Shout Factory Licenses Abaranger!
https://www.shoutfactory.com/product...rjnrid=gxwKoWw
Pre-orders are now live! Coming this November! |
Abaranger turns 20 on February 16, 2023.
|
Surprising to see it only two months after Fiveman! Wonder if that short a release window will be consistent or if it's because they just came back
|
This means Dekaranger onward should be back on the table.

I would binge that DVD set like I used to for Beast Wars/Machines! |
I'm curious what they will do with the music considering that Kenji Yamamoto help work on the show and he is known to steal other people's music.

Hopefully nothing as bad as Mill Creek's Tiga and no Take Me Higher |
I don't think Yamamoto's music will be touched. The only reason his work for DBZ Kai was erased was because it was currently airing when the news came out. His work on the original DBZ is still in new releases of that series, even though that was also proven to be plagiarized. Toei just isn't going to put in the time (and especially money) to replace the soundtrack of a nearly 20-year old Sentai.

I didn't expect this to happen. Very cool!
|
Guess things have come full circle. Abaranger was my first Sentai, so it'll be fun to revisit it!

At Shout's fastest, they released 5 series in a single year, 2018. Also looking at the release dates, the last 3 releases before the huge break were released 2 months apart, so 2019 probably was planning to have 6 releases. Worth noting that Fiveman and Abaranger are also only 2 months apart. That said, before 2018 it was 2 series per year, so it could always go back to that or they are just be releasing what was finished and that's it. We won't know until they tell us.
|
I'm glad this is still happening! Dekaranger soon maybe? I hope so!

I wish they move on to Blu-ray already
|
Like Heisei Ultra, I think they more or less can't do that until Boukenger
|
I'm assuming that this was another release they had almost complete before they halted their Sentai releases. Anyways, I'm looking forward to this, also I'm waiting to see if for Dekaranger they'll use the blu-rays, since if they're also doing them for Kuuga, Toei might let them use them for Dekaranger, even if the blu-ray is just an upscale.

Nice one since I'm half done with this. The problem is the movie before episode 16.
I just had a bit of a crazy thought. What if Shout is swapping back and forth between Pre MMPR 1 and post MMPR 1? In that case it will be Turbo Ranger Detective Ranger next up. Remember they did Jet Man before Hurri. Five man was after Hurri. If this switch back pattern holds we may get all 15 pre MMPR series on DVD. This could be why the Ranger shows were locked for the USA on You Tube. Home DVD library sets. |
Bioman is next.
|
Order placed and confirmed for Aba. First ever from Shout Factory. I had gotten the others on eBay.
Next for Five Man and Her Man in October. |
Her Man?
|
Five Man was the 14th series.
I came up with a theory for upcoming releases Detective Ranger and Magi are the final 2 series filmed in SD. Both will be likely released on DVD. If Blu Ray happens it will likely start with Bouken. Bouken was the first to be filmed in HD. Samurai was the first Power Rangers series filmed in HD. Operation Overdrive - RPM had to square up the footage. No problems up to Mystic Force. |
I've checked the release dates. The order was Zyruranger (2/17/15) through Timeranger (7/31/18), Jetman (9/25/18), Gaoranger (12/18/18), Hurricaneger (3/26/19), Fiveman (9/6/22), Abaranger (11/8/22). All dates taken from Shout's website. The pattern (if there is one) is two forward, one back, not alternating. Dekaranger would be next followed by Tubroranger and then Magiranger. Note that I said "if there is a pattern" because we've only had one full cycle so far to work with and it can change at any time.

That's the best I can come up with. My other thought was Hurricaneger, but that came out a few years ago. Quote:

Well the thing is if a series is made in SD Shout Factory may likely just release DVD only. It would depend if the series was filmed in HD.
I figured they might continue the trend of going backwards till the first series while moving forward with Power Rangers Era releases in order. Alternating between the two. I was thinking Turbo Ranger (#13) might be next. (Not Car Ranger or Power Rangers Turbo) then Deka (#28) Hurri (#26) was the last one released by Shout Factory. I hope they don't wait 3 years to release Deka. |

Dekaranger is the next series after Abaranger, so if we go by Blade Raider's pattern, it's likely the next one to get a release (if they continue). |

Also, to the people who have been keeping track of patterns, when would Gekiranger's potential release be? |

After the botched up job Space Patrol Delta did adapting Break and making Sam a ball of light for most of the second half I'm so buying the next series.
That was a disaster big time. They needed to make Sam human. That made me mad after I watched SPD on Shout Factory release. What a waste. I'll wait till they bring Deka over. Bye Bye Power Rangers. I should be done with Hurri in November. On Episode 17 of 51. I want to start Aba after I see Hurri 51. |

Note before I start: This is pure speculation from the available information. We do not have all the information and probably never will be be privy to such. This is a theory at best. Before the long break after Hurricaneger, the release dates had just gone from 3 months apart to 2 months apart. Fiveman and Abaranger are also releasing 2 months, so at maximum speed these releases would be 2 months apart or 6 series a year. With the pattern of two steps forward, one step back, the releases could look something like this: 2023: Dekaranger, Turboranger, Magiranger, Boukenger, Liveman, Gekiranger 2024: Go-Onger, Maskman, Shinkenger, Goseiger, Flashman, Gokaiger 2025: Go-Busters, Changeman, Kyoryuger, ToQger, Bioman, Ninninger 2026: Zyuohger, Dynaman, Kyuranger, Lupinranger VS Patranger, Goggle-V, Super Sentai Strongest Battle 2027: Ryusoulger, Kiramager, Sun Vulcan, Zenkaiger, Donbrothers, Denjiman 2028: Sentai 2023, Sentai 2024, Battle Fever J, Sentai 2025, Sentai 2026, JAKQ 2029: Sentai 2027, Sentai 2028, Gorenger. And at that point everything is released and current with Sentai 2029 airing. The speed can be adjusted by just moving them as needed. I honestly do not believe they will go this fast (though I hope they can). I could see something more like 4 or 5 a year or slower if if there's something we don't know about. Like I said, there's a lot behind the scenes stuff we'll probably never know. I don't think they'll go back to 2 a years unless it can't be helped because at that rate Gorenger would be in 2041. And for last time, this is speculation, a theory at best. For all we know Abaranger is the last release. Okay, I've rambled on enough. |
I was holding off on the retro sets till I got Aba. I can use winter 2022 - 2023 to catch up both up to Jet Man. I'm watching Galaxy Man - Hurri at present. I finished Zyu - Mega Ranger.

Here this twitter thread explains it pretty well. |

Granted, yeah, that's with them going at their absolute fastest, which, considering it's coming right after a long hiatus, I'm doubtful. Part of my drive for Gekiranger to get an official release is not only because it's my favorite, but because I'm so curious how they'll handle the Janisms :lol The prospect that we could have every Sentai season fully subbed for American audiences before the decade is over is insane. While I don't quite see that happening, it would be awesome. Also, while I understand that Strongest Battle tends to be listed separately, considering that it's only 4 episodes long, wouldn't it just make the most sense to add it to LuPat? |

I would rather have SD Blu-ray releases than DVD only because they fill up less space.

Also, I disagree that the older Ultraman looks nice on blu-ray. Ultra Q is nice, but Ultraman and Ultraseven are awful and full of compression artifacts everywhere. |
Shout Factory said they'd ship Aba close to release day so I have it on the 8th of November.
Would we see the other 13 retro sets pre MMPR 1? |
