Still waiting on a statement from the family, but word is getting out fast that Jason David Frank has died at age 49.

TMZ is pretty reputable when it comes to celebrity death reports, so this is sadly looking pretty real.

At first I saw him trending on Twitter and was like, "oh cool". But then I found out why and now I'm in an emotional limbo until I get some clarification on this from a credible source. Hope it's false.

Its unbelievable, last week Kevin Conroy and now JDF...

I...I'm just shocked. Honestly and genuinely shocked. I can barely even process this coming so soon after Kevin Conroy's death.*

Power Rangers was such a huge part of my childhood and shaping me as a person, watching season after season, but the saga of Tommy Oliver and his journey and how that impacted the history of the franchise always kept me engrossed and he was part of so many memorable moments of the franchise and seemed to love and care for the show and the fans so much.*

RIP Tommy. RIP Jason David Frank.

It's looking like it's official. TMZ is pretty spot on with reports of celebrity deaths. Cause of death is, sadly, suicide.

I saw this on Twitter last night before bed but it wasn’t confirmed yet. Really sucks to lose someone who I looked up to this much when I was a kid (despite the fact that he was apparently not that much older than me).

May the power protect him.

Oh my goodness, this is so awful! Hope Frank is at peace now. RIP.

It isn't that simple, though.

Man, this really sucks. And so young too, he was only a few years older than me.

Absolutely devastated right now.

Absolutely shocking. Felt numb at first and now just a wave of emotion has hit me. This sucks. RIP Jason David Frank.

Celebrity deaths are always strange for me. I very rarely feel the kind of impact others do, aside from a few- Carrie Fisher, Chester Bennington, and Chris Cornell all come to mind. And now him. And... I really can't explain how I feel about it because the man was a very complicated figure. He was simultaneously a representative of Power Rangers as a whole at its best, and also at its worst. Everyone here, myself included, has had thoughts on him ranging from The Greatest Ranger to That Showboating Jerk and everything in between and beyond.

But knowing he's gone, is... like a chunk of the night sky has gone out. Or say that you've spent years living on the same street, and there's this big house out on the corner, visible from just about everywhere near by. You don't know who, if anyone, lives in it, you don't know who owns it, but it's always just been there. And one day you leave that street, move away. And then, years later, you come back, and that big house is gone. You don't know how, or why, and none of that really matters because the fact is that it was there, and now it's not, and now your whole world feels empty because you remember so clearly that it was there.

That's where I'm at. The world just feels emptier now, however I felt about him. I just hope he's at peace now.

I c-can't believe this. Jason David Frank, the guy who played Tommy Oliver, dead by SUICIDE?

Especially being dead at 49. My dad is older than 49, so that's young.

But suicide. I mean, there has to be a reason. Were there ANY warning signs? Because this... this is sudden. For such a big celebrity to choose to end his own life, I mean, suicide has to have a reason. No one would simply kill themselves without a cause.

I don't even have much of a connection to the Power Rangers Franchise. This is coming from a fan of Super Sentai and Kamen Rider and not really a Ranger Fan. This is coming from a person who doesn't have a connection with Tommy Oliver. It is just shocking to hear that such a famous face who built so many people's childhoods as Tommy Oliver, the Mighty Morphin Green Ranger, a man who practically was the backbone of 90s Kids' Childhoods dies at 49 Years Old by suicide.

Oh geez.

The man never turned his back on the fans and the franchise. He embraced em both. I can’t imagine what he had to be going through to end it all. May he find peace.

Man it's so great seeing people pass judgment on others in spite of little to no confirmation about the circumstances of their personal lives beyond one account from someone who is most definitely biased against them, and that negates people feeling sadness about their death.

And by 'great' I mean it's fucking rude, especially when that whatever was happening in his personal life was hurting him enough for him to decide to commit suicide.

Tangent aside, this makes me really, really, depressed. First the creator of YGO died, then Kevin Conroy, and now JDF? Three of my biggest childhood idols are gone now in the same year, making 2022 a top contender for "my least favorite year" now.

No, you dishonor Thuy by talking trash about her friend and co-star like that and you don't deserve to call yourself an agent. Good people can do bad things and strong people can succumb to moments of weakness, so please stop holding people to impossible inhuman moral standards.

More and more it sounds like the suicide was driven by divorce. Apparently he's been battling depression for years. Not being included in the ranger reunion by Hasbro may also have factored into it. It's really hard to say, but it's a gut punch for sure. I was always hoping for a chance to meet him at a con but the timing/location never worked out sadly.
