Your top 5 least-favorite Tokusatsu shows?
Out of any Tokusatsu shows (Kamen Rider, Super Sentai, Ultraman, Metal Heroes etc.), which 5 is your least-favorite.
The one you either didn’t like or didn’t personally enjoyed to the point it’s feel doing chores than genuinely invest on the show? For a record, this is my personally opinion and I do know there’s people who do like those shows but for me, I either didn’t like or feel I was doing a chore. Here’s mine 5. Kamen Rider Decade (At least Zi-O bring back original Riders actors back for the show while Decade didn’t bother to bring them back and they replace them with A.D. Version of Riders that nobody gives a shit about and the protagonist is an arrogant prick) 4. Kyoryuger (Aka Daigo Sentai Kingranger) 3. Kamen Rider Wizard (Boring and very slow progress in the storyline) 2. Kamen Raider Ghost (Messy storyline and you can tell the head writer didn’t know what was he doing with storyline and he’s basically throw everything at us to stretch the show like that unnecessary Makoto’s doppelgänger arc) 1. Ninninger (I really HATED this show and this one is by far my least-favorite Tokusatsu show, I rather watch Kamen Rider Drive or even ToQger than watching this garbage!) |
imo the AR Riders were awesome and I'm so sad we never got one of Den-O. Would have loved to have seen them for post-Decade series as well -- the Ex-Aid riders being based in a fire station! Wizard being a magic school of Kamen Rider Mages! Fourze but he's ridiculously Faiz-tier mopey! There's so much fun to be had with the concept...

What's with all these threads that are just ripe for stirring up beef... Also people ought to use the 'general thoughts' or whatever thread for these things more often.

- Double being a pair of siblings, and being a lot more at eachother's throats than Philip or Shotaro (of course, Decade helps them learn to work together). Skull is their dad. - All I have is "Banjo = Evolt" for Build, which is certainly an idea. - Drive being set at a race track, with the Special Ops team reimagined as a the pit crew. - Ex-Aid is effectively the Ryuki AU, but with a video game tournament instead. Tsukasa has to learn how to be a gamer, before he rage-quits that reality. - Magic School Wizard, Magic School Wizard. |
Okay I've got no real list of top 5 least favorite toku things.
I'm just here to say that I love the idea of Decade 2 AR Worlds cause you could get really creative with some concepts like with how everyone is here. Like off the top of my head, Gaim, actually have the theme and nationality of the Riders matter and have it be like an actual world wide cup tournament of Riders of sorts. |
I was gonna give an idea for the Gaim AU, but we already have one perectly crafted, and it even fits into your "World Cup" idea.
- More Football Gaim. Also I like the idea of, like Den-O, one of the shows is just the same. It gets to be Ghost, because Ghost's actor is always happy to come back. |
Well, this will probably be my least surprising post ever.
5. Kamen Rider Zi-O. A few good tribute episodes can't make up for the show's awful plot, characters, and tactical dickies. 4. Kamen Rider Kiva. I'd explain, but that would really be going against the spirit of the show. 3. Kyoruger. Setting aside how the largest ensemble to date was focused on only one character, it was an incredibly obnoxious show to watch with all of the constant blaring noises. 2. Magiranger. Probably Sentai at its dumbest and most annoying de gozarimasu desu. 1. Kamen Rider Ghost. Oh man, fuck this show. |
Going from least to most bad, IMO
5. Power Rangers Super Mega Force I was able to get behind the angle that Season 1 was going for, but Season 2... well, there have been entire essays written about what an absolute waste SMF was. I will say though that there are plenty of ways they could've combined Goseiger and Gokaiger in perfectly solid ways, but missed the mark entirely. The fact that the show got robbed of alot due to behind-the-scenes nonsense only makes it worse. 4. Saban's Masked Rider Absolute trash, but I could at the very least see how someone could maybe have some fun watching it. Believe it or not, yes, the show does a very, very small, but devoted fanbase. 3. Kamen Rider Dragon Knight A show that took itself way too seriously for what it ended up being, and one that seemed like it kept trying to stress that it wasn't Power Rangers, as if that's meant to inherently be some sort of grand achievement. It also made me never want to see a black leather outfit ever again in my life. But, it did atleast have one character I liked; Sting. ...Who they promptly get rid of and completely screw over, even when it's revealed everyone can be revived. The last episode being a glorified clip show only makes everything worse. 2. Netflix Ultraman Yes I'm counting it despite it being anime. It's also straight up the most boring Toku show I've ever seen. I don't know what the voice director was thinking, but everyone sounds like they're half asleep. Combine that with trite characters and lame action scenes... it made the show really hard to sit through. 1. Tattooed Teenage Alien Fighters from Beverly Hills Anyone remember this show? No? Exactly. |
So much negativity. What's the next thread gonna be? Who is the worst actor in Toku? Which suit actor should retire?
Good lord, so many threads dedicated to nothing but shitting on things and trying to just start shit. |

I mean, maybe I missed something, but far as I know this is only the 2nd "negativity" thread made recently. And when it comes to the other one(the unpopular opinions one) everyone seemed to handle it well, so.
Plus it's not like these sorts of statements haven't come up in other threads before, and nothing happened in any of those, so I don't see the big deal, really. |

Forgive me but I'm not gonna bother posting my least favorite series. It's too tiring to be negative ya know.
Uhhhh I doubt they 'didn't bother bringing the actors back'. It's clear they were driven into corner. At the time Toei didn't have enough money or influence or whatever to secure that many actors, keep in mind Decade is what ultimately caused crossovers and returns to be normalized. Second, they wanted to bring Kuuga back but Joe Odagiri ain't gonna come back, so they had to settle the idea of AU Riders. Could Shinji Kido or Kagami Arata come back? Definitely but a lot of AU Riders have interesting themes. They may be a hit and miss, but I love the idea of Ryuki Riders being lawyers, Blade Riders being employees with ranking system, etc. Plus are we forgetting that the Hibiki world is very neaely identical, it's just Asumu and Hibiki are different? Although some like the Blade one were enjoyable the majority of the alternate rider stories were just bad in my book. You can't really claim Decade is up there with the greats when they didn't even attempt to get the actors back in a show that kind of relied on tribute episodes, I mean there's trying a new story and then there's just laziness. I was hoping for something like what Zi-O eventually was and we got ''fanfiction on television''. Plus if the Netflix Ultraman is anime it kind of shouldn't be included in this topic by default!
I do agree that this is an overly negative topic though, I mean while Power Rangers has made some of it's worst shows in the last 15 years if you're talking about toku not in English, Japanese or other, it's really harder to judge with the same outlook. |

The ones that I can think on the top of my head in no real order:
Kamen Rider Ghost Ninninger Kamen Rider Kiva Go-onger Kamen Rider Drive Carranger Super Star Fleet Sazer-X Ultraman 80 I didn't hate Decade as most people did. At least it was short and ended quickly. Decade follows the formula of a Sour Patch Kid. Sour, sweet, gone. |
I don't know what you guys are saying this topic is too negative for. This Decade discussion thread is going great so far!

Tsukasa strikes me as the type of guy who'd choose Hero and constantly use nothing but down-b

I suppose Carranger isn't laugh out loud funny, it is quite Japanese humour in the show and humour is something that doesn't go across different places well but for me, I thought compared to Go-Onger it was at least fairly decent.
|
Just because it's meant to be laugh out loud funny does not mean it can't be bad. The humor can be funny at times while most of it is cringy. The show gives me a headache when watching it. It's also better than PR: Turbo, but that is not a very high bar.
|
Also humor is incredibly subjective so what one person finds funny another main find straight up painful.

5. Kamen Rider Faiz for being what happens when these shows take themeselves WAY TOO seriously, EVERYONE but Kiba/Yuka's an asshole and Yuka dies and Kiba turns into an idiot and turns evil after that and the ending felt horribly rushed
4. Toquger might as well be the opposite problem (Even if it had a few serious moments here and there) complete with an idiot Red who gets WAY too much screentime 3. Kamen Rider Ghost ok the first 15 or so episodes other than Takeru being a crybaby are actually good and even then until Greatful debuts it's not that bad I mean it's not as good as Drive(IMO the most underatted Rider series good show just had the rotten luck of following Gaim) let alone Gaim(Best toku show IMO) after that though pretty much everything is filler until the last 5 episodes Alan's good until he becomes a jobber, Takeru becomes such a Gary Stu to the point where you almost wish he was still a crybaby since he at least had personality he had a urgency since he had a time limit on how long he could come back to life it felt like he had to make s--t happen, His victories against stronger opponents actually felt earned instead of them just happening because of a stupidly OP Mid season upgrade and then an ultimate form that let's him do whatever he wants the minnute a villain that's op enough to the point where Greatful/Deep Specter aren't strong enough shows up, Also do I even need to mention how many times he dies(I find it hilarious we crticize Ghost for doing this but in the next show Kuroto aka the most popular character from the show following this died 100 times on screen tbf I think it's a difference in meaning in the story/tone when Takeru dies your supposed to take it seriously most of Kuroto's deaths you aren't) Villains sucked ass Adel's EASILY the worst main villain the franchise his goals make no sense how he's defeated it was basically the MARTHA scene from Batman vs Superman, Makoto literally does nothing but get his ass kicked after that too other than when Deep Specter shows up and then not long after that back to being the MOTW's Punching bag along with Alan(who deserved SO MUCH better IMO). It was blatantly obvious in this show more than any other I've seen in Toku the main writer didn't know what to do with certain characters/plot threads 2. Kyrouyuger, plot was predictable and bland/Too much red being a jackass 1. Ninninger if there was an order this would be at the bottom this show pretty much killed any interest I've had in Sentai it's every problem I had with Kyroyuger/Toquger amped to 11 it showed me the higher ups don't care they just want to make the same show every year (they LEGIT THREW KYROYUGER INTO A RECYCLING BIN BUT CHANGED IT SO THEY USE SWORDS INSTEAD OF GUNS LAST YEAR) on the other hand Kamen Rider is willing to try new things, Really the only Sentai shows I have ANY interest in after Ninnin are Zyuoger and LuPat, I'm told Zyuohger avoids MANY of modern Sentai's pitfalls and LuPat at least tries new things I tried Kyuuranger but 2 words killed my interest YOSHA LUCKY ok not just that but a few other things, what's the point of having a team of 9 if we can only have 5 of them out at a time/separate them constantly. tbf I'm told the second half has Lucky dial down on the idiot red trope.(basically after the unholy 3 whenever I see an idiot Red I'm like NOPE hell the obnoxious idiot hero trope is starting to spread over into Kamen Rider with Zi-O /Zero One) |

am I allowed to mention American Tokusatsu shows I mean from a techincal standpoint none of them other than In Space, Lost Galaxy, Time Force, Kamen Rider Dragon Knight, are RPM are any good and even then Dragon Knight is just sorta okayish sucks 4kids did jack s--t with advertising it, though tbf I SHUDDERwhenever I try to think how Saban's takes on Wizard(no denying it's a dark show)/Gaim/Drive/Ex-Aid(Gaim and Ex-Aid are EXTREMELY DARK shows and my 2 favorite Rider series, and I actually like Drive so I don't want to see it butchered would have turned out) cause if so Super Megaforce is an EASY #1(I forgot about it and for good reason too until this thread) (also despite not seeing it want to mention Masked Rider for COMPLETELY Disrespecting Ishinamori)
