Kamen Rider Saber Episode 14- "These Feelings Dwell In The Sword!" Discussion
Touma's new powers have defeated Caliber, but Kento has apparently been lost. How will the Sword of Logos proceed against the Megid?

Huh, you know the comments before about King Lion looking similar to Rintaro's Wonder Combo when we first saw it are sorta addressed now. At least that's the way I feel.
Because the blank book they had was basically fed the data from Tenkuu no Pegasus, Lion Senki, and Peter Fantasista. And the King part finally makes sense because King of Arthur was also used in the data gathering. |
Saber is really starting to feel like a 25-episode show with how "final" everything feels.
Anyway, I was expecting Touma to pull out Dragonic Knight anywhere in the episode but it was neat to see he kept Dragon Alangina. Nice too see that form actually be real too, despite it missing the helmet addition tho. Next episode is gonna be a treat too to see Touma cycle between all of his current forms against Calibur. Dragon Arthur, Crimson Dragon, and then finally Dragonic knight. Edit: forgot one more thing that I loved in this episode that we never saw with Zero-One last year! Touma kept chasing Cailbur's ass throughout the episode. In Zero-One, once the fight was over, either side would just de transform or escape with the protagonist just watching and leave instead of chasing after. |

Mei dancing in the back when Blades turns Dai Senki was interesting/amusing to say the least.

I like the use of Dragon Alangina, that was real cool, getting to duel wield Rekka and Ikazuchi like that. Though a little miffed that they didn't use the Alangina mask and it was just Saber's regular helmet.

Wow the toy shilling in this episode feels the most restrained. Which is ironic since Ithink this episode has the most amount of forms used in it. For starters Dragonic Knight isn't even used at all! That the most shocking part since whenever a new form or Rider debuts for the next couple of weeks that basically all that will be seen used. Yet here we spend more time with using older items that have been acmulated over the last 14 episodes. Heck King Lion was basically in the background for the entire episode despite being it's debut.
Honestly just a really fantastic action packed episode. Ishida really brought his A game using all of Saber strengths with the multi Rider team working together, using each others auxilary powers, while also demonstrating each Riders unique abilities. |
I hope Rintaro and Mei get their happy ending after all is said and done. It would be nice to see a clear cannon romance at the forefront of a Kamen Rider season.
King Lion at first gave me Gatack vibes but then it went and transformed. Neat. I wonder if Saber is gonna be one of those seasons with a significantly different second half like Gaim. |
I honestly really enjoyed all the reusing of old books this episode, with everyone tagging in and out.
Saber Dragon Alangina was a very nice surprise that did not get spoiled by magazine scans or next episode previews. The most we had seen was Saber base form wielding both Rekka and Ikazuchi. So it was really cool to see him bust out a Wonder Combo via Alangina to start things off. It's also just nice to see even Kento's books being used as finisher boosters. It's something I hope continues, even if we don't get form/arm swapping that we at least keep getting them to use them as finisher augmentations. Next week also looks really cool since it seems like we're getting an escalation battle via Saber and Calibur, with Dragon Arthur, Crimson Dragon and Dragonic Knight all getting the focus from previews. Oh and also some more shedding light on the past too! Glad to see we seem to be cracking that whole thing open right away. |
Too bad using Alangina in the booster doesn't summon a blank-eyed Espada to fight alongside Saber!
|
They should continued to film the "spinoff". The past two weeks isn't a prequel, but more like an extended alternate cut/deleted scenes that didnt make it to the actual episode like moments with espada, kenzan, and mei. Maybe they'll do it again for bluray .

Now I wonder if the Rintaro part could be focused on all the moments he had alone with Mei until now to develop the relationship (the ep where Dezast surprised them and he tried his luck on the lottery thing, then when Rintaro fought Zooous etc...) |

Alright, first things first, it's finally happened -- I noticed Gekido flopping around like a wet noodle when Buster is using it. It's utterly hilarious, and I also might never be able to take Buster seriously again. So that'll be weighing on my mind for the next bit.
The actual episode though, oh man did I love this one; easily surpasses last week for me. I might be hugely biased just because it does the thing I want to see with the toys every season. If you're going to have a million forms, it's okay to HAVE a million forms. Reading the thread, it seems I don't need to point this out to anyone, but it'd be completely expected for Touma to just stomp on everything with Dragonic Knight almost exclusively for the next 4~12 episodes. I was at least expecting it to show up in this one. But instead, the show does this really cool thing that's pulled straight from the sort of chivalrous knight fantasy archetypes Saber is modeled after, which is that all of Espada's fellow swordsmen treat his gear like it's a part of him; precious mementos to be wielded in reprisal against the vile foes who struck down their comrade. The end result is a bunch of really interesting action scenes where the use of the toys synchs up with and enhances the emotional throughline. Dragon Alangina especially was just awesome to see, and since it came directly after Saber got a power up, it gives me hope the show will find an excuse to one day give us the main trio's books getting used together in some suitably epic moment down the line. The episode pulled off something even I don't think Saber always does too well, which is being as fast as it is without ever feeling too hard to follow. It swims from beat to beat super naturally, and all the form changes are used almost like punctuation, refocusing the narrative at each new turn. King Lion Dai Senki's debut came off as infinitely cooler to me than Dragonic Knight's as a result. It could be because Blades is kinda my favorite Rider in the show at this point; maybe it's because that suit and its transformation jingle turned out to be pretty sweet; maybe it's because Mei's cheerleading that I'm sure looked like pointless filler to some people was a fun way to reinforce her crush on Rintarou... it could be a lotta things! For a lot less screentime than Touma's new form got, it made at least as much of an impact, I thought. As always: far from some perfect, defining episode of Kamen Rider, but extremely entertaining throughout. Saber is the kinda show where I get done with an episode and just want it to be next week already. |
So, what is the possibility that the big bads, where originally riders/swordsmen, but wielding the swords eventually takes away your humanity ?
Well, I still wonder if the reveal of the "truth" will actually cause a rider war to happen, or flat out despair. Maybe they are all inhabitants of a story. Either way, I think the odds of the sword of logos being the actual bad guys is up there. |

Okay, I loved how this episode used the WRBs. I like when collectables are passed around between riders instead of being used by only one, and I like when they have meaning in the story beyond "new toy with new powers," so treating Kento's books as precious mementos and using them to avenge him is perfect. Buster, Kenzan and Slash swapping books was also pretty neat.
Despite not getting as much focus as I expected, King Lion Daisenki was also very cool. I was prepared for its lion form to just be silly, but the roar Rintaro made before changing really sold it for me, and it was just as epic as, well, as epic as a knight turning into a lion should be! And I just noticed how even though they used CGI for the lion form, the humanoid suit is designed to look like it transforms, like with those claws folded back along the arms. Nice attention to detail there. Also, I'm struck by just how much of each Saber episode is spent on fight scenes. Remember how in Zero-One, a lot of the plot was just the characters talking or taking action outside of combat, interrupted by the episode's obligatory fight scene? Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but sometimes it got taken to an annoying extent. But with Saber it's the other way around, I feel like they only do non-combat scenes for plot points that couldn't possibly happen in battle, everything else is a fight scene. Zero-One riders calmly discuss their ideals in an office, Saber riders shout them over the clash of swords! |
