Zi-O and Zero-One August Scans
21 Attachment(s)
All of August Kamen Rider Scans.
|
That orange Kaijin in the last scan looks derived from Rushing Cheetah. I wonder then if Valkyrie doesn't start off a rider but gets her key from this guy in episode 1 or 2?

as for the other two I think the green one is the mantis that was teased in the trailer, red guy is probably bat based on the shape of his weapons. |

I'm really enjoying Zi-O's new method of scans. Instead of revealing the full month they only reveal the first half of the month. Then the next month it's mostly a recap of the second half plus a few new tidbits.
We're essentially going in blind for Zi-O's finale and it's great. That being said Zero-One's looking nice, the monsters are giving me a Ganma Vibe and I can dig it. |

Can't wait to see what Kamen Rider Iron Ma- I mean Zero-One has to offer. Looks promising so far.

Flying Falcon form looks bizarre. Seems like the effect will involve the Rising Hopper armor rotating to make way for the new armor. Much like Another W, you can see the eyes of Rising Hopper form on either side of the new form's head.

Im trying to figure out the motw naming theme. Usually its obvious Animal+monster type. So Bat Fangire nice and simple or bottle+Smash for build. In Zio it was Another (blank).
This time im struggling seems the monsters will be MaGear (a nod to HumaGear) but Ekaru Magear for the rat(orange/nezumi) Beroosa for mantis (green) and Kueneo for the red lizard one. Anyone got any ideas on the naming pattern/theme this time around. Part of me is thinking maybe scrambled words since they are infected by viruses so scrambled or otherwise corrupted names based on ability? |

A weird thing I can point out is that the Progrise Key the mantis kaijin uses appears to have its name printed on it in lieu of a key name (like Rising Hopper, Flying Galcon etc.) It's not the clearest image but it looks like it could be "Berotha Magia." "Berotha" does have a meaning, it's an insect genus, but one that has nothing to do with mantises from what little I can find. So I don't know what's up with that. |
Berotha... that works with the katakana of Beroosa I was thinking something like that initially and its not like they've never made minor lil mistakes like that before. But yeah most series use animal name type and such like Spider Fangire, or Mole Imajin... I can't think of any that have used the Japanese instead but doesn't mean there aren't.
W and Build used the object names- like Naza Dopant used the Nazca Gaia Memory. Castle Smash wound up being connected to Castle Fullbottle. But again these names even if the Dopants and Smash were Random as random can be over all - covering animals, and objects, places etc... they were consistent in a sense. These names seem pretty random. At first when I saw Berosa i was thinking browser... but then I was like no the spelling doesn't work.Since they do seem to be service robots infected with a virus after all. So then I was thinking maybe its liek Go-onger with the virus cards maybe the name relates to the virus. Or maybe its a scrambled word like in Gekiranger how Rageku the jellyfish enemywas named after jellysfish- Kurage, with the first sound moved to the end. These are certainly puzzling. Oh looking over Berothidae or bearded lacewings... they are neuroptera and a closely related family of Neuroptera is known as Mantispidae or Mantidflies/Mantisflies. So while not praying mantis's they do have mantis in the name and i have no clue what the japanese name for bearded lacewings, or mantidflies would be. But this is a possibility. Thank you barnstenchfartface, we have our theme... its phylum/Family whatever. There is a family of extinct flying lizards that was known as "Kuehneosauridae" Ku e ne o... hmm now isn't that the lizard magia/magear Berothidae gives us the "mantis" one Now I can't seem to find a name near rodentia that would give us Ekaru but doesn't mean there isn't one. Two out of three does seem to hint at scienific names/families phylums whatever as being the origin of our MoTW names. |
I too was thinking they must be going with scientific names as well because the first three names of the kaijins did not seem like the usual puns these shows tend to use. One possibility I am thinking is maybe these names will be shortened to avoid tongue-twisters judging by the one flying lizard name you pointed out for us.

I do like that they are stepping outside the normal framework. Since you figure usually its - slap name of design element on top of the type of monster. Be it English or Japanese names it didn't matter much since it usually stuck to a reliale pattern. |
