Surprisingly, a very good episode of Zi-O... No, I think this was an excellent episode.
The pacing was great. Nothing felt too rushed and there was a proper amount of time spent on crucial scenes. We learned a lot and even got resolution to one of the long-running conflicts. Geiz has finally come to terms with his feelings and announces Sougo to be his friend. This happens in a fantastic scene that is made even more dramatic by the snowy setting, which is a rarity for Kamen Rider. And it represents the first time we hear confessions from not only Geiz, but Sougo too. Sougo confirms how lonely he is, and how he has never had any friends. Putting the last few episodes, heck, the whole series into perspective, all of Sougo's awkwardness, Geiz's back and forth and indecisiveness comes together and it gives me new respect for the characterization of these two. And I feel bad for Hiryu still but it seems he's ready to repent as well. Though the Another Zi-O Ridewatch reforming might say otherwise. Tsukuyomi learns that Decade is bent on destroying the world in which Oma-Zi-O exists, but believes there to be another path. This gives Tsukuyomi hope and leads credence to the theory that Tsukasa has been overseeing Sougo's journey to lead him in the right direction. Schwarz and White Woz have joined forces, seemingly leaving Aura and Wool behind. The final scene had me smiling. It was just so heartwarming. Woz taking Geiz's room was hilarious. The fight scene in this episode was great too. Seeing all the old Ride Armour's again was refreshing and the CG work with Geiz turning into Faiz Armour was really good. It was a dynamic battle with lots of stunning effects and awesome choreography. Can't wait for next episode with Blade! |
OKAY......I have finally come around. This was a very well paced episode not too much, just the RIGHT amount of exposition, and Sougo's Uncle's acting is superb,I BELIEVED him when he gets "serious" with Sougo...the fight scene between the Another Riders and our heroes showed an excellent use of teamwork/cgi effects..they straight BODIED the Anothers with extreme prejudice..overall a great episode that finally won me over. I hope for more Decade in future episodes tho,to be honest.....DH2!

He's got a lot of roles under his belt which makes me wonder why he's on this show unless he's a fan of the series. http://asianwiki.com/Katsuhisa_Namase |

This episode was awesome, and probably my new favourite since episode 16. So many scenes and moments that will likely go down as my favourite in this show, from Geiz declaring that Sougo is his friend, to the two of them laughing off Tsukiyomi trying to stop their 'fight'. And then the scene of our four leads together in the shop just feels right somehow.
Of course, the climax was pretty great too. This might be the last hurrah of the Ride Armours for a long time, possibly forever, and it was honestly a nice almost-nostalgic ride to see them all one more time beating those same foes again (putting aside that it was the Decade Armour that beat Another Ghost). I don't know where the show might be going from here, but I'm pretty excited. It looks like White Woz and Schwarz are going to be our main bad guys for the indefinite future, so I'm really curious about them! Though I do hope that Oma Zi-O will remain the final enemy by the endgame. The ultimate enemy being the main character's future self is just too good to pass up, you know? |
This was a pretty good episode. Zi-O and Geiz versus the Another Rider army was really, really good. The resolve between Sougo and Geiz, as well as Tsukuyomi was nice. It felt like a natural (ish) resolve between the characters. Especially with Tsukuyomi. I've voiced my problems with her dramatic change in character but at least this episodes help alleviate them and solidify Tsukuyomi's overall decision.
What to expect next from Zi-O? Who knows. We know have Geiz and Tsukuyomi deciding to help Sougo not become Oma Zi-O while living with Black Woz who wants that to happen. White Woz and Swartz working together. I will say I wish we got more from the other Time Jackers. Unless the plot demands it, they're just kinda, "there". They're at least trying something with Heure but after 28 episodes, there really needs to be more than just "make a Another Rider, hope they dont get defeated". But overall, good episode. |
Shot me right in the feels when Geiz and Tsukuyomi asked Oji-san to move back in with Sougo....
|
One question. Is this supposed to be that Oma day? I thought something big will happen. Though I do like the pacing of this episode. I like that our heroes' awkward relationship is finally over. I think they should've decide to not let Sougo become Oma Zi-O earlier than this because they already bonded with each other but I do understand how Tsukuyomi and Geiz's feel about Oma Zi-O and how Sougo give a hint that he might really become Oma Zi-O.
When I saw the flashback when Sougo said that he trust Tsukuyomi and Geiz's judgment, I realize that Sougo's actor's acting is improved. That's a good thing. |
I hope this is the moment that Zi-O finally clicks, because that was a good arc, and I know we're back to normal style episodes, but at least they're changing things up by having the returning riders play a big part.

Geiz is still the worst actor regardless of the script. Another zio was such a wasted potential. It's all hype and tease without the resolution we hope for. I'm nit asking for a geiz vs zio, but clearly their new upgrade will be overshadows quick. Wiz is getting his as well soon.

Oh no I just realized I posted this on the wrong thread. Sorry guys!

Another Zi-O is still around though considering how his Watch regenerated. I hope we get him becoming an hero later and as a sign of becoming a true Kamen Rider his mouth plate and eye sockets close, giving him a standard Rider-like look. |
The resolution of the Zi-O/Geiz conflict legit brought a tear to my eye. I'm also hoping that Hiryu becomes his own Rider later on because I'm positive we'll see more of him down the road (apparently he was added to the main cast of the show).
We definitely have something interesting going on with Team Zi-O, because while Woz is still fully committed to turning Zi-O into the overlord, Geiz and Tsukuyomi, now fully aligned with Zi-O for good this time, have the exact opposite goal in mind. I'm excited to see how that resolves. We've got some Diend, Blade and Chalice action next week so I can't wait! Zi-O is definitely one of those shows that feels like it's getting even better with each episode, and honestly, Sougo might be one of my favorite protagonists. It's just so difficult to hate the guy with his awkward, yet charming personality. |
I am wondering if Black Woz was sent back by Oma Zi-O to in part prevent his own rise to power. I get the impression Oma Zi-O knows that the Zi-O power is needed to stop whatever happens on the Oma's Day. But he also knows that present Sougo is unequipped emotionally/mentally after that happens, so he manipulates the events so present Sougo doesn't have to do it alone and allows him to finally have meaningful connections with others. Thus preventing the rise of Oma Zi-O.

Oma in the future burned over half the population of the world and seared the surface all over.
Gotta wonder what he was so desperate to kill. |
It does feel like the story is improving. We're still bogged down by the show's mandate of selling an unrealistic number of toys, but the plot has stopped feeling rote. The thread about Sougo having - without knowing it - massive personal power to warp time/reality is something I didn't expect.
I'd been enjoying how they'd temporarily abandoned my least favorite aspect of the premise: the utterly baffling mechanism of RideWatches and prior Rider series. Looks likely we'll return to it next week, but it's been a nice break. (And, hey, maybe the "Sougo doesn't understand that he unconsciously alters reality, but Schwartz does" thing will retroactively plug all those nagging plot holes.) |
I am just waiting for Narutaki to show up at this point, I mean come on !

Hey everyone, guess what time it is!
https://i.imgur.com/BEESdjN.jpg Well, it just might be time to bust out the tissues, because this was quite the emotional episode. I mean, geez, where do I even start? This whole episode was pretty much perfect. Zi-O has always had a habit of nailing the conclusions to its arcs, but considering this one was double the normal length and directly dealt with some of the show's most central elements, it's extra impressive how nicely everything was tied together here. I've been something of a cheerleader for Sougo and Geiz since really early on, so an episode like this that shows so strongly the depth I've been seeing in their characters is naturally going to be a huge winner for me. I'm a biased party, so I genuinely don't know how to explain that in a way that wouldn't degrade into me simply listing scenes and lines, so once again I'll let the episode speak for itself. Their chemistry here is great and all their interactions hit the mark dead on. A lot is communicated just through visuals too. Them both limping their way to their showdown already beat to crap says loads about them before they even start speaking. There's still plenty to talk about beyond that, anyway. Woz's simple but effective plan to keep Geiz from pounding on Sougo was fun. I feel like Woz hasn't gotten to do anything super devious lately so his gambit in this and the last episode was a good refresher on why we all like the guy so much. Even his lame counterpart gets a chance to shine, between getting to be a total scumbag kicking the kid around and the revelations surrounding him and Swartz. Swartz himself is actually someone I'm now actively interested in seeing more of, too, so for that alone, I'd give this arc a gold medal. The (temporary?) finale to the Another Zi-O plot was excellent, as well. I'm going to take this opportunity to finally single out Sou Okuno's performance as Sougo for praise. I maintain there's never been a bad lead in Kamen Rider, and while it was extremely hard for me to make heads or tails of his acting at first, he's really come into the role over time. His inflections during Sougo's speech to Hiryuu suggest a subtext to the lines that wouldn't come across as strongly if his acting wasn't good. I've been noticing stuff like this a lot from him lately. The awkwardness he had early on is thoroughly gone at this point. I guess that about does it for my thoughts? What else could I mention? I thought Another Zi-O's monster army was a cute gimmick and seeing Zi-O and Geiz take them on was so fun I'm not even going to complain Sougo didn't go straight to Zi-O II. That's something. Or how about my realization that part of the reason I love Zi-O so much might be because its comedy isn't deliberately overdone the way the past five or so seasons have been? Honestly I could keep gushing forever at this rate. For f***'s sake, I just got done spending a month raving about how great these episodes were, and the very next one is promising Kenzaki AND Hajime? It's crazy to me that Red Buster showing up was one of the least exciting things that's happened in this show. :lol |
I really like dSougo's shirt in this episode. I don't recall if he has been wearing it the entire season. I just noticed it. It looks stylish, unlike Geiz's pajamas.
