Gorenger Manga to receive English release
|
... there's a Goranger manga?!
Well, this is awesome! I was thinking the other week about how weird it was that despite Super Sentai having the biggest western presence of the big three Toku due to Power Rangers, it doesn't have its original work officially subbed in English... yet both Kamen Rider and Ultraman do. So this is, kind of a step in that direction! |
Well...this was unexpected.
|
I almost posted this lol. I hope we get the Kamen Rider manga next.

What else has Seven Seas done? Suppose this isn't that surprising. Hard-to-find Transformers Manga have been released by Viz, so I can't say I'm overly astonished. All that was impossible to obtain is suddenly obtainable! The thing this makes me wonder about is whether that rumor is true about Hasbro and Toei! The idea of pushing Sentai in a non-PR context isn't new, but it could be inferred that Toei is getting into the business of directly marketing Sentai to the West. The only thing that could hurt that assumption is whether Toei was even involved with this deal or if Seven Seas made the deal with Ishinomori's family/estate. |
I do hope this means we see Shout Factory's Sentai releases continue, especially with that same "Before Power Rangers, there was..." thing at the top. And hopefully at a higher quality this time.
|
This is definitely unexpected.
I'll buy it for sure since I consider this a piece of Sentai history and getting it officially licensed I'm pretty sure no one ever conceived happening at any point. |

That "Before Power Rangers There Was" tagline is likely going to be the marketing standard, and does give the vibe that SHOUT! and Hasbro will have an association for this very reason. The deal with Hasbro and Saban meant that SHOUT! had to slow things down. The sheer and absolute irony would be if the release of this manga was to tease us regarding an official Gorenger series release by SHOUT!, but that's idle speculation right now. Original Kamen Rider and Ultraman have received official releases, why not Gorenger? |
If hasbro is a part of getting dvds out now. Then may be they can get the rest of the Transformers & G.i. Joe cartoons out on dvd. There are 5 Transformers series that need dvd set & 2 for G.i. Joe.

Nice! Seven Seas seems to pick up a lot of really niche but interesting mangas for western release.

This revelation makes me glad like you would not believe
|
So I have this pre-ordered, and I'm anxiously awaiting its release by wondering what kind of treatment it will get. I assume it will be like other Seven Seas hardcover books, but as I don't own any of them, I'm not entirely sure what they're like. Does anybody know? How big is it? What kind of paper quality? Do they have sections of color pages?

I found it, and I wasn't even looking for it today!
About $24.99 at Books-A-Million, which isn't overly egregious. A little odd to see "Ishinomori" and "Power Rangers" in the same sentence! Also never expected to see "Super Sentai" on a BAM price tag! |
Is there a reason why the "no" in Ishinomori's name italicized?
Like, I know that it was originally Ishimori before he changed it in the 80's, but what's the reason for that manga cover? |

There is a specific email in the back to ask questions, so I might utilize that and see if I get a reaction. |

Also worth noting that he added the Katakana character for "no" to his name, giving it a slightly different meaning than the Hiragana, which would be lost just by looking at Ishinomori in plain English. |
Man this is cool to see... I hope I get to find it in the UK soon
|
Now that this is out hopefully this gets Shout Factory to start releasing more Sentai DVDs including more Pre-Zyu seasons

It is interesting how their suits are more unified especially the chevrons being the same color.
