LupinRanger VS PatRanger Episode 2- "International Police, Chase After Them!"
The LupinRangers are shocked to see police officers henshin into a Sentai of their own. Battles for the Lupin Collection just got a LOT tougher...
SuperHeroTime HAS MOVED TIMESLOTS! You can still view this episode via live stream on Saturday by heading over to Taima TV. They play other miscellaneous programs up until the live broadcast starts. Live Streams of the Superhero Time block now start at 8PM EST on Saturdays! |

Looks like the teams will alternate who kills the monster on ground level, and who defeats the giant monster version. Not a bad concept, so long as it doesn't become too formulaic.
|
The intro is absolutely magnificent, lots of foreshadowing and action.
|
And with that the introduction arc is over, overall really enjoyed it so far, the focus has mainly been on the Lupin rangers though I suspect the following episodes will put more focus on the Patrangers and the starter arc will likely end with all six of them teaming up to form the next stage of this season giant robot.
It would seem I was correct about the Ganglers being able to change the item in their safe in order to activate or gain another ability, since our "giant monster maker" for the season used two abilities in a row and changed item between them in order to do so. Aaaaand we have a muppet ! |
This episode is so fast, lots of a cgi action left and right even the mecha is all cgi.... hmm the next episode seems still lupinranger focused, now i see their backstories, i can't trust that butler, and their friend and family i straight got murdered by sub-zero fatality!!!
Okay 1 think that i got me think their mecha battle are cool but they are destroying the city lol maybe for lupin i can get pass it but for pato i don't know that just feel kinda weird but then again dekaranger did it too but still feel weird because they are the police and they are somehow ignore lupinkaiser's action is also destroting the city but its sentai so whatever its a cool battle. Also lupinkaiser finisher tho kinda brutal IMO lol |
This show is absolutely insane. I know the first 2 or so episodes of Sentai and Rider get an extra big budget to show off, but f*** me, this borders on sensory overload. The cinematography in every last action scene in this episode was several magnitudes more stylish than anything Sentai's done in a long time. The whole time I was watching it I was just sitting there like, like...
https://i.imgur.com/Viudk9h.jpg Yeah, like that. I'm hoping that even once the budget for elaborate CG mecha action runs out the fancy camerawork sticks around. At any rate, the visuals in the opening are as crazy as everything else and they're definitely here to stay. Of course, I haven't even mentioned the actual plot yet. There's still a lot left to really be established but I like all the characters so far. Kairi especially sticks out to me on account of how unusual his personality is for a Red, and the way they handled the backstory of the Lupinrangers here was great. Needless to say, I'm beyond impressed with this show so far. |
I really hope that the mech battles being this CGI-heavy isn't a thing throughout the entire series, because if it is, I won't be sticking around. Other than that, the episode was good, but not as good as the first.

Was pretty entertaining. I enjoyed learning the basic backstory for the characters (And I'm sure we'll learn more about them as time goes on), and it seems we have a wild card antagonist that connects the Lupinrangers. Wonder where that will go.
Patoren 1 is pretty entertaining. So headstrong in catching the perp he doesn't even realize that a jet can just swerve to avoid him. Rather fun. Seeing Patoren Union was rather fun as well. It was also rather funny having them line the foot soldiers up with the MegaBo. The CG heavy mech fight was alright, but I'm more curious as to how the mech fights look once the CG budget runs out. Camerawork on the normal fight was on point, so props there. Goodie will probably get annoying. All in all, I'm enjoying it so far. There's a good amount of mystery to things that's keeping me invested. Also, do we know what the V and S symbols mean? Like, yeah, I know, Versus and all, but do the individual team symbols have their own meaning? |
Holy shit. This show feels like it could be something special. Digging the heavier tone — it has a weight I usually associate with Kamen Rider. Love love love the music. So happy that there’s actual conflict between the heroes.
Aces all around. |

but tbh i really enjoyed it. which is something i havent experienced in ages. i honestly prefer to have a buttload of cgi instead of the suit actor awkwardly slashing and punching the monster once and then finishes them with chest beam every week. it gets old. it used to be done creatively in the past, but recently... |
Anyone wanna take bets on who the wild card antagonist might be? Here are my three theories so far:
1. The descendent of Arsene Lupin. In episode 1, Kogure mentions that Lupin's descendent feels ashamed for losing the Lupin collection and can't bear to face his great ancestor. My first theory is that Lupin's descendent is or was turned into a Gangler when they stole the Lupin Collection. Feeling ashamed, he/she/it decided that if they can't retrieve them, somebody else could and went about taking the loved ones of the Lupinrangers, giving them a similar goal to strive for and become Lupinrangers. It seemed almost coincidental that Kogure turns up after each Lupinranger 'loses' their loved one. He was sent by Lupin's descendent who caused it. 2. Kogure. Tying into it being coincidental that Kogure turns up when the Lupinrangers lost their loved ones, maybe Kogure is the Gangler. Motives similar to the first theory but changed to make his master feel happy again or another reason entirely. Until we're shown/told otherwise, Kogure's knowledge of the Gangler's and which Lupin Collection object they possess are because he's a Gangler. (I know episode 1 shows that Kogure has heard of that fire Gangler using its abilities but this could be a clever cover) 3. A rival Gangler to Dogranio Yaboon. Since the Gangler's hierarchy works like a mafia/gang, it's possible that the wild card is actually a Gangler after Dogranio's position as Boss. But because all the Gangler's are loyal to Dogranio and have objects from the Lupin Collection, the wild card needed a way to get rid of them (if they dont want lackeys) so he/she/it could find an easier way to take the position of Boss, thus helped create the Lupinrangers (this could also tie in to the first two theories) as a means to an end (get rid of the cannon fodder to make his/her/it's ascension easier). These theories will obviously change once more details are shown throughout the series. |
Not as much focus on the PatRangers as I hoped for, but it's still a good episode.
So (for now) only one team gets to form their mech? They better make that epic showdown worth the wait. Villains are back to growing monsters by sending the lady monster to take her time making the monster grow while TWO TEAMS of Rangers stand by doing nothing. Oh lordy it's Naria all over again. |
Still liking this so far. I'm a bit surprised that the LupinRangers got the most focus again; I was expecting more even development. I assume we'll get some PatRanger episodes eventually, but it looks like episode 3 is still going to be very Lupin-centric.
The action was good again and I think I'm going to like the heroes vs. monsters vs. other heroes dynamic we have going. The fusion thing was... weird. Weird in a fun way, though. I am super not digging the puppet, though. I have a lot of negative feelings towards puppet characters in Sentai, dating back to some of the worst elements of Magiranger (do gozarimasu desu). I was really enjoying everything up until the puppet showed up. |

I agree with him. I hated Mandora. I hated Ticket (and Conductor, a second-rate Owner, which is telling). I hated Bae. The only Sentai puppets (that I can recall right now) I've liked were Boku and the Fiveman puppets.

I felt this and the last episode had the most dynamic fight choreography I've seen in a while. It reminds me of Wizard in a sense.
|
So, I'm watching the MEcha fights in this episode thinking "Man, there is no way people aren't dying as a result of this".
But yeah, I love the choreography in this episode. I hope we see more of these three way fights. |

So they gave the Lupinrangers the Accel background of loved ones being frozen to death. Neat.
But yeah I hope Goodie doesn't get annoying. Quote:
Oh yeah anyone get the feeling one ranger will fall for the other team's ranger? |
So.....There are lights on in most of those buildings....Ermm....
I think the death counter is already past a thousand people D: ! Also dear lord the monster growers innards are legit creepy as hell, I LOVE IT ! |

Naria had potential as a character, but in the end they just killed her off when she was actually starting to realize her faith in her master was ill placed, it honsestly felt like they where building up to her switching sides, but nope...Dead ! Potential wasted.... The grower I mostly recall has to be Luckyuro, though most of the villains from Kyoryugers ended up doing well. |

Ugh....I want to like this show, but I can't, the themesong is just bad. Not terrible, it just sounds unappealing to me.
The actual show itself was pretty average modern sentai, lots of screaming and CGI, the pacing was absurdly fast, pretty standard stuff. I think I will just go back to kakuranger and remind myself of what sentai can do. |
I liked it, but I want to see more of the Patrangers, they're more interesting to me so far

I'm hoping we get some background on the Patrangers and why they're determined to take down the Gangler as well, because now you're just on LupinRangers side and see Patranger as just a nuisance.
|
Lupat is still continuing the precedence it set last episode and I'm still totally on board with it. The pacing, the interactions, the action, the music, oh my goodness the music, I am so down for all of it. I will say that I'm not too big on how the mecha fight and the beginning chase scene were like 99% CGI. It always feels like something is lost when it isn't practical. Hopefully it's just a case of early episode syndrome and I can't lie that it wasn't exciting to watch, helped by the fact that the CGI seems like 10 times better than what we usually have.

Stiiiiill awesome! Loved the Aizenborg homage with the Patrangers combining- it's nuts.

This show's been fairly light on plot so far, but it's very quickly done a great job building up the dynamic between the two teams, and much like Lupin Red choosing to shoot out that ceiling in the premiere, his decision to just leave after getting the piece of the Lupin Collection here says a lot more than it might look like at first. |

I am having similar issues with this episode myself, but after hearing some of these thoughts it makes me want to rewatch the episode. It seems like there might be more to see here that at first glance. I do want to see more of the PatRangers though. |
Another good episode. It was nice seeing what brought the Lupins together and what exactly the promise is. I am curious to know though that if they succeed, do the wish only revive one person per wisher, or would it bring back everybody lost by our whistling friend. The fight choreography was outstanding again, the chase between the Lupins and Pats especially was a treat. I do hope that within the next few episodes more of the Patrangers is explored in terms of character and story, as for the moment the Lupins are set up pretty well, whereas the Patrangers are just kinda there in terms of personality. But all's hoping. I do very much enjoy the different styles for the teams in terms of transformation. Lupin is slow and stylish with Pat being quick and efficient, in fact theirs kind of reminded me of Metal Hero esque henshins.
Another good episode and my enjoyment of the show continues. Quote:

so theres two teams? in this one thats interesting, may check out the first ep.

I rather like the more simplistic approach to the Patorangers. They don't have to have epic backstories. They're police officers. They're doing what is right not for revenge or anything, but because they want to help those around them.
Granted, considering how Pat 1 is acting, I'm sure he'll have an in depth reason for why he's so hard on all crime, but still, right now, I'm fine with their more basic touch for now. |
