Kamen Rider Build Episode 33- "Ultimate Weapon Evol!" Discussion
The Prime Minister of Touto has been abducted. For his safe return, Isurugi demands the "Evol Driver"- a device Sento has never heard of. The secret of this strange item was locked away by Sento's father years ago...

Evol better have dope transformation like Cronus did
|
The sound has already been leaked.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cl_jvTvp1xU As far as I'm aware the Transformation jingle translates to: COBRA! RIDER SYSTEM! EVOLUTION! ARE YOU READY? COBRA... COBRA... EVOL COBRA... FWHAHAHAHA I hope that the same voice as the Transteam Gun is used for this. It would make sense. |
|
I like this isn't just a Sento's show. Banjo, Grease, and Rogue are getting some decent quality screen time. Chronos debut was better with the set pieces and dark lighting, but there's more emotiosn in this episode.
|
Holy. Shit.
Goddamn... Wow... They aren't messing around... |
God damn it misora
|
I'm sold on the Evol Driver, for two reasons:
1. Blood Stalk is voicing it which is absolutely perfect. 2. When turning the crank it plays a sample of Ode to Joy and that is just so extra that I love it. |
Since the English instructions on the Evol Driver were only on screen for about 2 or 3 seconds, I thought I would screencap from the Raw exactly what it said. Here you go:

Holy fuck Evol's gotten a badass debut
|
So the build driver is essentially an Earth-made knockoff of the older Evol driver. The makes it distinctive appearace make more sense since it's an alien device.
|
Why does Gentoku keep throwing away that controller instead of keeping it on his person? This is the second time someone just picked it up and used it on him.
EDIT: Alright, Stark had another one. But it's still not a very safe decision. |
aww damnit Misora, what'd you do?
I'm glad seeing that Rogue is a 'good guy'. 4 badass Riders, that's pretty cool. |
Welp, Dragon form next week.
|
Is it just me or does anyone find people popping out of hiding three separate times kinda comical? At this point they could have thrown in the Washio brothers and Nanba himself hiding in different corners to ambush the heroes and it would be perfect.
|
Himuro Taizan...I'm sorry to see him go. But his death will only further push Gentoku to do what he needs to do to atone for his past. This is goin to get even better.
|
Holy shit, watching this episode after Avenger's Infinity War was a mistake. I have seen too much death today.
Kamen Rider Evol costume looks like something from Blade. And his henshin is excellent. That evil laughter, and that kick with that CIAO~! tacked on. Magnifique! Poor Gentoku. First he becomes brain-washed by an alien device, then his brain-washing gets negated by experimentation so he ties to make amends only for them to backfire and winds up with his father saving him twice. A lot of people jumped out from there hiding places in this episode. |
So Evol Dragon is where Banjou gets possessed? Then Evol Rabbit possessing Sento?
|
Oh my gosh this show. I'm pretty pleased to see Gentoku become a hero, but the poor guy had to go through a lot to reach this point. Kamen Rider Evol is also perfect, the design and driver voice were so insane and AWESOME! The next episode preview makes me think the next episode will be even better, like seriously that gave me vibes of the best parts of W.
I'm pretty sure this show would literally have to have Kazumin turn out to be Otoya from Kiva and everything in Build was a leadup to NEO FANGIRES PAPA for it to not be my favorite at this point. |
Evolt driver, so fantastic ! AND THE CACKLE AT THE END ! OH YES !
|
I wonder who's going to provide Gentoku with the other Evolt Driver.

Are we going to talk about how absurdly stupid it was for Misora, holding the Evol driver, to not only stick around during the Rogue/Stark fight, but to RUN TOWARD Stark and damn near hand it to him?
I mean, the plan itself was pretty flawed to bring the damn thing to begin with, but to trust it to three unarmored civilians? Sawa has some street smarts, i figure she wouldn't have made that mistake. They had no one to secure the exit and escape route? |
Upon further thought, I have one question now. I know that the Seito and Touto Prime Ministers are dead. But what ever happened to the Hokuto PM? I know she was taken away and stuff, but her fate is ultimately unknown.

Sento didn't build the Driver as I suspected.
This is why i rather trust what the episode says itself than episode summaries |

is it me missing/forgetting something or I find extremely weird that the EvolDriver was in the basement all along ?
They say Katsuragi hid it there, but was the Cafe hideout a thing back then ? and was even Katsuragi aware of it ? And even if he was aware of the basement and hid the driver there away from Evolt, isn't it stupid (especially for a genius) to hide it in the precise place Souichi lives ? Without Souichi noticing any of it ? Maybe it's me forgetting something, I don't know. |

This was a fantastic episode; the stuff with Gentoku was great. Although they really didn’t need to put an explanation behind his shift in character there - wasn't that what the development from past episodes was for? Saying "he's so overdosed on Nebula Gas now he’s acting normal again" really didn’t need to be there. It's also complete crap.
And then the big one... Evol kinda sucks. His design is awful IMO, and he brings nothing new to the table power-wise. Teleportation and he can punch real hard. Lame. I also really don’t like where he is heading now - I hope he just steals the essence of Banjou and Sentou, I don’t want to see body-snatching happening. So yeah, great episode, but Evol sucks. Blood Stalk FTW. |
I have to admit I prefer the Blood Stalk costume too
|
I like both costumes. Blood Stalk is great, but Evol feels like someone took the original ending credits from Garo and made it into a suit.

I really do not like Evol's design, but he's a character I already know I like so I'm very confused as to what to think about him
|
I love Evol’s design so much, that has got to be one of my favorite evil rider designs to date
|
Evol really.....REALLY reminds me of a design kickback from Fourze. It might be the phase form, the overall circular pattern to the suit, the constellation usage, or the rider kick, but..but....SPAAAAAAACE KIIITAAAAIIIII!!!!!!!!
Now that that is out of the way, I honestly kind of disliked this episode. For the first time, they used no less than four plot devices to shuffle along what would have been a lot of logic into a way to twist the story. First, Gentoku's twist. Rogue explaining that because the Nebula gas actually had the opposite effect of the light from the Pandora box to bring his true nature back. Nonsense. They could have just gone on the principles of his wanting to create Faust to unify, and left it at that. Second, also Gentoku. Daddy issues. We see he has a heart after freeing Grease's friends, and not wanting to ice his father, but at the same time, the use of his father to obviously effect him for the future episodes is trite and kind of a waste of what could have been. The PM didn't have to become a martyr for Gentoku's change of character. He already arrived there. Also, sin points for hammy acting in that last five minutes. Third, yep, Gentoku again. We knew the chip was going to be a thing, and that it would just be thrown away at the end. Predictable. And a plot device nevertheless. Fourth, the Evol driver happened to be exactly where they needed it to be, at the time it needed to be there. And Sento had enough time to put it back together, reprogram Gentoku's chip, and get to the location in Sawa's clown car. And it happened to fall into Evolt's hot little hands because Misora pulled the one thing I was really hoping she wouldn't ever be written as, a morality/emotion plot twist. Misora's character has always been a strong lead, but her just walking toward Evolt when there was zero sign that he had released his grip on Soichi? Plot hole. Oh yeah, forgot....Grease. From nowhere. Because he wasn't tired anymore. Sigh. Utsumi....man, I really....really hate that guy. He's my new Sid of the season. May he get crushed by a mountain. It's purely because they had to use a bunch of really tired plot devices to push the Evol driver (toy) into being and the hammy acting that I just feel like this was a real one off that didn't have the same feel as the other episodes have had. Still good, still great effects and fight scenes, but 6 out of 10 for me. |
