Dang, this was not a kind week for Dezast. Denied of his imouto in the Specter x Blades TTFC, and then getting absolutely wrecked here. I feel really, really bad for him.

Desast put up a great fight in this episode. For a bad guy I like how far he come in Saber always had a mystery to what he was up to. Next episode looks bad for him I like to see him survive some how but idk hmmm.

We got some stuff explained via Tassel, stuff we've already known but he puts a little bit more depth. We also get some sort of backstory for him, he sat alone in the Wonder World despairing, looking for the last hope of which he saw in Touma. Quite sad. My favorite part of the scene is Kento and Yuri's reactions, whom are seen in the camera for way longer than the rest when Tassel was explaining. We all know Touma's gonna bypass his fate, but I do kind of hope we get an "Ankh" ending for Touma. Like, he still gets stuck in the Wonder World, but he makes a promise that he'll find a way to come back and "change his story".

Yuri clenches his teeth, I interpreted the scene as Yuri being mad at himself for sealing himself with Saikou for all those years, leaving his old friend alone. Kento doesn't say much, but he stares down in distress as well since he knows all this.

Dezast vs Storious + Charybdis! He puts up a great fight, felt like he would have won had Charybis not been there. There's not much meaning to Dezast using Falchion, but I feel like this was somewhat promoting the Specter x Blades thing since Falchion is a Ghost kitbash. Tho, I could put on my tinfoil hat and say Kyomu being wielded by Dezast has a some symbolism DEEPEST LORE meaning that he's rather "empty" by himself and he constantly goes out for something to fill that with "fun". Whether it be some sort little sister in Kanon or his antics with Ren.

Storious is 4/5 into his plan and next week, he'll finish the job. Next week is also directed by Kami so we're getting good stuff.

Well I guess that rules out Tassel being the next Calibur, since he can't physically manifest outside Wonder World. So from what I understand, Luna choosing Touma to obtain Wonder World's power isn't the first time this has happened. Her ancestor who Sophia's appearance was based on chose Tassel 2000 years ago, making this a parallel. But then, what would happen to Tassel if Touma accepts his destiny? And most importantly, is there a way for Touma to be together with both Luna and Kento? They made a promise!

Not sure what's Storious' motivation for wanting to see the end of stories, even if it does suit his name. Like, there must be some kind of backstory before his betrayal to explain that. Isaac already trolled with the "I don't have a tragic backstory, I'm just evil and bored" joke, so I was hoping Storious might be a little more complex with his feelings to give the Swordsmen a philosophical conflict they can bounce off.

Desast seems to be fatally wounded and wants to help Ren finish his character development as his last heroic act. I hope he finds a way to survive, but I really respect how despite his hedonistic exterior, he actually takes his life very seriously and wants to find a purpose that makes him feel important. He knows he doesn't have much time left, so what better time than now to let his life burn brightest? I haven't watched Blades x Specter yet, but I can already tell that Desast is going to be my favorite villain/antihero when this show is over. He's such an honorable and sympathetic character.

Oh and I guess Master Logos the First seems like a pretty good and likable guy so he's now my favorite Souma Keisuke character by default.

Definitely an episode of Saber that's moving a lot of pieces around... as if they aren't all doing that... but what I'm saying is this is one of those episodes that definitely feels distinctly like a transition more than anything.

You've got Storious carving out a slightly new role for himself as the final villain (barring any surprises), which was honestly one of the weaker parts of this one for me. His new look and silly extra evil voice are good fun and all, but despite digging into the show's backstory, I don't feel like I have a much better grasp on what his particular motivations are. There's some great stuff with him that hints at that -- I do really love his Maki from OOO style raving about the beauty of endings as he gleefully dances around while fighting Desast -- but it feels like it stops just a step or two short of being something greater. How upset I can be about that is mostly a question of whether or not those last couple steps happen over the next few episodes or not. Storious is a guy who loves his schemes, and I love him for that, so I'm happy to have him in this position, but just like the late Master, he's gotta prove to me there's a reason the show's big villain needs to be him specifically right now.

Granted, being the original root of basically all the conflict in the show's entire canon DOES give Storious an inherent claim to final boss status. The other big aspect of this episode is a big ol' infodump from Tassel, and just like I said about 28, Keiichi Hasegawa is a writer I sort of trust to make Deep Lore Exposition still feel entertaining in its own right. It's good to have these events that are fundamental to the story finally laid out so clearly going into the last stretch, letting us see those characters firsthand for a bit, and the fact that is specifically Tassel talking about this stuff adds a lot to those scenes. I've said before how neat it was that the show slowly started teasing his significance, and it's really all coming together right now. We get to see a lot of real emotion from him here as he describes his life story; it feels very personal, and you get a retroactive sense of just how and why he was so fascinated by Touma he needed to rave about him to the audience week after week. And I always love it when episodes of Saber make other episodes of Saber even better looking back, so you'd better believe I really enjoyed this part of the episode!

It's a bit harder to get into what's going on with the heroes in all this, as there's nothing too fresh or new there, but all that material is still very true to all of them. The usual big declarations of friendship; little things like Kento looking depressed all over again hearing about Touma disappearing; Ren desperately but unsuccessfully attempting to think hard about his life; all that stuff's fun, and so is the big party that opens this one.

The other really interesting thing in this episode is Desast, of course, whose low-key existential drama continues to be a highlight of the show, and this was a huge spotlight for it. The whole point of his character was to be a wildcard, but he was so wild that he defied even the expectations of what that usually means. At the start, it seemed like Desast would be a character to go around stirring up conflicts with anybody he saw in an effort to find excitement and purpose in life, but as the show went along, even that quickly became boring for him. So now we've gotten to this point where he's truly a character who has nothing, so like, of course he'd pick up the sword of literal nothingness to become a Kamen Rider. It's all presented so casually, but honestly, that just fits Desast all the better. It's not like some big Chaser redemption moment for the dude; it's just the latest stunt he's pulling to keep himself occupied for a bit. The only hint of true meaning Desast has to cling to is his friendship(?) with Ren, something so tenuous it comes with a question mark. They're teasing some big ending for him next week, but whatever happens, I've gotta say I'm seriously just unironically rooting for Desast's happiness at this point, and that's a testament to how engaging his character has been in his relatively sparse appearances.

I need to ask, like how long has it been since we've had a major character that's a pure monster like Desast?

Like most are either minor monster of the weeks, mindless, and in a lot of cases, are actually humanoid/human people transforming into monsters. And if they aren't humanoid/human to start, they'll have a disguise and such.

Because Desast may just be my favorite pure monster in the longest time. There's been something endearing watching him go through all the show just skulking around, and for what? He just wants to have fun, he wants to have freedom, like you can't really call him a villain. An Antagonist yes, but it's clear the dude was shackled in how much he could do. So seeing post first arc Desast sorta just skulk around, post on twitter/instagram (this is canon, I won't accept otherwise), and then slowly get involved when his best buddy ever is breaking off from the big organization. It's interesting to see because like, he has no ulterior motive clearly, he just wants to have fun, probably help Ren grow, and of course he'll become a temporary hero if it means keeping Storious from going full Doctor Maki.

Not much other to say this week other than it definitely felt like a transition episode as we start to fully set up the final battle. Glad to see Charybdis more recently too, it even got a handy new upgrade in the form of bulking out one arm and leg.

Everyone's talking about Desast, but for me the big character change up was Tassel. He went from being just a sideshow character to actually having some reasonable development. His crazy colorful ways were just a by-product of becoming a part of Wonder World. And for once he was direct with the how and why all of this is coming to pass. It's all making this very Gaim in nature, but without the complicated way that Gaim tried to resolve itself.

Also, it's interesting that as the Book of Creation was split, so was Luna, I'm interested in how that's gonna pan out.

Desast is going full Ankh now and I'm on board for that. But I wish they'd just resolve Ren's story since there's more than enough to fill the final episodes.

Also, anyone notice Touma is now using both the sword of Flame AND Xross Saber? I really like that whichever swordsmen are with him he's able to not just use their powers, but he can amp up theirs as well. It's a very cool effect that gives the other characters some actual time to show off.

They really did Desast dirty in this show. He had such an interesting character but they completely wasted it by just showing him moping around. His fights were great but way too few. They could've had a potential wild card to mix things up. I was really excited when he turned into the second Falchion but it seems like he's gonna die next week unfortunately. I hope they'll give him a good ending at least.

Wouldn't Ren be the third KR Falchion? I have a feeling that Ren will be told by Desast that he was to toughest swordsman he's ever faced Desast and will give the sword and book to Ren and he'll wear it for the remainder of the season.

It looks like everyone will riot if Desast's final moments does him no justice..

Unlikely. We've seen what'll basically be our final shot for the show of all our Swordsmen transformed and Ren's Seiken has Dezast's scarf attached to it. If there was any more to it, we'd know by now.

Storius is here to kill CHAOS.

Seriously, suddenly switching to a Dark Knight Batman voice is kind of lame, but then again, it seems to be more like a, "I'm tired of waiting around, now to get serious," or that's just what happens when you get the Omni Force book, I don't know, I kind of would have liked him to have a different personality than what we have here. Though, having an appetite for destruction and gushing about the end, makes him a little more fitting for Saber's final boss in a way.

Tassel, or Viktor, reveals stuff about the past, and sure enough, he IS DJ Sagara from Gaim, but then again, we all knew this guy had a reason for being here, and I'm happy about that. I kind of liked how Storius always seemed distant in those shots, while Zooous and Legiel seemed like buddies along with everyone else, which leads me to think that Storius warped them into joining his cause, which if done well, could make up for their early deaths.

Double Gekido and Suzune action! Great to see Buster and Slash get some action, even more Charybdis. And Dezast, while I loved seeing him trasform into Falchion, I kind of wished he got more spotlight in the show, since it looks like he's going to be kicking the bucket soon. Which is a shame, because I enjoyed him, and almost thought he might pull a Gremlin from Wizard.

I think initially Desast is gonna be the main villain of the show like Blood Stalk but the idea was scrapped maybe because of his voice actor busy doing another project? well,i dunno

It's interesting you bring up Gaim because I thought so too when it came to Kento's character. I thought it was very reminiscent of Mitchy when he learned "the truth" and became evil for a period of time.
