2020's toku shows predictions ?
 

Do you guys have any predictions to the 2020's toku shows ?

I demand the return of Kamen Ruder Shinobi in some form.

The show after Zero-One (2020-2021 Kamen Rider) will be even more of an homage since they're celebrating the 50th anniversary of the show.

Sentai will still shove its spotlight onto Red.

Ultraman will go all out on celebrating Zero's 10th anniversary.

Beast Morphers is hopefully the last of these 'Neo-Saban stains' and the next one will be completely fresh. If not then the TV show is dead to me forever.

Tsukasa Kadoya will return again

In Endgame. :lolol

Disney buys out Toei. We get sequels to Ninninger and Faiz that no-one wanted

I'll take that Faiz sequel.

Sure, but it'll just be a setup for the Wizard sequel and not actually be about anything.

Toei decides to make sequels from past/previous sentais.

I don't see that happening. We got a bit of that a few years ago with the Hurricanger and Dekaranger 10 Years Later movies, but that never became a regular thing.

This is probably just wishful thinking, but could we have an actual time travel sentai?! I realise that it's kind of the point that it's in the present day but they haven't really attempted to do it other than Timeranger and some bits in Gokaiger and I would actually like to see it, maybe something like that show Flint the Time Detective!

That cartoon wasn't that popular back in day and Toei usually use popular shows/movies as their inspiration.

I hope we will get some type of official streaming for Kamen Rider. It seems like Bluefin is really trying to push Kamen Rider back in the NA market again. When I was doing volunteer work for them in 2017, I told them "How come you guys don't promote your Kamen Rider figuarts anymore" and they were like "Umm...." with no clear no answer.

A female main Rider sounds too good to be true, but I hope for at least more female side Riders, maybe even the second rider.

Do you mean American shows that are a homage to Henshin heroes than that would be cool. Otherwise, pretty much any American show with special effects are American Toku.

I don't consider myself a feminist but it is getting ridiculous now how often female riders either die or turn out to be evil. I think magical girl shows can also be sexist but they should have a female second rider, maybe even from episode 1.

Unless, they're superheroes.

I do consider myself a feminist and could get into a whole spiel about how that term has been twisted and distorted, but this isn't the right forum for that :) Anyway yeah, a female second rider who was there from the start (and stayed alive and heroic the whole time) would be awesome!

Technically, toku just means live-action with heavy use of special effects. A lot of western superhero shows and movies fit that criteria, they just have a different style than Japanese superheroes.

But they're not PR-like shows.

I wonder if we'll get a Kamen Rider season soon that's more mystical or supernatural themed instead of being scifi. We haven't had one of those since Ghost.

Yeah, I get your point. Even Ghost was hi-tech/sci-fi heavy themed, with the only actual supernatural element being the souls stored in Eyecons. As far as I know, the last mystical/supernatural Rider was Kiva. OOO was more like ancient technology.

I also wish we'll get another organic/biological themed Rider show. It was (kinda) used on Amazons, although the second season was more hi-tech/robotic themed. The last Heisei Rider with this theme was Hibiki, which also had mystical/supernatural theme.

Or perhaps season like Agito which had 3 main types of Rider: mystical/supranatural (Agito & Another Agito), hi-tech/robotic (the G Systems), and organic/biological (Gills).

We can clearly see why Ishinomori/Toei/Bandai/TV Asahi wants (or probably NEEDS) another hi-tech themed Rider show: It's WAAAAY more toyetic. The G Systems riders, Ryuki riders with all their weapons and specialties, Faiz riders with their gears disguised as electronic devices, Birth with his all his weapons, etc, they all use plenty of items, not only as weapons, but also the source of their power. More items used (or, heck, even only displayed) on TV = more toys & merchs possibilities. It's harder to create toys and merchs to sell when your Riders transform their own body (ex: Gills), uses small transformation devices (ex: Hibiki riders), has very small number of power/form variations (ex: again, the Hibiki riders), uses only one device to access all his powers (ex: Kuuga, Agito, Den-O), etc. Basically anything that hinders your Rider characters from using shitload of items is not good for toy & merch sales. The worst case was Hibiki. Despite its stellar story and approach (for the Takatera produced/first 30 episodes only), the toy sales was abysmal. This and several other issues were responsible for the worst debacle in Kamen Rider history that derailed the whole series from episodes 31, but that's another rant.

Back to topic, I see this trend of multiple transformation device was started in Kiva era. They were still doing it right up to Drive (and Amazons as an exception), until Ghost proved this trend to be detrimental to story and character development. It got worse in Ex-Aid, Build, and Zi-O. They gave too much power upgrades, weapons, and other items I can barely remember to the main Riders, but sacrificed depth and impact in story and character development so much we people in trading world would call those items "free lunch".

Toku is technically live action anime.

But the jokes are pretty similar.
