Shout Factory Kamen Rider Ryuki and Dekaranger
https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Fi1wzaRX...png&name=small
Looks like unlike Sentai, Shout Factory gets the rights to the summer movies too. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Fi1wzx6X...png&name=small Lol the second pic on the bottem is from Power Rangers S.P.D hope they correct that later. |
Cool! Episode Final is a pleasant surprise. 13 Riders would have been nice as well, but that was always a long shot.
Sucks that Sentai is still stuck on DVD, but at least this is firm confirmation that we are now moving beyond the shows Shout had previously negotiated to release with Toei. |
YES! They avoided the apocalypse of releasing Turboranger!!
Also Ryuki was awesome! I don’t think they put the movie on shoutfactory streaming, so that’s something. Like, I watched some fansubs of that movie after I finished Ryuki on tokushoutsu. Surely I would not have done that if that film was on there. Right? |
And they're back to using the stock promotional posters for their Rider covers. I don't know why they didn't use that for Kuuga instead of the mess they went with.
Either way, cool! Dekaranger is no surprise, but it's really nice to see Ryuki so soon. |
Glad to see them releasing Episode Final and Dekaranger.
|
This is indeed great news if this is true. I would definitely be interested in how Shout Factory would translate the Episode Final movie since their work on the main Ryuki series is great. I am also pretty optimistic about the subs for Dekaranger having similar quality.

I've heard some mixed things about Shout Factory subs whrn they've started doing Sentai DVD's but ever since aquirring the OG 1971 Kamen Rider their subs have been consistantly amazing imo. I don't what happend in those intervening gap between Hurricanger and them getting Kamen Rider but I'm kind of glad in hindsight cause their stuff they've been putting out has been a serious gold standard. |
Woo hoo! Definitely picking both of these up.
As far as Shout's subs go, I find their Sentai subs range from "dicey" to "good", but their Rider subs are all superb. |
I think that can mostly be attributed to time. We can complain all we want about how few Kamen Rider series we've had between Tokushoutsu's launch and now, sure; but the reality is that subbing a 50-episode show takes a long time, especially if you want it done right. 2 months between Sentai series is... well, imagine your favourite subgroup doing that; you'd rightly consider that pretty insane and that there's no way good quality would escape that.
So... yeah, I'm pretty curious to see how their new Sentai releases have turned out. |
Super cool to see Episode Final included with Ryuki. I'm hoping atleast one movie is included with all of their Rider releases, if possible.

I'm glad that we are getting Ryuki sooner than later. I hope Agito, and W are next.
|
The problem was never that it was impossible to get the movies for either Sentai or Rider, it's that they were always a seperate license since those are under Toei's film department. For whatever reason, Shout feels it's profitable to pay more and jump through the hoops to get some Rider movies along with the TV series. Maybe since they don't have to go through Hasbro/eOne, they have extra money in the budget.

I think Agito has the very special TokuHD subtitles with all the fun (incorrect) spellings of words, like, ?Honshin!? and weird writing. Hopefully Shout Factory would clean up some of that garbage if they were to do a release. Maybe just retranslate the whole thing. But maybe they would not want to touch it since someone else already ruined it? Who knows. Here?s a question: when Shout gets to the proper HD era of sentai (it starts with Boukenger, right?) will they do blu ray releases or dvd? DVD could be licensor restriction to prevent reverse imports, but they don?t seem to care about Rider being on Bluray. Also hopefully they can get a bunch of sets out before PR or Hasbro or e one gets sold off to some creep. Not exactly sure what the rumor is with that potential sale, but we gotta strike while the iron?s hot here. Oh and to address a point brought up earlier, I believe the Fiveman translation was finished in 2019, and Abaranger was done sometime around 2020 or so. I don?t think Shout has been rushing the translations on these. Exciting times. I love Super Sentai! |
The movies are a different license, and Shout has said before that that makes them difficult to get. I imagine when these actually get announced it'll be alongside an announcement for Episode Final being streamed as well
|
Looks like I’m getting my first Sentai set.
|
Oooh! Ryuki!
Looking forward to this! Glad to see Rider slowly getting brought over here and more Sentai is always appreciated. *One step closer to Zenkaiger release. Hehehe.* |
Speaking of Ryuki, it's now available to pre-order on Amazon and it will be released on February 7th of the new year, apparently, and that the director's cut version of Episode Final will indeed be included. Make of it what you will.

Aaaaaaannnnnnnddddd Dekaranger is now available to pre-order on Shout Factory's website with the series being released on Valentines Day. Like I said, make of it what you will.

Thanks for the shout factory tip off. I did my duty and preordered both from shout factory.
Looks like they did not fix the Dekaranger cover either, right? I ain’t gonna complain though. I just want the discs. |
Fingers crossed for a Kamen Rider Dragon Knight Blu-ray.

Magi is the last one in SD so I'm curious to see what happens after Magi if Bouken will be a DVD release or Blu Ray as Bouken was done in HD if we get a Blu Ray release for it. If we do get Bouken on DVD it might be to cut costs to do Rider shows on Blu Ray. RPM was the last one for Power Rangers. Lions Gate did up to Super Ninja Steel on DVD.
Deka locked in for me on DVD. |

Looks like Shout is stealing fansubs again. Wouldn't be such a big deal if they were just honest about it. |
Who's been doing Shout's Kamen Rider releases and can they take over the Sentai stuff.
|
I've never been bothered by who subs.
I've seen subs that have made it come off as a Power Rangers episode in a lot of cases. I had seen Oh and didn't find too many problems with it. Sub aside what matters is we have Zyu to Deka state side in the USA so I'm not worried about it. Also no clock in the corner so two in favor of a Shout set. Why let a sub glitch spoil enjoying it? Give me a break. Besides the Aba sub turned out pretty solid. I'm with holding judgement till I see a few on my set. |

You are not SaruBrother Write posts, not poems Anyways, I'm not shocked about Shout doing this again. Their Sentai sets often reek of laziness. I'm sorry, but I don't care what licensing restrictions they have: releasing a DVD-only box set in 2023 is just unacceptable (and that's not even getting into the cover art using images from Power Rangers SPD, which I'm shocked Toei approved). Discotek is out here showing us how it's done; there just isn't an excuse for this anymore. |
I mean, not to defend Shout too hard since this is something that shouldn't be too ignored (but not too played up given the subber's response) but um, I feel like it's slightly ignorant to say things like "releasing DVD-only in XXXX" when there are legit reasons why DVD over Blu-Ray releases happen.
Sometimes a show just doesn't work in the Blu-Ray format, especially if there is not Blu-Ray release for it. So that's why early Heisei Ultraman was released the way it was on DVD. Now if you said "Why aren't they doing SD-BD" then I'd mostly agree. Mostly because there's still the issue of... Discotek seems to be the only media distributer that knows it exists and will use it. |

That's also ignoring that Dekaranger DOES have a blu-ray release. |
DVD releases for 90s - mid-00s releases are literally fine. The type of film they were captured on means that a DVD release will be just as high a quality as a Blu-Ray release (unless they do upscaling like in the Japanese Blu-Ray release of Tiga, which got a lot of backlash because it does not look good) for a smaller price. Now once they hit Boukenger onwards and the 80s, if they're still using DVD there that's an issue. But until then DVD is not just acceptable but straight up preferable

I watched Episode 01 today.
Things of note in the Shout Set 1. The bumpers before and after the episodes have been retained in Deka unlike previous sets. 2. In the Shout version under the logo it subs as Super Squadron Series. 3. The TV Asahi name is now seen at the end of the episode. The DVD on Deka cleaned up great. I'm not seeing too many problems with the video quality. Sometimes that can be an issue with 20 year old episodes. If these are new masters it's as if the episodes are newly minted. Toei must have cleaned the episodes up before release. Visually I'm happy with it. Regardless of what you guys think of the way Shout subbed Deka get it anyways. It may be enough to bring over Magi. I'll watch Deka myself as we got a USA set and that's enough for me. Bouken thoughts - They could do an upscale DVD for it. Most DVD players and TVs run 1080 so picture format not an issue. That's how Bouken was filmed so I feel like the transition to HD DVD will be seemless. I'm with holding judgement till I see an episode. |
