Lol the comments are filled with people defending that Ultraman is not a Way Big ripoff.

It's strange to me that there are people in this world who have never seen the character of Ultraman. Globally, he must be right up there with Superman and Spiderman in terms of presence.

I suspect those comments are over responding to a handful few trolls...

Yeah I suspect it's trolling. I'd understand if western kids wouldn't know about Ultraman, but for people who are familiar pop culture, Ultraman is extremely iconic, it'll be like not knowing Darth Vader.... Or Spock to a lesser extent I guess?

I hope the series sell well so that Marvel might collaborate with Tsuburaya to make a full series.

Actually no, Ultraman is not as iconic as you would think.
I know a lot of people who know Bioman and Winspector but have no clue about what Ultraman is...

I think how well known Ultraman is is being vastly overestimated here; he's certainly nowhere near on par with Batman or Darth Vader. I'm afraid the biggest Toku exposure western pop culture has is still that time in the 90s a bunch of teenagers with attitude threw on some diamond dinosaur suits.

In France we had Bioman dubbed...it was in the 80s...

You forgot the virtual reality troopers who has an annoying talking dog, a certain prince who talks to insects by screeching while taking care of his bionic furby and fights his uncle to regain the throne, and those kids who become metallic insect robot thingys thanks to a genie who wears clothes stolen from Prince and Earth,Wind & Fire's wardrobe department.

I would say Godzilla is the most recognizable Toku worldwide.

Ho yeah it was. We even had a french comedian playing a character in Bioman.

Bioman was really big in the 80s.
We still have Bernard Minet the french opening singer in conventions.

Space Sheriff Shaider was super popular in the Philippines.

Janperson was big in Brazil.

Still though it's hard to imagine a part of the world that doesn't know Ultraman, considering that I live in in Asia and Ultraman is the Superman of Asia.

Black too. But they didn't go on to show Black RX so if you were a child then, you were in for a cliffhanger.

The top 3 toku back then was Bioman, Shaider and KR Black. After that, they mostly showed Sentai after (Maskman, Fiveman, Jetman etc). Gavan was shown years after Shaider and Sharivan wasn't even on TV.

Everyone in Phillipines knows Kuya Robert is their idol.

The fact that you live in Asia might explain why Ultraman is so "big" to you.
I mean, we have our heroes in Europe too, but I think that none of you might know them as they are not on the same scale as the super heroes from american comic books and heroes from Tokus...

I mean, if someone from Asia told me that they don't know who is Lucky Luke, Asterix or even Tintin, I would find that totally normal.

That makes total sense! Out of those I only know Tintin.

Even if Ultraman wasn't super popular here, I can't help but laugh at the people saying stuff like "you know ultraman but not way big!?" Like...umm...yes? Why would anybody who isn't a fan of Ben 10 know that character?

Anyways, the comic looks pretty awesome but I kind of hate collecting comics. Oh well.
