Kamen Rider W Manga Receives Anime Adaptation in 2022
 

Just announced! Kamen Rider returns to the anime field for the first time in decades with an adaptation of the Kamen Rider W ongoing manga. Planned to air Summer of next year.

Toei swinging outta nowhere with some of these recent reveals huh.

Now this is pretty cool. Translations for the manga (well, scanlations at least) stopped pretty quickly and I've long wished another group would pick it up. But this works too! Shame we have to wait a whole nother year for it though lol.

I was curious about the trademark way earlier we got, and then of course Funimation doing the eyes emoji at the 4.3 date post the 50th anniversary twitter did...

Really hoping it gets dubbed, as I'd be very interested in seeing who they have voice the cast. Hoping it's by a company other than FUNimation so we can have some variety.

Heck, this makes me even more hopeful that the Black manga and Kamen Rider Spirits will get anime adaptations in the future.

Official title is "Futo PI."

Fingers crossed we get a reissue on SHFSS W or get figures of his newer forms here like Fang Trigger.

Besides that, I do wonder on who're going to be the seiyuus for Shotaro and co. Most likely the Memory Of Heroez guys?

Considering those VAs did a great job, I'd be all for that.

I'm so glad the W spotlight continues. After Memory of Heroez I easily fell in love with the 2 in 1 rider all over again.

I wonder if we'll see Fang Trigger in the anime?

How many tricks do they have up their sleeves?

I was just thinking about this last week, wondering if they somehow decided to adapt Fuuto Detectives, because it was the most recent (besides Buster) Manga Rider adaption, but thought it unlikely because the original cast are busy in other things (though I'm aware they had replacements in games and such).

Still I'm very excited for this, having read some of the Manga, and seeing everyone hoping for Spirits or one of the other adaptions, or even a completely original work, the possibilities are endless.

A Spirits anime has long been a thing I'm shocked hasn't existed, but this is uh... wow, actually! This might be pretty freakin' good too!

(Also, just gonna throw out there that it would make my day if this turned out to be one of those manga adaptations that Yasuko Kobayashi does screenwriting for. Not because I expect her to be able to flex her skills here, or anything, but just for the sheer novelty factor of her adapting a comic that was already literally by Double's main writer.)

Oh hot damn, that's really exciting! I was following the manga closely up until Genm Corp seemingly stopped scanlating it, so I'm very eager to see the rest of that story.

I wonder if they'll use music from the live-action show for the opening? An anime version of the W-B-X opening would be fun.

Me too! I'm really counting on all W fans to support this show so its success will open the door for a SPIRITS anime, or, at the very least, an official translation of the comic. :p

I'd assume the Memory of Heroez W cast will be a possible choice for the roles considering how true to form their performances were. Shotarou, Philip, Ryu, Akiko and Eternal all sounded near-perfect to me.

This sounds awesome. I was digging the manga until the scanlations abruptly stopped, so an anime adaptation sounds like a great compromise.

I'd love if they could get the original actors back, but the MoH cast would be a suitable replacement.

Here's hoping that this does well, and they adapt the other Rider and hopefully Sentai manga.

Yeah, I kind of expect they'll go with the MoH VA's since it might be more practical than the live-action actors.

It would be cool if this got dubbed and air on Toonami. It can make Kamen Rider more well known to people in North America.

Do you think they might bring back Aya Kamiki and TAKUYA back for the Opening song?

I wonder if they'll include the insert songs. Wouldn't it be amazing if we got to hear "Extreme Dream" when they inevitably bring out Extreme? Or any of Accel's insert songs?
I hope Chris Hackney (Dimitri from Fire Emblem) shows up in the dub. He's a huge fan of Kamen Rider.

Well, look like we are getting a Kamen Rider anime show and who is better candidate to get anime treatment than Kamen Rider W.

I heard this anime is more appeal to adult than the original show and even though they may or may not get original cast for the anime, sorry but I will watching in anime to see how the English cast handling this show.

Well, they did air SSSS.Gridman on Toonami and I wouldn't be surprised if they air this one.

Hopefully this becomes popular enough to warrant more seasons. Only a first few chapters if the manga have been translated.

I'd love if they had a redone version of WBX as the theme song. Can't have W without that. W also had excellent insert music that I'd love to see return, especially "Truth."

Makes sense, the manga is more adult-oriented. More violent, and even a boobie or two IIRC.

That and a re-recorded Cyclone Effect would be great too. :rock:

not so hype about this compared to Black sun considering W is one of my least favorite but that's interesting for KR to have a legit fully produced anime.

This could be cool if it's actually decently animated. And not a horrible CG mess.

It's handled by Toei Animation studios. So, it most likely won't be CG, apart from maybe the vehicles. W's design doesn't strike me as something that needs to be CG unlike, say, Garo or the Ultraman manga.

I do wonder if they'll keep the "mature" tones of the manga. There's some bits of gore and some "interesting" content in the manga.

Now I am curious how the voice talent is gonna be like. If it is a mini series I could see them bringing Kiriyama and Suda to the cast but if they go with no alumni I hope the Kamen Radiranger duo, Kenichi Suzumura and Hiroshi Kamiya, plays the two detectives. Or, get Desast from Saber as Philip and Zenkai Vroon from Zenkaiger as Shotaro.

Given how some Tokusatsu-esque Anime tend to use CG for the suits, like Gatchaman Crowds, Blassreiter, the upcoming Shikizakura, and Garo, I wouldn't be too surprised, but given how "simple," for lack of a better term, W's suit is, he could probably be fully animated with everything else. Not that I have a problem with the Ultraman Manga's adaption's animation or anything.

The violence, yes. the bazonkers, maybe, maybe not.

Boy, these Rider Week announcements just aren’t doing it for me so far. I hope the Fuuto Detectives manga got better later on, since I didn’t really like what I read of it. I also am just not as much of an anime fans as I am a tokusatsu fan, but I know it is a lot more accessible for most people.

I’m just going to go sit in the sourpuss corner I guess. :p

But if this anime isn't a CGI mess, it wouldn't be true to its original show!

I mean, it's anime, so... being on Funimation is pretty darn good still. Will get plenty of exposure to anime fans.

I'm expecting W and the normal Dopants will probably be traditionally animated. They'll reserve the CGI for probably the bikes and the Finishers.
