sick and had to take some time off, but it's a fine show with some good suits and solid action. Personally, though, I've found it to be pretty forgettable in hindsight. For some reason I keep forgetting that Kabuto exists, even though I definitely enjoyed watching it at the time.

Kabuto is one of several Rider shows dubbed into English for airing in select international markets.
It also appears to be the only dubbed series available online completely. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Sul_G0WNJk |

The first half of Kabuto is what I consider ideal Keman Rider. Cool suits, cool fights, engaging characters, solid plot, the show knows how to have fun but still allows itself to be serious...Then the second half happens and it takes a nosedive. Instead of everything coming together, it just falls apart. Hard.
That first half is still very worth your time though. |
Kabuto as a series looks really cool with great special effects, excellent suit design and one of the best secondary riders.
it falls short in the second half of the season, with the most of the budget used before hand, a meandering story and Kabuto himself being a highly divisive character, especially with that one episode, that probably should have been a joke episode, but was actually an episode and well it was terrible. |

I'm disappointed that they turn Sasword and the hoppers in to a running gag in the second half. There's so much wasted potential with the Sasori worm and Yaguruma's revenge. Also, Drake and Dark Kabuto just come and goes. There was just way too many characters and plot devices. The inclusion of the natives so late in the show really ruin the series. However, I do like the Hiyori's storyline and the fighting style and powers of the worm with 3 lives. So, I guess at the end all the worms died while most of the Natives still lives. So did Todokoro murder the original Todokoro? Everyone seems to be ok with him. |
What are your thoughts on Shun Kageyama? So far I into the series I really hate him.

I love how most riders fight with just punches and kicks.

Personally I've never been the biggest fan of Kabuto. Beautiful suits and slick action but found it lacking pretty much everywhere else. |
