ToysRUs Considers Closing up to 200 stores
http://news.tokunation.com/2017/12/1...d-states-48306
But the executives fought to get $15 million in bonuses for 2017. Assholes. |
Fucking magnificent. -_-
|
The fuck I was just at Toys R Us today and will be at one tomorrow. I hope they are not getting shut down mainly for the employees. Fuck the exclusives.

More than a few questions follow this!
- Has an official list of closing stores been released yet? - Could closing some of the stores help with their economic situation, hopefully leading to a revival in the brand? - If the chain goes "belly-up", could someone else cover the gap and replace them as a national toy mecca? This is personal rambling, but I do believe that the prevalence of online shopping has failed to deliver in one aspect: Reliable, One-Stop-Shopping from a trusted retailer with warehouses of licensed products! There was a time when Toys-R-Us had when no one else did! If nature abhors a vacuum, then can the Internet (and its current issues) cover the gap, or will something else emerge? - Given the enormous influx of products not found ANYWHERE ELSE and EXCLUSIVES...who will be left to market them? |

For those interested, the Guardian this morning reports that the UK division is going the same way despite earlier assurances to the contrary. Toys R Us employs 3,200 people in the UK, who all face redundancy if the firm can't agree to restructuring.
Does anyone know which of the confirmed upcoming releases were meant to be TRU exclusive? |
This is a distinct lesson in corporate greed. I'd love to expand, but it doesn't matter because ultimately everyone loses except the shareholders.

As for the news itself, this is very disappointing. Not because I care about Toys R Us itself, I'm indifferent to the store itself, but it would suck for so many people to loss their jobs. |
They can close some of the Puerto Rico locations, those places got really messed up during Maria.

Hopefully, the one near me (Toys R Us Holbrook, NY) won't close down.

ive been through that myself -used to work for movie gallery in the states -when my store was closing they said they would transfer me to one in the city on the other side of town. They Lied. They canned me day before the store was to close they told me i was out of a job. It was shitty, i got nothing from them so i sympathies with those people. Its a horrible thing to happen to you. as for the company the executives who are getting bonuses can get screwed

back like 10-15 years ago when I was collecting TF's it would always seem like TRU was just more expensive than everyone else. A Deluxe I could get for $8.-$9. at Walmart (or wherever) would be like $12.-$13. at TRU.
So for $30. it was like do I go to Walmart and buy three Deluxes? or do I go to TRU and buy two? So it became that I'd only go to TRU if I had to, for an exclusive. But even then like when the G1 Masterpiece/Leader Starscream exclusive came out, it was exclusive to Walmart, so again they go my business. I'll be sad to see TRU go because it was part of my childhood, ("I'd rather be a Toys R Us kid" commercials were a big part of childhood.)...but as an adult and worse an adult collector of Plastic-Crack,...I always found them to be overpriced. Now I feel like if I'm going to pay a little extra like I often do with BigBadToyStore, I at least have the luxury of having the figures delivered right to my door. And I guess I feel like while I may pay a little extra, the "$4. to ship everything" combined with the gas saved not driving around looking for toys makes up for it and works out pretty even. And I'm probably not the only collector that likes TRU but also sort of chose other places to shop at because at least in my area the TRU was pretty much the most expensive place to get toys. Especially when you could get the same toys down the street for less. Why spend more? |
problem i had was my parents wanted me to spot playing with toys at age 10 saying they where for little kids. it was really because they didn't want to pay for them because they were stingy
and my father has expensive hobbies i don't think i have ever bought anything at tru until this year when i picked up a transformer there while hunting about but the one near us is kinda light not a lot of pr stuff just one or two legends and the other stuff no one buys because its every where |

yeah when I was collecting before (I've gotten into it again the past year w/ Godzilla/Kamen Rider/Ultraman),..there were a lot of places to choose from. Walmart, Target, KB toys, Toys R Us,..then online there was BigBadToyStore and a bunch of other places too.
and now lately I've found HobbyLinkJapan and a few other places. ..not to mention eBay and Amazon,..there's no shortage of places to get the toys I want to line my shelves with,..so I'm not surprised Toys R Us is suffering when (in my experience) they were always overpriced. I don't know anyone who chooses to pay more, just because. Why pay $15. if you can buy it for $10.? (for example.) |
Man, it's going to be KB Toys all over again if the 2 TRU nearest to me close down. I was super sad when the KB Toys in my mall closed down as it was my go to place for toys since my Wal-Mart was terrible at the time. I'm surprised that mall is even still open to this day after the K-Mart closed down inside of it. There's only a Belk and a couple of jewelry stores left in it.

I work at a books a million we do get toys but its never 100% what we will get the power rangers ninja steel stuff we do have is all 50% off though so its nice and inexpensive right now
|
I might be the only British fan around, but some of y'all might be interested: news is now reporting that the UK division of Toys R Us is safe. There will still be job cuts, but hundreds instead of thousands.
Most likely just delaying the inevitable, but a slow collapse is probably better for the workers at least. |
I know this is nothing new but I received an email this morning in regards to when the closings will happen.
