Could Hasbro rebuild one of the pre Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Series I series from the ground up if the rumor about Don Bros holds?

I don’t see it happening. The footage is too old and would look really out of place next to modern HD quality original scenes. The mechs have also aged really badly; Jetman was the last series where the mech suits were mostly flat boxes with painted details instead of dynamic three-dimensional shapes.

I think I saw someone make a fan film adaptation of Jetman a few years back, so there's always that!

I'm pretty sure what wentwood meant by "from the ground up" means not using any old footage and suits at all. Recreate everything from those shows in the modern day.

Hypothetically, yeah, I guess it might be possible and maybe even cool if they did it right. But that would also be ridiculously expensive, since they'd have to shoot new Megazord footage as well. Furthermore, some of those Sentai have already been established as Never Seen Before On Earth and the pre-Bioman suits don't look modern enough. So that only leaves Bioman, Liveman, Turboranger and Jetman as viable candidates for adaption. I doubt they'd try it though.

They wouldn’t be able to. Their contract is specifically “adapt every Sentai from Zyuranger onwards, unless a reason is given to do otherwise”

The spandex suits started with Dynaman, which means that "modern suits" would include: Dynaman, Bioman, Changeman, Flashman, Maskman, Liveman, Turboranger, Fiveman, Jetman.

I also believe in the potential incorporation of Gorenger, JAKQ, and Goggle V. The "Marvel Copyright" Trilogy gives me major pause.

I have always believed that Pre-Zyu could be used and I think widescreen movies are viable, but NOT an entire series worth for each entry! There just isn't enough money or time before it gets to be too much. The inevitable product glut is also a factor.

I believe in a mini-series or original movies to service the incorporation needs which would introduce multiple teams at various and strategic intervals. An anthological spinoff is also a good alternative.

In addition, any modern footage of a Pre-Zyu team such as the Gokai Change footage could be used to compensate for the need of available scenes.

Cloth suits and blocky robos are merely asthetic concerns which could be explained away. The idea is that these are older forms which haven't been seen often and aren't well understood.

I've also interpreted the whole "Powers not seen on this planet before!" as reflective towards four of the main Dairanger suits only (since Red was preoccupied at the time)! I envision a past in which Zordon and Alpha prepped for the change to the Thunderzords by inviting "RyuRanger" to Earth back during the time of Mighty Morphin'!

New footage would be necessary for all of this and Super Megaforce proved that they were willing to film Pre-Zyu suits, so there is precedent.

Incorporation can be done, but NOT by totally adaptating every episode of a particular series!

Deals can undergo renegotiation, and since you mentioned specifics, I wonder if Super Megaforce and the old ACG made less-than-subtle inclusions as a way to circumvent the rule. They originally weren't allowed to skip, right? That's been undone, so nothing is truly set in stone.

As a TV show? Most likely not. The closest we would probably get would be if Power Rangers does go 100% original footage and they decide to modernize one of the past Sentai seasons' designs.

In the comics? I could definitely see it happening. In fact, they're kinda already doing it with Power Rangers Universe right now. They've already bought the rights to use designs up until Ryusoulger, so I say why not get your money's worth of tell more stories of past Ranger teams. The biggest hurdles I could see is how Gorenger & J.A.K.Q. are co-owned with Ishinimori Productions, and of course the 3 Marvel shows, but that still leaves plenty of other teams.

If they went through the trouble of remaking old footage, why wouldn't they just make new, original suits?

Personally I loved seeing the older suits in HD. I thought they looked really cool, especially Flashman.

I inferred that Gosei was referring to Squadron as a whole. But taken literally, I guess you could make a case for Red Squadron. My theory is that they're Eltarian, due to sharing the same belt with MMPR White, which Zordon and Alpha created.

Same here! There were so many people complaining about New Powers, but I thought it was a unique concept. Explaining something unfamiliar is so much more creative than simply omitting it. Honestly, SMF is just underrated in general. I agree about Flashman as well, I think they really perfected the sci-fi aesthetic they were experimenting with in the 80s!

The pre-Bioman suits though, they look very dated and I don't think they would be as popular with the modern demographic.

It's a stretch theory on my part, but I think it's a valid enough retcon depending on the stories you could get out of it.

My fan-canon is that they're actually Galactabeasts who were turned into humans after encountering Lord Zedd in deep space! For example, the Red Dragon Thunderzord is a mechanical interpretation of the "Red Dragon Galactabeast" who now operates as "RyuuRanger". This does align with the Thunderzord packaging bios from back in the day in which the Red Dragon Thunderzord was stated to have been "born" on "Dragonia" if memory serves. The turned Galactabeasts have a somewhat strained relationship with the Lost Galaxy Galactabeasts and have fought alongside OG Magna Defender in the past. Someone might say that the inclusion of "new" Galactabeasts violates the pages of the Galaxy Book, but it's possible that the Kendrix didn't reach that far in the book or she did and we just didn't see it or the book didn't include everything. As for the potential of a theoretical "White Tiger Galactabeast", I'd say that this was a Galactabeast who didn't fair as well, but some of its power was used to create the White Ranger, Saba, and the White Tigerzord. You could even argue that Saba carries the memory engrams of a theoretical "White Tiger Galactabeast"!

Also remember that the Dairanger tribute episode of Gokaiger was "translated" and used for casting call sheets when hiring Megaforce/Super Megaforce actors, and that RyuuRanger was referred to as "Ryan of the Star Force". Based on that, I surmise that "RyuuRanger" appeared on Earth to aid Zordon during Mighty Morphin' and encountered a kid who grew-up to assume the same form years later but prior to the events of Super Megaforce.

I also take note regarding how many Gorma Kaijin have a third eye or appear as a cyclops. Pair that with Zatsurigu/Yellzor who has a third chest eye and that he only appeared for a minute or two in Super Megaforce and you have the potential to imply that Yellzor fought the "Dairangers" once in the past. We never did see Yellzor fight Super Megaforce on-screen!

Like I said, the theory is a stretch on my part.

I had a similar idea, they could make original seasons based from these Pre-Zyu Sentais.

as for Kyu I had a Sailor Moon idea for that which April 1987 is Sailor Moon and Usagi is Sailor Serenity (Red and Blue respectively). I had a Shattered Grid stunt in mind for this. (Due to Hasbro skipping Kyu Ranger.) It would be similar to Super Mega Force with the all powers aspect. The Sailor Guardians get the Ranger powers. There were 10 Guardians counting Chubi Usa. 11 Rangers total like Kyu Ranger.

Because Super Megaforce used FiveYellow, the comics have used them in some such capacity when delving into the backstory for Psycho Green. The canonicity of the inclusion is somewhat suspect, but don't think that matters.

Well, my theory is now completely invalidated! Power Rangers Universe has officially dealt with the "Dairanger/Squadron Question"... AND THEN SOME!!!!!!
