just sitting here and thinking why hasn't there any new sh figuarts power rangers/super sentai characters or team in the past couple years

Gonna move this to toys and collectibles since it's not really news.

From what I've heard it's because outside of the ZyuRanger ones they all sold horribly.

Yeah, I mean you can find them for next to nothing on Mandarake.

Its a shame because I think those are the best looking figuarts.

From what I heard they didn't do well so they pulled a final gambit. For Sun Vulcan. Despite the Zyuranger stuff selling well due to American audiences

Didn't Tamashii Nations just display re-releases of the MMPR Red and Green Rangers at Toy Fair? I surely hope these aren't mere display pieces.

My guess as to why they didn't sell well is because you kinda have to buy the complete team. Unlike Kamen Rider or any other figuarts where you just need to buy one to get the full feel of the figure.

Rangers are part of a team and just getting one and not the others would feel odd. While something like a rider figuart can do pretty well on it's own without having to get the others from it's show. Which if that was the case than getting the whole team would be more expensive.

Again this is just my guess as to why.

Many pre-order them, most of them became Web Exclusives and you had fans that are like "I will wait for the price to drop" or "I will wait for a deal on Ebay and Mandarake". We got the full Zyuranger team mostly likely due to the Red and Green Ranger selling very well. Not to mention, I was told that the US market help the sales for the MMPR/Zyuranger figuarts. Sometimes Tamashii does do stuff for the US market (DBZ, WWE, TMNT, DC/Injustice, etc).

It's because it's a no win situation.
Fans demand full teams. Only red and 6th sell. Others shelf warm for ages.
It puts Bandai in a hard spot, since they can either put out what will sell and piss off fans, or appease fans while knowing 4/6 of the team will sit around.
On the flip side, they could make half the team online exclusive, but that's a whole other can of worms.

The only Figuart I own is the VulEagle one. I just really like that design. I have had plenty of MMPR figures growing up so I never felt the need to buy Zyuranger, but I expect those to sell well. But I do think the problem with that line is the slight inaccuracies, small stature, and high price tag. They usually go for $40 to $60 each, but I got my VulEagle for about $18. The price tag and the incomplete teams make figuarts unappealing. Instead of $40 per figure I rather spend $80 to $100 for a full team.

Thing is that they wouldn't charge $80-100 for a full team unless they're not selling in the slightest.
Wasn't the full Samurai/Shinken team set $150?

The price is something that I never fully understood, though. I got my Dragonranger for $19, but the same figure, without the Powerful Rangers collar, sold for $60 as MMPR green. I don't understand why the prices for the ranger figuarts varied so much (Not including the Go-Busters, which tanked so bad I literally picked up Red Buster for $7)

I've always wondered how Bandai could get around this issue with the Sentai figures.


Because you very much have this catch-22 where people won't buy the Sentai figures because they figure that the full team won't come out, yet the full team won't come out because the initial figures aren't selling. Kamen Rider gets around this because characters in Rider are more individualistic, while Sentai characters will always simply be a part of a larger whole. You have some people who are cool with just getting their favorite Rangers, or maybe just a Red + the sixth, but that's far from the norm.

As much as the Legacy line was kind of a crash and burn due to BoA's mistreatment of the line from the jump, maybe there's something that can be learned there. They were fully articulated Ranger figures being sold for $20 a piece. Much larger than SHFs too, but of course, totally lacking in accessories and the plastic quality was clearly not anywhere near as good. But with the Legacy line, it was A LOT more financially plausible for collectors to complete their teams. At $20 a piece, you're looking at $120 for a complete team, which is fairly doable for the average adult collector. I also look at SHFs from the past that were sold for a really low price point, like the Mario line or the recently released Kamen Rider Build.

Maybe they can do a "companion" line to the regular SHFiguarts line. A cheaper line with lower quality figures that Bandai can sell at a consistent $20-30 price point that's attractive to collectors. Not being part of the SHFiguarts line means that Tamashii Nations isn't held back by the expectations or higher standards of the regular SHF line, and would be more free to experiment within it. Similar to the Legacy line, but with a scale more in line with the SHF line, and with less boneheaded decisions. Then test the waters with smaller teams, like Abaranger or something. I think it could work. There's a market out there for 6-inch scale (roughly) articulated Sentai figures, but BoJ (justifiably) doesn't have enough faith in it and BoA keeps making dumb decisions that hurt any chance the line has of succeeding.

But who knows....maybe Hasbro will be the one to scratch that itch. Because if there's anything Hasbro knows how to do, it's market a line and produce a large quantity of budget yet decent figures in a short period of time.

Because multiple forms of one character is cheaper than mostly repaint team.

In my experience this is simply not true.

Most people do only buy their favorite characters.

Completionist collectors are the minority.

This is the truth.
Collectors want to assume everyone else has the desire and money to complete a whole team, but the proof is in the pudding. Red and 6th sell. On occasion you'll get another popular seller (Black Condor), but the majority of Sentai sales will always be those two.

It's not just Sentai/PR but also X-Men,Avengers etc.

why do you think they put gimicks (in some american figure lines) like collect all the pieces in the package to make another figure -its to make you think you HAVE to buy, even the dull side characters that are fairly pointless or aren't very interesting

id like it if they did make an entire team but the costs just are way too high and with more team members lately they super sentai have gotten out of control how many did the last season have?

A companion line is definitely an idea. Bandai has actually done this before in the figuarts line with Sun Vulcan's VulShark and VulPanther. The problem is they have to find a way to reduce cost because this companion set costs over $100.
