$522 Million later, and the Rangers have a new home (of sorts).

Somebody gave Haim Saban his money.

And the Hasbro Era begins.
|
Could Ron Wasserman and Shuki Levy come back ?
|
Well this could be bad for the BOOM comics, seeing how Hasbro has a deal with IDW. So the BOOM comics might be ending soon.
|
Could affect the contract with Bandai of Japan and Toei ?

My hope is they keep the power rangers comic with Boom. I don't know how much financial incentive they have to move it over to IDW. It makes sense to stick to one group but Hasbro doesn't own IDW or anything.
I hope this implies the show will get an increase in quality. As to BOJ and Toei. BOJ making Power Rangers merch is likely over but of course doesn't impact Sentai figures being imported into the US. Hasbro would probably be subject to the same terms as Saban until the contract expires. It would be interesting. Unlike Disney, Hasbro bought these assets for Power Rangers as opposed to inheriting it as a package deal. Kinda hope they bring back Mystic Knights. |

Just in time for Hasbro to put them into the Hasbro Cinematic Universe :D
Yup....we're on the verge of seeing a Power Rangers/Transformers/G.I. Joe crossover. |
I wonder if Hasbro also got VR Troopers, Beetleborgs, Masked Rider, & Mystic Knights, with Power Rangers?

First hurray for more media consolidation, that's just what the world needs... Also this isn't surprising it seems like Saban only wanted the brand back so it could be sold off again. Hmmm... I wonder if Toei and their partners may start pushing other properties internationally. |
Also back to Union writers & actors because Hasbro works with Union writers & actors.

Thoughts:
1) Will be interesting to see if Hasbro pushes now for a Power Rangers movie sequel or attempts to reboot. I could see them going with a sequel as the first film did well with audiences it just wasn't a blockbuster. On the other hand they may want to reboot so they can have their Hasbro Universe with Power Rangers as a part of it... there are a TON of ways you could link the mythos to Transformers, GI Joe, so on 2) People are concerned about Boom!. I doubt they will lose the license any time soon. Hasbro knows the comics are selling AMAZINGLY well. The only way I see that happening is if they poach the writers of the two series and move them to Boom!. 3) Has Hasbro ever done live action TV before? We know that they are going to go union so I imagine that we'll see filming movie to Canada after the next series but will be interesting to see what Hasbro does. 4) If we don't get by next year a Power Rangers/Transformers Crossover Combiner figure (using Grimlock, Swoop, Slug, and two new dinos) I am going to be highly disappointed. 5) There have been rumors for years that Disney wants to buy Hasbro. I wonder if this will make them even more interested. 6) If you are GI Joe fan you should be bummed because now there is a THIRD PROPERTY, after Transformers and MLP, that Hasbro will focus on before your fandom. |

Is Nick getting the boot or do they still have control over the TV series?
|
So Hasbro now owns Power Rangers, does that mean that theoretically they could start adapting Rder and not violate the choke order that Ishinomori gave after seeing how awful Masked Rider was?
|
I'd say that I hope this means the show will get better but with them trying to shoehorn a comedy duo into Go-Busters I kinda doubt it
|
I doubt they'll move for a new location for the shoots.
|
i wonder if this will give way to original american zords and more original american ranger weapons?
if that is in the budget... |
This is extremely promising.
If Hasbro gets in this good with Toei longterm, that bodes well for Takara and Toei too. It also now means we can officially see Hasbro Universe stuff in power rangers, like Rom or Micronauts, and more. Even Jem cameos. This bodes extremely well for the movies as well. Sequel, no reboot, and it'd be easy to write GI Joe or larger HCU in since the first movie was self-contained as an incident that yet to have any larger oversight/investigation into it in the movie itself. That would be sequel content. The only draw back there is that in the PR movie universe the Bay movies are fiction. So that precludes that from being included. But they can do the rest of the HCU, and even the bayverse movies could be written into the world as fiction hiding reality like the conspiracy theory the films started to push as marketing. We can now actively have Dire Wraiths and Power Rangers crossover in tv form too. GI Joe and Lightspeed Rescue. Rom and Lost Galaxy or In Space. And of course the backbone of Hasbro itself, Transformers. Hasbro is the perfect place to salvage Power Rangers into something new and even bigger than it ever was. After Beast Morphers, expect some great things in the works. Beast Morphers was in motion before the acquisition, so we won't see the full benefits of this purchase until after it. More curious how much original content this could mean. Hasbro has a wide area of designs that Transformers and GI Joe haven't used like Sari, Cutting Edge, and Ginrai or Minerva. Kind of curious what they could do with that in the future, especially since in Japan such rights combinations are a more common thing as companies do work together on more friendly terms in various areas. This also means on the toy side, likeliness for Battle Fever J getting a remake and including that Spider-man increased. Hasbro has the Marvel toy rights. We could very well see the Marvel/Toei shared stuff now. At least in Toy Form. Quote:

I’m excited. Transformers and Power Rangers are two of my most favorite things and now owned by the same company is pretty awesome.
|
Yay!

Assuming, of course, that Hasbro continues to rely so heavily on the source footage - there is every chance that the relationship between Power Rangers and Super Sentai will become more distant, though not outright disappearing. |
I really hope this is a good sign. Power Rangers needs to be a respectable brand. It already achieved success in the comic industry, time for them to expand in TV and movies.
And I do hope Hasbro would've spend a bit more money than Saban did. In general, just a drastic change of quality for the shows. |
A lot of people found out they're losing their jobs today or will no longer have the Power Rangers license from next year, which sucks, but it means we can talk openly about the future of the franchise. It's in safe hands. Better hands.
Curious how extensive the reboot will be. |
Not gonna lie, I'm ecstatic.
Now give me a crossover with the Power Rangers teaming up with the Transformers and I can die happy. |
Haim Saban will work as a consultant ?
|
I'm really hoping for change because it honestly can't get worse for Power Rangers from a fan perspective. Saban keeps trying to recreate MMPR and the only merchandise that's released is MMPR (Zeo girls were a GameStop exclusive, I don't know how long Zeo Legacy stuff was going to last). Even if Hasbro somehow botches PR so bad that it's cancelled I think it's better to put this thing down than keep it as a zombie from the 90s. Yeah, the comics and Hyperforce are good, but Hyperforce is over and sadly doesn't look like a Season 2 is coming and the comic quality can't make up for everything else.
Although, there might not be much change seeing the quality of RiD2015 and how Hasbro milks the G1 designs for all they're worth. Their $50 Transformers are still extremely hollow as well. |

I've been on this subject countless times before, but G.I. Joe is a franchise that had an expiration date, particularly the ARAH incarnation. It is long past that date. |

Anything else that's not bandai owned, bandai has no business interfering with. And it's not like BoJ can make the material without Toei either, so they have to play nice with Toei as much on those licenses. As for PR and Sentai being different. That's not a bad thing. That's what allows Toei to double dip on each season. So the more different, the better for them as they bring it back over, dub it, and re-release it. If sentai and PR are carbon copies, it dilutes that. But in time, this does open the possibility of Takara approaching Toei for their own Toku that's transformers themed. Takara has been looking into that in the past with things like the Rescue IP. So hasbro acting as a bridge gap that smooths the gears for that can help. Bandai of Japan can cope with not owning everything. They already have market dominance overall in Japan. So a little Takara stuff by Toei isn't going to hurt their bottom line. But the possibilities for Toei on market share is fantastic too. Could you imagine the kind of fan reactions something like certain Sentai teams teaming up with RescueFire, or other Takara attempts could do for sales? With Japan, wild outlandish crossovers can generate a ton of market buzz and hype. Though the toy rights would definitely be a mess, but I'm sure BoJ and Takara can work out something as a friendly competition on which side sells better material in a "Sentai vs Rescue" dynamic. But that's far far future things. But then again, I give BoJ and Takara more credit for not being directly petty to each other. They aren't as "bitter enemies" as many may think. Business rivals yes, bitter enemies no. At the end of the day, it's all about what'll generate profits for the company and if a "never thought possible" collab will do that and do that in high enough amounts, yeah they'll put away their differences to make money. |
Bandai and Toei aren't giving Saban or Hasbro any more Super Sentai, so it's a moot point really.
