Kamen Rider Zi-O Episode 20: "Final Answer 2040!" Discussion
The Rider from the Future, Kamen Rider Quiz, must unite with the King of Time to save his father. But what is the hidden power of this new Another Rider?
Watch SuperHeroTime Via Livestream!! Check out episodes as they air on Saturday by heading over to Taima TV. They play other miscellaneous programs up until the live broadcast starts. Live Streams of the Superhero Time block now start at 8PM EST on Saturdays! |
They are Rushing these Riders out. We haven't even seen anything concrete from Shinobi. He looks like a more promising character as compared to Quiz. I hope that in the episode after this one, they bring the focus back on Kagura Rentarou.

It's not 'Rider Time: Shinobi, Part 1', its 'Rider Time, Part 1: Shinobi'. Part 2 is Ryuki. |
EDIT: It just now occurred to me I accidentally posted about episode 19 in here. Hopefully if Over-Time takes a bit long for this one too I won't make the mistake of going straight to the pinned thread without paying attention. :o

I don’t remember them taking that much for subs before...Did something happen?

Lack of interest is part of the problem too I guess. |

Hey everyone, guess what time it is!
https://i.imgur.com/IBKHKLS.jpg It's still time for Buster. Actually, it's ALWAYS time for Buster. But putting that aside for a second, I've got an episode of Zi-O to talk about. I feel that overall this arc is probably one of the weaker ones we've gotten lately, especially when it comes to advancing the overall plot of the show. I think everyone and their grandmother could already tell something shady was going on with Lame!Woz and Geiz Revive, which makes a lot of the hint dropping here come off more limp than I think was intended. By the end of the episode, OG!Woz has resolved to do... something... to prevent his less cool counterpart from screwing around with the timeline any more. But as far as I can tell, nothing besides the fact that this has already happened twice pushed him to that decision. Similarly, even though I love the way they bounced off one another, the drama between Sougo and Geiz doesn't offer a whole lot new. There's stuff happening here, but the writing is way more thin than I'm used to with Zi-O. It's still a fun pair of episodes, don't get me wrong, and there's tons of stuff I loved, like Quiz working his question shtick into a dramatic scene (which just like some of Shinobi's scenes, genuinely feels like the kind of thing that would actually happen in their hypothetical shows), but this is the first time I've felt like Zi-O is just spinning its wheels, and as a standalone story I don't think it's quite interesting or clever enough to make up for that. |

So, even if characters in the show themselves notice the Rider and its Another counterpart exist at the same time, it was just handwaved ? And Mondo didn't loose his memories even when shiroWoz took his powers.
Like Tsukasa, I would have like Mondo to stay around longer, too bad. |
With Over-Time dragging their feet and the lack of a past Rider cameo to hold my interest I've started falling behind on the show. I just finished the Quiz arc, thought, and I thought it was... moderately okay, I guess?
The stuff with Quiz and his dad was fine. My only real issue is that the Quiz suit feels like it was tossed together over a weekend, especially compared to the previous fake tribute episode Rider. It was kind of neat to see a Kamen Rider who's the son of a scientist, though, given how scientists' children were the go-to kidnapping victim of every Showa era villain organization. I'm sure that wasn't the idea, but the connection amused me. My big problem with this story is that, after just a few episodes, I already despise White Woz. The last goddamn thing this show needed is another time traveler with their own agenda and White Woz manages to take all of OG Woz's more annoying traits and dial them up to 11 while simultaneously losing any of the actor's charisma in the process. On top of that, his stupid time book is giving the writer's an excuse to just lazily skip over whole plot points instead of having to try to string together a more developed story (and don't get me started on bullshit like "and then the Time Jacker's power doesn't work.") Worst of all, he's enabling all of Geiz's worst character traits. I've said before that I find Geiz to be the show's weak link and bringing in a character that forces even more half-assed conflict between him and Sougo is not helping anything. Thank goodness there's a real tribute episode coming up this week because those are really the only part of this series that I consistently look forward to. |

So did I miss something, or was it never actually explained how Quiz and Another Quiz could exist at the same time? Or why Quiz's finisher didn't destroy the anotherwatch? Or why Mondo didn't lose his memories? Or why White Woz wasn't able to write the Shinobi miridewatch into existence instantly in the last arc?

1) To create the Shinobi MirideWatch, there had to be a decent chance Shinobi existed in the future. By changing Rentaro's past, Shinobi was made to never exist, so Woz couldn't create the RideWatch. Only when Sougo convinved him that fighting for his own justice was worth it, rather than being a Time Jacker pupper, was Shinobi's existence in 2022 "confirmed" enough for Woz to generate the MirideWatch. This seems to be basically canon. 2) What I've seen for Quiz is that either Internet Theory: The MirideWatch doesn't "steal" a rider's power, in the same way a RideWatch does, but instead makes their reality more likely, effectively undoing Oma Zi-O's timeline instead instead of the named RIder. Thus, Quiz didn't have his powers stolen... by Woz, at least. While this makes sense, and is consiatant with Woz's characterisation (why would he want to ruin his own timeline, after all?), this doesn't explain how Quiz and Another Quiz can really co-exist, for a prolonged period of time, though. Plus, I don't know how official this is - I've seen it quoted on the wiki, but that doesn't really mean anything. So here's... MY THEORY: This is easier to explain chronologically, so here's the list: 2019: Schwartz gives Hora the Another Quiz Watch, and she uses it to turn Prof Douan into an Another RIder. White Woz and Quiz arrive from 2040, and the events of the episode happen. Quiz has his powers "Miridewatched", using the explanation above, because hey, it works, and they go back to... 2040: Quiz gets taken to the past by White Woz, still in possession of his powers. SEVERAL DAYS LATER: Schwartz shows up, and steals his powers for the Another RideWatch. This is when Quiz loses his powers and memories, just like Shinobi last time, we just don't see it because it hasn't happened to Mondo yet. But yeah, this is all my theorising, who knows how much of this is legit? (And I got no explanation for why he didn't destroy the Another Ridewatch other than "Quiz is weak lmao") |
I am not a huge fan of this series. I like most of designs and some of the character interactions, but the story is just boring and rather stupid. I keep watching because I am hoping it might turn around. Now about the O-T subbing thing. Some people have worded replies implying they are dragging their feet, being slow about it or what not. I am sorry but that is just nonsense. If they didn't like the show at all, it would not get subbed. They are not the type of group to sub a show simply for a fan bases approval. They are also not on any type of schedule.
|
Yeah O-T would have stopped if there was nothing enjoyable about it, nor are they dragging their feet or being slow, they have their own lives to deal with while doing subs, they made it clear a few weeks ago that they have a schedule they would like to stick with so they are not borking up their sleep rythm or day to day lives.
The fact that people cannot just be patient and instead come with negative comments towards them or using it as justifications for their own dislike of the show is just shitty. Kids seem to be enjoying the season, that matters more. My nephew binge watches the series whenever he visits, he has even gotten a few of the ride watches. |
When on Earth did Zio get W's power? Like when did that happen? Are they gonna explain that like they did Drive and Ghost? "Giez stole them from Omazio"

A great conclusion to the Quiz arc. Lots of great action and cinematography and the growing divide between Oma's Day and the rewritten future come Geiz Revive is getting interesting. Woz Futureing Quiz is just as silly as the actual Rider but still visually pleasing.
