Oh boy, yet another reboot movie that I'll probably hate.

I just hope the movie will be more Tokusatsu-like this time.

I have a feeling that the general audience will be confused with this movie because PR 2017 is still a recent movie. Makes me wonder if the Power Rangers in this movie will be the MMPR rangers or a brand new team?

I hope it'll actually be Power Rangers.

I doubt it. Thanks to Spider-Man's conga line of reboots, I'm sure general audiences are keen to the idea of films being the same franchise, but completely unrelated.

They better not make them a bunch of generic goofballs. That is Bulk and Skull's department and rightfully so.

One Word: Nostalgia

80s and 90s nostalgia is not dead yet and I don't see people being nostalgic for the 00s at the moment. Not to mention, the series started in 1993.

I’m not even going to bother seeing this movie.

The nostalgia stuff is fine, it's the borrow-from-BTTF part that makes me say "Why?".

One of the corner stones of nostalgia is Stranger Things, and while they've been good for what they've done, they do need to hurry and finish.

However, a bad thing about nostalgia is that one can spread the love for what once was a little too thin! It doesn't matter if it is '80s or '90s.

It's possible that the near obsessive love for MMPR and the public condemnation of "Power Rangers is some crappy little kids show from the '90s that has lasted longer than it should've" could've influenced Hasbro's decision, and it's no secret that Captain Marvel could also have an effect. That too capitalized on '90s nostalgia.

I don't have too big a bone to pick with the time travel idea because time travel is always HOT (even if Avengers: Endgame used it while simultaneously throwing shade at all OTHER fictional portrayals of time travel)!

Anytime a Ranger Movie is released, I will go. I will go in with glee and hope things meet my expectations, which I will try to marginalize so as to not disappoint myself.

Ultimately, I didn't see an interest (in addition to not having the money) in buying the 2017 Movie toyline. I am hoping this movie will have designs worth spending a bunch of dollars on. Given the time travel aspect, I anticipate designs that merge modern aesthetics with the '90s flair for all things garish.

Given how The Toys That Made Us made certain, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that the public at large can at the very least be aware of the existence of Super Sentai, I see the possibilities of more overt Easter Eggs as HIGH!

I am not ready to de-canonize the 2017 Movie, however, as CW's Crisis has revealed that everything can be made to connect no matter how indirectly. It wouldn't be hard to do a cross-dimensional team-up movie if this one succeeds. I also fully expect Hasbro to say that this is just another universe in the Rangerverse, not unlike Dino Charge or RPM.

I await further news!

Technically Allspark Pictures who makes the TV show will be making the film all paramount pictures does now is provide distribution and production services for live action films. This sounds like a Time Force film where a future ranger team has to stop a evil force from destroying the first team. maybe like a hyper-force film adaptation. or a creative reuse of the SPD 10 years after footage.

All they gotta do is fly Yuta Mochizuki as the cameo, have him wear a tux and play the role of a pro poker player who holds a Jack of Diamonds while having his hand in a "J" shape just before Rita's putties invade the casino for Krispy Kreme. Toku fans get up in unison and begin standing ovation in the theater while the non-toku folks look dazed and confused. The rest is history.

For those not understanding what I am saying, that is a potential triple-decker of an easter egg that highlights Mr. Mochizuki's involvement in Zyuranger, Kamen Rider J, and Sailor Moon.

No one wants a reboot again. Just keep it in the same universe as the show.

It'd be amazing if they made a Shattered Grid movie. Or heck, if they really wanna bank on the MMPR nostalgia, just do a "25 years later" movie for MMPR with the original cast. Although I suppose that'd have the unfortunate effect of confirming that Trini is gone in-universe(although in my experience most fans consider that canon anyway).

I think for Shattered Grid to work we would need at least 3~4 Power Rangers movies prior and then they make Shattered Grid movies. But certain number of criteria need to be met, particularly the original core 5 are being well-engraved in the minds of people, and Tommy lets go of the just-redeemed lone wolf act fully settling in as part of the team. Then they do the Shattered Grid two-parter or trilogy depending on how they wanna do it, and just open with a scene similar to what Thanos did to Vision in Infinity Wars only with Drakkon and Tommy.

The show isn't even in its own universe.

Honestly with how disconnected and loose everything is, the Lionsgate movie could fit into the wider PR universe as easily as Samurai or Mystic Force.

What? Yes it is. There are like 2 other universe's. RPM & Dino Charge other then that yes it is.

They were making a joke about how fast and loose the continuity actually is in PR.

I'm not against time travel, not even to the 1990's. However if this is just a separate thing filled with MMPR nostalgia with zero connection to Time Force or the grander PR multiverse then I have zero interest in this project. Give me something that connects the seasons and opens the door to Shattered Grid instead of a Back to the Future ripoff but with Power Rangers.

I have to imagine this movie is going to try and explain to new fans a bit about the "original team" (MMPR) while primarily focusing on whatever new team that will exist in this "movie verse"

So I really wouldn't expect to see this movie touch on anything significant from other seasons. There's no need to target this movie to people who have watched every season of PR, they've already got you. This is to bring in new fans and bring back fans of the original that have fallen off over the years.

Yet there are other seasons that exist than the film can reference that Hollywood seems to be afraid to address. Time Force can be included without fans having seen that or every other season. A new team can be brought into the fold but it doesn't always have to reference back to MMPR or exclusively MMPR. No one is expecting every season to be represented.

I'll see it. I didn't hate the last movie (I actually own it), but I did hate that you rarely saw them in full helmets. I really didn't like the look of them in suits with the faces exposed the whole time.

Didn't feel like Sentai when you can see their faces while they're in uniform. The entire purpose of the uniform is that it's armor,.. you dont armor the person and then expose the face. Makes no sense.

But it was a fun movie, and it was cool seeing the Zord fighting Goldar at the end.

Fully agreed. The magic of PR and Sentai is that the concept can sustain infinite, new iterations.

Just make a new, movie-only PR team with a good writer and director and a movie budget. Why run from the franchise's most valuable conceptual aspect?

Because the people that make these movies are tone-deaf idiots who have no concept of the franchise they’re adapting.

They also think that spandex is silly and the zords look too practical. Yet Spider-Man is allowed to wear spandex and face off against practical looking technology. I think it's a double standard Hollywood has because the consensus is Spider-Man is cool, but Power Rangers is cheesy, so instead of embracing the cheese like Spider-Man has, they try to make Power Rangers like the next Transformers or Iron Man.

I've made that same observation to people when they say something about PR/Sentai wearing spandex...

"You mean like Batman/Superman/Spiderman and pretty much ALL other superheros?"

I don't get the fear of spandex. Some of the best cosplay costumes are comic book accurate and prove to translate to real life quite well. Yet the movies try to turn the costumes into more tactical or armor wear. Which I get for non-super powered heroes, but not for those who do have powers and don't really need the padding. Plus much like Star's tech suits for Spidey, the "spandex" suits of Sentai and Power Rangers can be either magical or nano-tech armor.

Certainly, you're correct about Lionsgate.

We've yet to see what Hasbro/AllSpark will do with the adaptation, but given their treatment of Transformers, I'm... skeptical. Maybe it'll be exactly what we want? I'm reserving judgement only because The End of the Fucking World is actually pretty great.

It's a trend you see with most any franchise translated to the big screen -- Transformers, TMNT, DC, Marvel, whatever. Any traces of simplicity or 'kiddy' design must be wiped out and replaced with something Cool and Military and Realistic and Edgy. No fun allowed.

Yeah, it's like... it's not like every single one of these is a bad movie (I did find myself enjoying at least a lot of things about Lionsgate Power Rangers), but the general trend of "If we're making a live-action version of a property, it MUST be dark and edgy" gets so exhausting. This is why I got so into Toku in the first place lol; it actually knows how to have fun and what a smile is.

Sentai too (at times).

But Power Rangers (or my favorite, Akibarangers!)... is what I watch when I'm in the mood for light hearted toku with a touch of comedy.
