Shinichirô Shirakura Announces Discontinuation of Super Hero Taisen Films
It seems Super Hero Taisen (Kamen Rider and Super Sentai Crossover) will be become discontinued

Wait, does this mean no more movie exclusive Sentai mecha? Crapbaskets.
|
So no more crossovers between the two franchises? I can live with that. So long as we keep getting movies for either franchise, I'm happy.
|
I'm not too bothered. A lot of these movies were incredibly underwhelming and disappointing at times.
|
If people still want crossovers they could just go back to doing the specials like Gaim/ToQger and Ninninger/Drive
They were mini films in themselves |
I imagine this doesn't mean we won't see any more Sentai or Rider movies, just that they're going to stop churning out so many on a schedule. The frequency definitely had a negative impact on quality.
|
I can live without it. Majority of them were not received well anyways.
|
Good riddance to (mostly) bad rubbish.
|
I'm glad that they are done with because these crossovers are really bad fan fiction made on the big screen in my opinion. I stop watching them after the Showa vs. Heisei movie because it felt like that they where becoming the same thing over and over again.

About time. The Taisens were an awful waste of everyone's time.
Hope they still do miniseries like Kamen Rider 4 and Kamen Sentai GoRider on occasion, though. The movies they tied into were garbage, but they were still pretty solid content. |
The only film in the series I didn't fully enjoy was Chou.
Still love the original and Kamen Rider Taisen. Z and GP were enjoyable enough. The web series tie-ins were also really good, both in terms of the Taihen shorts and the GoRider and Rider 4 series. I'm assuming with the success of Amazons as an ongoing Spring release series, they're probably gonna shift focus to more content like that. |
The first Taisen movie and the Chou Super Hero Taisen were my absolute favorite. I like how we got so many different Riders and Sentai together in one movie with good plot and twist. I can say I not surprise by this news I kinda see why Toei won't be doing them anymore.
Since the Heisei era is over Toei wants to move on to other stuff and it makes sense. Next year is definitely going to be an interesting year for Rider, Sentai, and Amazon. I feel were gonna see changes to how the Spring movie is done and what will happen with the Sentai VS movie if it happen at all at this point. |
The original Taisen was fan-freaking-tastic. IMO though they shouldn't completely discontinue it, maybe one every 5 years or something like that. Make them special. That will draw the people in more. It loses it's flavor if there's one every year.

At least Summer movies are when we get the exclusive mecha. I'm pretty sure the only exclusive mecha we've gotten from SHT were Shurikenjin Tridoron and Kyoryu ToQ-Oh feat. DenLiner.

It's a Christmas miracle!
|
Toei definitely needs to take a break from doing big crossover movies like this. We get them so often, that I feel as though it makes them less special as time goes on.
So yeah, I feel as if nothing of value is really lost here. |
I also feel like the crossover movies in the Spring became the same movie over and over again. I always hate how their is dumb plot twist with one of the characters pretending to be evil and end up being good the whole time.
|
Personally, I kind of hope this means they can do more specialized Vs Movies, like they did with Gavan vs Dekaranger. Like maybe a dedicated Gokaiger vs Decade movie, rather than the mess of SHT. Or maybe a movie that focuses solely the Sixth Rangers and Secondary Riders (since the cores and primaries get too much attention).
|
This is kind of disappointing to me, I really liked the crossovers.

I don't think removing spring movies means a gradual decrease in theatrical releases or anything. The Summer films for both franchises still perform fairly well on their first week. When it comes to the spring crossovers, I think it's more they're ending them cause even they realized that you can only tell the same story so many times.
SHT - Riders vs Sentai SHTZ - Riders & Sentai vs Metal Heroes KRT - Riders vs Riders KRTGP - Riders vs Riders CSHT - Riders & Sentai vs Riders & Sentai You can tell Chou was rushed since it touched a bunch of plots and didn't flesh out any of them much. That's a good sign that there's major fatigue. |
