That was a disappointing episode. I know time travel is difficult for kids to comprehend, but the way it's utilized here is pretty bad. The ninninger writer probably recommend his ninninger costar to guest in the next episode to hype it up. I feel disinterest and unsatisfactory with this Christmas episode and the episode next week. Decade is done like that. I guess he could return in a special or possible spring movie and maybe later on in the series. They seriously bring in the belt destruction as an answer.

Tencent translation already out around 12pm. Seems like when Sougo get another belt and change its resolution from become good king to rescue world, Woz's book was having a big change, and Woz will become rider next episode and now exist 2 different timeline. Hmm any opinion on zi-o future storyline ?

Did Geiz say he believes in Sougo? But he did say he destroy him? I thought he treat him like a real friend now.

My expectation was heighten again after what I saw last week, but this week was utterly disappointment and rather contradicting. What the heck with woz, time jacker, and Geiz/Tsuki being immune to time changes. They're singularity points now. Decade is gone and done like that. I was expecting they do away ohma zio and possible decade by deletion or go with another I'm faking my allegiance/testing you type of cliche trope. The tone of the series shift back to very casual and formulaic. Don't take it too seriously kind of vibe. The saving grace is they hired a ninja to played a ninja to hook you in. Like exaid, ghost, and other neo heisei riders, they're easier to hire back and the target demographic grew up watching them. Honestly, the main trio is meh compares to the heroes of the last few years. The time jackers and woz are way too over powerful along being sidelined in favor of supporting their grand scheme of plan is becoming repetitive. Regardless, they're more interesting than the core trio. I guess they shouldn't hire ninninger head writer again and the same goes for zyuohger writer for lupinranger. At least lupinranger cast are more likable and oddly possess more drama and relatable human characteristic as well as personality than the zio trio.

I'm watching zi-o for decade.

This episode rocked and I felt it was a pretty strong finale to this first 'arc'. Sougo's crisis was fairly straightforward, as was how it was resolved, but I thought it was done sufficiently well.
Up until this point, I was feeling anywhere from neutral to poor towards Geiz, but I really liked the promise he makes with Sougo in this episode. It should hopefully mean he's firmly on his side while having a good reason to fight him again one day, which I'm absolutely sure will happen somewhere down the line. And hey, insert song coming through! A much more calm and relaxed song compared to the usual, which was really fitting for the scene. It was meant to go along with Zi-O's renewed confidence rather than accompany an action-packed fight. I can't recall many other instances like that. Zi-O Double Gamer is a nice callback to one of my favourite power-ups. Decade clearly should have made use of Wizard's Copy power to counter! Anyhow, I'm sure Tsukasa will return as a sign of things getting really serious again. Next week is the beginning of a whole new chapter and all sorts of bizarre things are happening. Alternate Futures? If any of you had any hopes of the time travel rules playing nice, seriously give up your hopes and just go along with the ride. I look forward to seeing Necrom 2.0 and Nega-Starninger in action, and to learn just what are they after. |
Hey everyone, guess what time it is!
https://i.imgur.com/01WQka3.jpg Time to appreciate how awesome Tsukasa is now that he's taking a break. I mean, the guy shows up, and just by being him, elevates the show to new levels of drama, while also finding the time to give Sougo a Christmas present. Although now that I mention it, it occurs to me that if somebody had shown up to take Sougo to his own past, these episodes would've basically been a Kamen Rider version of A Christmas Carol... Whatever, I'm getting way off track. The important thing here is that this episode was awesome. It was a much, much needed dose of character development for Sougo, a great way to bring Oma Zi-O back into the plot, and on top of all that most of the other characters got some great moments too. The fun thing about the character development here is that we essentially keep the same status quo as ever, but the context of Sougo and Geiz's motivations is actually very different from where they were just a couple episodes ago. Sougo is now truly aware of the burden being Zi-O places on him, and is finally taking the fact that he becomes evil in the future seriously, while Geiz has finally reconciled his conflicting desires by being willing to believe Sougo can stay good, yet still being ready to take him down if that doesn't work out. They're still doing what they've been doing, but Sougo has lost a bit of that wide-eyed naivety, and Geiz no longer feels ashamed to be fighting alongside him. Great stuff. If I were to complain about something though, it's become apparent to me that the Time Jackers are kind of boring. It's not a huge problem, given that they serve their purpose to the narrative, but now that the heroes are actually pretty well developed, it'd be nice to see some of the villains get a little more to do than pick really bad candidates for being king over and over again. Seeing them bail out of their giant robots at the end here, mildly annoyed their plans have failed again, just makes it clear how pathetic they're getting, so hopefully the show does something to change up their dynamic soon. Beyond that minor grievance, though, I don't have much else to complain about. The action was fun, the insert song was a fun surprise (especially since it wasn't mentioned in the credits?) and well used, Woz was obviously great as usual, and overall it was a good way to end the year. With any luck, Zi-O will only continue to improve like this in 2019. |
Finally some real character development.
Didn't expect Sougo to just destroy his belt from the get-go. Usually these don't happen until later or just never use do it. But hey, at least Geiz got a new reason to live now. PS: See, LuPat? Just because they had a Christmas party that didn't mean make this episode entirely Christmas-based for the fun of it. |
I think this may be the arc where Sougo finally clicked for me as a character. I feel like I have a much better handle on him now and I wish we'd gotten this stuff about the dream and his real motivations much earlier on. I don't know how much I actually like the guy yet, but his willingness to destroy the belt to save the world but still risk his life to save others has definitely bought him a lot of respect in my eyes.

Well, the resolution to last week's episode was rather... underwhelming.
The rules of time in this show have no consistency. That being said, it was nice to have Geiz finally accept Sougo and for Sougo to realize that he cannot simply give up his goal. The fights were good and the CG Time Majin battle was surprisingly well animated. Decade can't be done yet. Otherwise that would have been an abrupt, unsatisfying exit. He still has plans and he promised he would see Zi-O again... I'm sure he will be back. The insert song was alright. Somehow didn't really feel this episode and I don't think Kamen Rider Woz is going to change that much. My main drive for watching this series was the returning guests, and this episode proved that the story itself doesn't hold up too well on its own (even though last week almost changed my mind). 16.5 was good, cool for them to talk about the lengths they went to keep the special guest a secret. Bummed those are over now too. |
It feels like last episode was for nothing. And I find it funny that Sougo's uncle encouraged Sougo to keep his odd dream about being a king.

Man, I'm seeing a lot of parallels to Vegeta in Geiz.
Both start off as stoic loner rivals to the main character that would eventually accept them as friends/allies. Granted Geiz did so in a way that was less begrudgingly than Vegeta. |
...Where in the world are people getting the idea that Decade is done for the entire show now??? He was saying he was leaving that fight, nothing implied he was leaving for good...

Something tells me Decade will probably be involved in giving Zi-O the Zi-O II Ridewatch or maybe even the final form.
Also, can we consider Nobuhiro Mouri to be the main writer now? He has wrote from episode 9 to 16, and those episodes are better than the ones main writer wrote, at least imo. |
This was a good episode. And the 16.5 was especially fun.
But now comes the really great stuff. :D Gotta admit for the first quarter or so of episodes, loved all the twists and turns too. The brief story psyche outs, and the timey wimey shifts that took place to allude to stories that are now undone before they happen. Bringing Geiz's story full circle finally was fun too. And now I'm ready to see how the open road future goes and takes the story. And loved the 16.5's bit on Toei assassins. xD *Huggles Toei* you too good to me. Quote:

I agree that Mouri's episodes are superior, though. |
