Kamen Rider Buster
 

So GenmCorp has translated the first chapter of Buster Prequel manga. And I gotta say I think the artwork is neat. Not much but it's cool to finally see Ogami wife and see how he was in compairson to the guy he is now. I get the feeling the previous Buster is going to die at some point. Also intreasting to note that Ogami already knew what a Kamen Rider was.

I am glad that our origin story for Ogami is basically "We need a delinquent action romcom manga" and it works so well.

I enjoyed it a lot. I also find it funny how our OG Buster is named Mr. Kame.

Incoming excitable comment from someone who usually only posts mean stuff about Saber: I adore this! I mean, I'm obviously biased, I really like Buster, I really like grumpy old men Riders by default, and whilst I very much have my own ideas about Oogami's backstory, I absolutely, unshakeably love this in its tone, its story, and its style.

I can live with my dislike of certain decisions made in regards to Saber knowing that this comic exists in the world.

I maaaay actually like this manga a little more than Saber itself, as a Saber fan? I mean only one chapter in so far, but I like the worldbuilding and storytelling quite a bit. I guess it might also be because it's a much more unique setting than Rider usually does (a setting that's A) a high school and B) not the modern day have only been done once each, and not at the same time). It's just a really cool, different type of story than we usually get from Rider!

One chapter and its already more entertaining than the first 18 episodes of Kamen Rider Saber.

I'm just blown away by how they made Saber's mooks, which in the show might as well not even exist, seem like terrifying monsters. Maybe it's just because we're seeing them from the perspective of a civilian (for now), but they have more menace here than most KR mooks do in the shows!

I really like that the previous Buster was a mild-mannered teacher, Mr. Kame is a neat contrast both to Ryo and to the Buster suit. I assume at some point he'll die or retire and Gekido will pss to Ryo, but I hope that won't happen too quickly, I want to see more of him as a swordsman! Like, Ryo's clearly the main character, but I kinda want Mr. Kame to be the series's main Rider/hero, with Ryo as more like the audience viewpoint. I'm not getting my hopes up, but that's what I'd like to see.

Ryo himself and Haruka both seem very generic, I feel like I've seen their characters and dynamic in a thousand other anime and manga already, but they're both likeable enough and I'm sure they'll get more interesting as the series goes on, unless the writers fumble it really badly.

Wow I'm super late with this.

So somebody else has picked up on Buster chapter 2 and I really like it nice to see Hayato in this. His and Oagmi relationship was only briefly touched upon the show so it nice to see that expanded. Also how old is Hayato anyway he's an grown adult yet Ogami still a teen.

Also Sora is able to lift Gekkido no problem yet Teenage Ogami can't lol just how strong is this kid?

OH! Excitement! I need to go searching for this as I have eagerly been awaiting further chapters!

Also chapter 3 is out and seems like we get to know the other swordsmen a bit. You know, before they got Dezast'd. Funnily enough, they specifically said Kamijou is single.

It funny how in 3 chapters we've had 3 different groups scanlating this manga lol.

It really nice to see the Past Sword Of Logos makes you apprciate how things are so similar yet so different.

Especially with how quickly Past Espada and Kenzan were killed in the Sword Of Logos Saga.

Was not expecting to wake up to the third chapter being translated. By a different person nonetheless.

I suppose people are getting on it now since I think they finally announced the last chapter like last week or something. Gonna have to check out Chapters 1 and 2 pretty soon.

Ryo and Haruka's relationship is adorable. I love the fact that Haruka is using Ryo's declaration that he'll protect her into disciplining him to become a better person hahaha. And considering how Ryo has the Sword of Logos' entire library at his disposal, I don't think he should too many problems studying (if he dedicates himself to it that is lol).

Just got finished reading both translated chapters, these chapters are real nice little things in showing how Ryo became Buster. Here's hoping to see the rest get translated.

I also love these dated references (Windows 2000, Sydney Olympics), their cute.

I'm so glad we got an exclusive Megid for this, the Spider Megid is real cool!

This was also a pretty emotional chapter, real glad that Ogami's wife pulled through in the end, was worried they were going to make it tragic.

But where is the wife in Saber?

Ryo's actor said that Ryo's wife works as a member of Sword of Logos or something during the events of the show. Whatever that means.

Shes probably fully occupied taking care of their kid while Ogami is off slamming sowrds into fools. Sword of Logos Daycare

Sounds like it could be good v-cinema material. Good opportunity to make callbacks to the manga if they do that. Pretty glad they didn't go with the dead wife/mom trope - our first real father figure of a Kamen Rider deserves better.

I will assume that she’s the one in charge of printing out “Sword of Logos” signs and taping them to the walls of their headquarters.

I really like this honestly, very fun spin-off. Makes me wish there was more Rider-manga like this, supplementary stories focusing on supporting characters.

The manga mentions she’s an administrator so she probably keeps that single one computer Daishinji constantly uses running.

I'm so glad they subvert the usual trope of the wife dying from childbirth and all that. Now if only she showed up in the show. Also we finally got a Spider monster in the Reiwa Era!

So chapter 5 got translated and I loved the bit about Ogami picking up Sora in the daycare and everybody freaking out about his giant sword. Especially since we see at one poont in the actual show him doing that and nobody bats an eye meaning in the years follosing everybody just got used to the giant sword.

Welp final chapter of this manga we got an awesome broken helmet shot and ends at the begning with Ryo debut in the show. Overall it nice companion piece to the show and really hammers home that all of tbe swrodsman really have thier own stories going on besides the main one we've been following. Hope to one day see his wife in live action too. (Maybe at the end of the show or maybe in a V-Cinema

That was a nice little Manga to act as a companion piece to the main story. It was nice to see Ogami's backstory presented like this.
