Hurri USA Restoration Projcet
I've seen 19 episodes so far and the plan here is to recreate what Toei did in Japan by way of green screening in new English story footage to match what was filmed in Japan. (US doing the same scenes of course)
There are 51 episodes so new footage or dubbing would be needed to restore Ninja Storm to it's source version. I've seen a lot of cool episode plots that can be used. Thanks to Shout Factory the footage is there. |
What?
|
Well the plan here is to match the story footage as was done in
Japan. I saw the break down of how much Hurri footage Ninja Storm used and holy eewww. It was bad. Like the US was trying to sneak their own footage in. Like Mega Ranger Hurri was gutted to the core with morphed outfits , zords , monsters and Ranger gear and re built from scratch. This would retain any story element made. No changes to Hurri proper. |

So once again the plan is to take Power Rangers, remove anything original and replace it with the Sentai for no reason. This isn't even a creative writing project because there's nothing creative, new, thoughtful or original added in.
How is this better? How are you "restoring" anything? What's the point? |
You’re practically better off just simply doing a fanmade English dub of a Super Sentai season or two. Otherwise, you might as well as just simply watch Super Sentai.

I love the idea of "Restoring' stuff
as if there is anything to Restore in PR PR is an adaptation not a dub... You can totally Restore stuff in say Sailor moon because it had to be heavily edited for 1990s US Censorship laws and such. they were all just a hair too curvy and suggestive... and of course cant possibly expect kids or the voice actors to try and pronoucne names like Usagi, or Mamoru. (i always laugh that while dubs of the era tended to change first names the last names got left alone) MMPR is NOT ZYuranger the stories are very differnet there is notihng to be restoreed for MMPR cause there was notihng removed from MMPR unless we count anything that may of been ruined by all the glitter added for the 2010 remastered version. |
well the footage is already there. It's just a matter of redoing the Japanese story footage un changed with the US cast. Then it wouldn't be a dub. Power Rangers Samurai had kept the Japanese story with a few us scenes for the west. My idea would be do as was filmed in Japan.
Time has now passed and I think the US would be ready to see the story as was filmed in Japan. English dialog would be needed for the story footage. My project doesn't change what was filmed. |

There are those who don't like subs. |

I honestly don’t know why anyone would prefer Power Rangers (which, to me, is absolutely nothing but homogeneous “Saved By The Bell” dialogued garbage) to Sentai is beyond me. I see “Power Ranger” in anything and just move on to something with more substance, like Power Puff Girls

I would say Power Rangers have good middle seasons. A lot of people say there's a renaissance brewing right now, but to me it's more like trying to adapt the franchise to the new times. And by adapt, I mean make it commercially viable, not story-wise. |
Not exactly like Power Rangers.
Besides the west might be ready for Hurri and Aba given the plot for both. Not a dub either. If you don't need to change the source show then it shouldn't take as long. Xander from Mystic Force said they do do some scene matching. That's what I plan to do to leave Hurri and Aba as it is. The morphed footage is there. Just build us cast dong the source story footage around it. Having seen a nard load I figure you would need to match 17 minutes of story footage frame for frame with no changes from Toei's story footage. |

Are there issues story wise that arose from trying to force like 10 diverse stories into 1 narrative- Definitely. I mean Lost Galaxy is a great example of some of PR trying to keep things connected kinda biting itself in the rear. The story kind of falls apart big time. Oh its some huge number of light years away- somehow the space rangers just happen to visit terra venture? Despite them establishign that they were to far from earth to return or for any rescue crew to arrive- hell they had the Astro Megaship so how did the mega rangers get there? Once they stopped trying to connect everything so clearly it seemed to pick up.. of course there are always going to be ups and downs. As for the idea of scene matching- yes they do this from time to time. IN fact this was one of the things used to explain the poor quality of - was it megaforce or super megaforce. I know i read something about the show runner wanting to recreate scenes to match as perfectly as possible whic blew through a good deal of the budget- so while SMF gave us that lovely digital edit of the all red Gokai change in ep 1 or so... they were more or less forced to use the "new powers" because the budget to shoot new footage or edit stuff was just not there. And yes some people dont like subs- dubs are options of course hell i dont think i would of even given any Ultraman series a shot if it wasn't for the Fox Box Utlraman Tiga dub. And Iron Chef is a great show- its dub was fun, a bit stiff at times but still. But hell while stuff like TimeForce was good mostly being a 1:1 with TimeRanger. Samurai which was pretty close to a 1:1 with Shinkenger, well that just didn't work as well. And then theres the shows that go in a totally original direction- NinjaSteel was lets be real a poor exectuion i feel i do like the idea of the game show thing in fact Zyuohger kinda showed it could work even if they didnt televise it the idea was there. But Beast Morphers was pretty solid, as was RPM. In fact sometimes i've seen people complain about Go-Onger just being too goofy... RPM went for a much more serious tone, post apocalyptic theme when the source material is full of talking cartoon cars? |

Though I'm definitely aware there's seasons between those two eras that people like a lot and aren't like that at all, like SPD and Jungle Fury. But I definitely feel it isn't restricted to just MMPR :p |

That's with the footage issues as Bouken Ranger was filmed in HD. Not sure if that was the case with Jungle Fury. RPM might have had footage problems unless Toei made some SD stuff with re shoots. I saw a clip of RPM filming from Japan on You Tube.

All the Toei shows Zyu - Aba have been upscaled luckily as of now.
So once Bouken is released maybe fix some of that footage. Operation Overdrive was upscaled to 1:33 1 so maybe redo that footage possibly. |
I came up with the idea so that USA viewers could see the
Japanese stories and episodes as they were made in Japan. Power Rangers Dino Thunder Lost And Found In Translation had flushed out the exact problem with Japanese episode dubbing. The timing of English voice is off a half a second or so. The morphed fights are fine however. Over all plan in next post. |
When doing and English re filming nothing actually needs to be changed
and that's the over all plan. Target projects Dai Kaku Hurri Aba Deka Magi Bouken Geki Go On Shinken Gosei Gokai Go Busters To Qu Ger Zyu Oh Nin Kyu Lu Pat Kira Mage 1. English dialogue reshoot for story parts of the episodes 2. English Dubbing for Morphed and in the Zord fights. 3. Scene match Toei story footage with no change. This would allow to pick up the 4 skipped shows by Power Rangers Thanks to Shout we have English subbed up to Deka. |

That'd be like saying all Kamen Rider does is save bratty children from costumed monsters-of-the-week. The franchise has evolved since then. |
