Pick some colors and I'll make a Sentai team
I really love making up new Sentai teams, it's the kind of thought experiment that just hits good spots in my brain. But I've noticed most of my ideas have the same color arrangement of Red, Blue, Yellow, Pink, Green for the core rangers, and I want to challenge myself to branch out more. So I thought it could be fun to invite y'all to pick sets of colors for me, and then I'll make up teams with those colors!
Any color that's been featured in Sentai before is fair game, including rare ones like Brown and Gray or variant shades like Cyan and Navy, and if you want you can even specify multiple rangers of the same color or "Other Color" heroes who don't fit any color classification. And while six rangers in total is the norm, I'll try any number from 3 to 12. I can't promise anything, but if I feel inspired enough by an idea, I might even try using a dollmaker or virtual lego program to make some concept art (sadly I lack confidence in my drawing skills)... Without further ado, pick me some colors! |
White, green, purple. And let there also be classic red and pink.
Good luck! |
Red , Pink , White , Orange , Violet , Gold for the 6th
|
Blue (center), Red, Yellow, Pink and Black for core. Silver for sixth. Good luck!

The upbeat cherry ninja, Meisai Pink! The steadfast pine ninja, Meisai Green! The elegant birch ninja, Meisai White! The noble wisteria ninja, Meisai Violet! Hidden guardians of the forest, Hayashi Sentai Meisaiger! If my translation is correct, the name means "Forest Team Camouflage-ger." Yes, it's ninjas again, but this time combined with a tree theme! I considered using just the tree theme by itself, but figured the ninja angle would make it easier for kids to get excited about XD The story is that long ago, a demon lord was sealed away deep in the forest, and a clan of ninja swore to protect that forest so that the seal wouldn't be broken. Now in the modern day, much of the forest has been replaced by a town, and the demon lord's followers see an opportunity to free him by spreading pollution and other evil-ness that weakens the forest. So it's up to the heirs of the ninja clan's five branches (pun totally intended) to protect their home! I wonder if it would be possible for their mecha to transform into trees without looking totally ridiculous... It could actually be pretty cool to show them hidden in the forest when not in use. |

Blazing fire, Houou Eagle! (red) Rising fire, Houou Condor! (orange) Dancing fire, Houou Kestrel! (pink) Smoky fire, Houou Owl! (violet) Sacred fire, Houou Miko! (white) Eternal fire, Houou Phoenix! (gold) Rising again from the ashes, Hitori Sentai Hououger! The name means "Firebird Team Phoenix-ger." The story begins when the Toshian (from 凍死 tōshi "freeze to death"), aliens from a world of cold and darkness, try to invade Earth to drain the "warmth" of joy, love and passion from humans. A phoenix, who happens to be worshiped as a Shinto god in the area the Toshian first arrive, fights to stop them... and is killed. As he dies, he passes his fire on to four humans he deems worthy, and entrusts the priestess who tended his shrine with teaching them to wield his power and leading them against the Toshian. He continues to aid the team as a spirit advisor, until he recovers enough to take physical form again (often human form, for filming convenience) as the gold ranger. |

For revenge/justice, Burai Red! For fortune, Burai Yellow! For glory, Burai Pink! For victory, Burai Black! For redemption, Burai Silver! Cutting our own path! Ronin Sentai Buraiger! The name means "Masterless Samurai Team Rogue-ger," and they're outlaws who fight against an evil dynasty that already rules the world, each has their own selfish reasons for fighting but they're still ultimately good people. Since you specified Blue in the center instead of the traditional Red, I figured it'd be fun to make a Sentai with a distinct anti-authoritarian bent, both in the overall setting and the team itself. Instead of Red being both the leader and the most central protagonist, those roles are split between Red and Blue, but I'm not sure which combination I like more: 1) Blue is the smart and philosophical leader, she doesn't hold formal authority but the others look to her for wisdom. Red is the protagonist and the newest member, a hotheaded rookie who needs to learn to let go of his rage before he can mature into a true hero (his role call starts as "revenge" but changes to "justice" after character development). 2) Blue is the protagonist and the most kindhearted member, she brings out the best in the others. Red is the determined and increasingly ruthless leader, who gradually falls to his rage until the rest of the team pull him back from the brink (his role call starts as "justice" but changes to "revenge" during the lowest part of his arc). In either case, Yellow insists she's just a mercenary but has a hidden heart of gold, Pink is constantly showing off both to stoke his own ego and to cheer up others, Black just wants a good fight but he can't stand people who bully those weaker than themselves, and Silver is initially a champion of the villain dynasty who tries to apprehend the Buraigers (with a solo role call "For rule of law, Samurai Silver!"), before realizing just how evil his masters are and switching sides. |

Hmm.. let’s see. The ultimate sentai: red, blue, yellow, green, pink, black, gold, silver, and the real leader (the last member to appear) has a unique white color that has the stripes of all the other team member colors (similar to jakq’s big one). Make it kewl and unique.

Koshi Blue, free wheelin'! Koshi Yellow, break through! Koshi Green, drive ya wild! Koshi Pink, street party! Koshi Shadow, don't blink! (black) Koshi Steel, revved up! (silver) / Koshi Steel Burn, fired up! (gold) Koshi TheFirst, leading the way! (white w/rainbow accents) To-me-ra-re-nai Sen-tai! Koshiger, at the speed of light! The name means "Unstoppable Team Photon-ger," and they're a team of racers in the Galaxy Prix, a marathon race across a hundred different planets, where the only rule is to win and the grand prize grants the champion any one wish they desire. Instead of one unified group of villains, the Koshigers have to face multiple rival teams who use underhanded methods and endanger civillians, collectively referred to as "Dark Road racers" while the Koshigers and other honorable competitors represent the Light Road. Similar to Boukenger, different Dark Road teams specialize in different kinds of villainy, with one using lots of footsoldiers, another making MotWs, a third using giants, etc. The core five are the main team, and they have three "sixth" rangers: Shadow is a former member who went rogue (and the final villain), Steel is the inventor who created their gear and only fights in emergencies, and TheFirst is Red's mentor who disappeared before the start of the series but returns later on before passing the torch to Red. Yes it's another car/racing team, but this time with an added theme of light and especially the speed of light, and instead of their mecha looking more-or-less like real cars (like in Turboranger, Carranger and Boonboomger), they have a much more futuristic style, while still being recognizable as what general kind of vehicle they are. These two bits of Transformers concept art are a good example of the aesthetic I have in mind: https://cdna.artstation.com/p/assets...jpg?1585958944https://cdna.artstation.com/p/assets...jpg?1585959033 |

Now let’s try something unique. 5 main members, all mainly gold. There is leader (gold with red accents), smart guy (gold with blue accents), twin girls (gold with yellow accents + gold with pink accents) and lastly strongman (gold with green accents). I think this will be unique.

Renkin Aqua! Renkin Ventus! Renkin Aether! Renkin Terra! Improve thyself and become as gold! Kogane Sentai Renkinger! The name means "Gold Team Alchemy-ger," so just be glad this isn't airing at the same time as Gotchard XD But don't worry, no collectable card monsters here! The story goes that a brilliant alchemist created a complete Philosopher's Stone, but her lab came under attack by monstrous homonculi commanded by her old rival, and the stone was shattered into five pieces which merged with five youths. Now, these five must master both alchemy and their own hearts to defend the world from the rival alchemist and his sinister experiments! Ignis is delivery boy who just happened to be there when the lab was attacked, Aqua and Ventus are the good alchemist's two apprentices, Aether is a clone Ventus made of herself (since you specified them being twins), and Terra is the alchemist's son who's more interested in sports. Each also has a major flaw they need to overcome to improve themselves: Ignis tends to act without thinking, Aqua refuses to accept less than perfection, Ventus feels a constant need to impress people, Aether puts others first and neglects herself, and Terra doesn't trust his own intelligence. |
I have something that might put an interesting spin on an old classic: 6 main members, each with ice-blue armour pieces. The lineup is Purple, Orange, Red, Cyan, Brown and Yellow. And their motif is Prehistoric Megafauna.

Dire wolf howl, Yaju Violet! Cave bear strength, Yaju Orange! Ground sloth patience, Yaju Brown! Woolly rhino charge, Yaju Yellow! Mammoth wisdom, Yaju IceBlue! Freezing evil in its tracks, Hyogaki Sentai Yajuman! The name means "Ice Age Team Beastman," and the first five are university students from the modern age while IceBlue is a warrior-princess from an ancient civilization. The story starts with a strange old man mysteriously appearing in a prestigious university. He claims to be a shaman from an ancient tribe who was preserved in ice, and says that in prehistoric times, Earth was ruled by an empire of dinosaur-like humanoids called Yokuatsaur (from "yokuatsu" meaning oppression) who enslaved early humans before being overthrown and turned into fossils. He warns that modern society's reckless use of fossil fuels has disturbed the vengeful spirits of the Yokuatsaur, but most people dismiss his claims as either a hoax or insanity. However, when the ghost of a Yokuatsaur awakens inside a vehicle at a nearby construction site, turning it into a monstrous fusion of machine and undead dinosaur, the shaman gathers five students who are willing to trust him, and teaches them a ritual used by ancient warriors to call on the spirits of beasts, becoming superpowered heroes! Eventually, they also rescue a warrior-princess from the ancient tribe who the Yokuatsaur froze to imprison her, and she joins the team while slowly adjusting to the modern world. You wanted a spin on the classic prehistoric life, so I decided to give the dinosaur theme to the villains for a change (the big bad is based on a tyrannosaurus rex, naturally) while the heroes are themed on ancient mammals and have a caveman-inspired aesthetic, with the ice-blue armor evoking the Ice Age. Other Ice Age creatures like glyptodon (basically a giant armadillo with a spiky club for a tail) would be auxiliary mecha. |
Ok now let's do an opposite to what I already have before. Instead of gold, it's black. So Black with red accent, Black with blue accent, Black with yellow accent, Black with pink accent and Black with green accent. They do fight evil in the form of alien monsters trying to invade and destroy earth but they aren't exactly "nice" people either; they do this (fighting against evil) only because they were told to anyway. In truth they wouldn't have done so if not told to. They are more dark and rogue in theme. Kinda anti-hero in a sense.

Uragi Blue! Locked on target. Uragi Yellow! ME ANGRY! Uragi Pink! Hehe, slice 'em up~ Uragi Green! I miss my lab... Gokuhi Sentai Uragiranger! This planet is ours! The name means "Top Secret Team Betrayal-ranger" and they're actually members of the same alien invasion they're fighting against, Red is even one of the generals! But he wants to overthrow their leader and seize power for himself (think Starscream), so he made a deal with the Earthling government agency that monitors and tries to defend against alien threats: He and four of his trusted(ish) co-conspirators will fight to defend Earth from the invaders, in exchange for the agency providing them with tech, intel, a secret base, human disguises, and other support in their plot to take down the other generals and the leader. The arrangement has to be kept top-secret from both the alien invaders (to keep them from finding the traitors in their ranks) and the Earthling public (to keep them from learning their "heroes" aren't actually on their side), so the Uragirangers and their equipment have a spy/Men in Black sort of aesthetic, including the primarily black suits. Meanwhile, the aliens are based on UFOs, cryptids, etc. similar to Jark Matter from Kyuranger. In personality, each one is a natural villain: Red is a megalomaniac, Blue a war machine, Yellow a brute, Pink a yandere and Green a mad scientist. The clash between that and their attempts to act as heroes or blend into normal society could be a great source of both comedy and drama. Over the course of the series, they would have character development and grow genuinely fond of Earth and humans, but until the finale it'd be kept ambiguous whether they'd redeem themselves or not. |

Well, since I can give not only colors, but also a theme, I’ll try this. Red - Saber; Blue - Violin; Black - Swallow; Green - Willow; Pink - Pig. And the Trinity for Gold , who appears later. Since this is more complex than a single motif, you can choose what the theme, weapon or fur will be individually for each of the team. The main thing is to have a connection.

Graceful dancer, Shumi Blue! Sharp-eyed watcher, Shumi Black! Patient gardener, Shumi Green! Caring collector, Shumi Pink! Worldwide traveler, Shumi Gold! Passion is what makes life worth living! Jonetsu Sentai Shumiranger! The name means "Passion Team Hobby-ranger," five people whose great enthusiasm for their hobbies (kendo, classical music, birdwatching, gardening, stuffed animals and the Triathlon) gives them the power to stand up to an evil megacorporation that wants to steal peoples' passion and turn them into workaholics, with the ultimate goal of converting them into robots with no free will. That's right, while other sentai use the power of friendship or teamwork or bravery or whatever, the Shumirangers use the power of HOBBIES! It's less silly than it sounds, I swear, this story would emphasize how hobbies are a manifestation of people's passion and will to enjoy life. Red is a swordfighter, obviously, while Blue wields a baton and a dance-like fighting style, Black is a sharpshooter with a binoculars-themed gun, Green uses a sickle to cut down enemies, Pink has boxing gloves and the strength of a charging boar, and Gold fires air blasts from a bike pump and has super speed on land and in water. And much of their arsenal is given to them by other hobbyists they ally with, for example an indie mangaka is the one who first teaches them how to use their powers (which is also why their powers manifest as the usual sentai tropes like transformations and mecha), a model kit fan unlocks their mechas' ability to combine, and later a cosplayer's samurai garb becomes Red's super form. I admit these mismatched motifs were a challenge, but I actually quite like the resulting idea. Totally not a social commentary on Japan's infamous culture of overwork or on corporate greed in general ;) |

I wonder what a Red/Blue/Black/White/Pink lineup would look like.
Maybe have Blue be female and White be male; blue Mermaid, white Pegasus. |
What about a tribe-style team a la Gransazers, 3 per tribe? Red = Flame Tribe. Blue = Aqua Tribe. Green = Storm (mix of wind/air and lightning/thunder) Tribe. Yellow = Earth Tribe. vs Black = Darkness/Poison Tribe + the Monsters of the Week (MotW) and the leader of the villains (true darkness). The 4 main tribes of Flame, Aqua, Storm and Earth can (in the last few episodes maybe) combine all their powers to one guy and turn him into the warrior of Light/Aether.
Their powers are derived from Holy Beasts and the elements they represent (according to their respective tribes) whereas for the villains it is derived from Unholy Beasts and the element they represent. Their powers are weakened in this modern era due to the difference in atmosphere so their mystical powers mixed with modern technology to sustain its abilities. |

Traveling mermaid, Kihei Blue! Laughing vampire, Kihei Black! Soaring pegasus, Kihei White! Piercing unicorn, Kihei Pink! Rider and steed, united for justice! Tokkan Sentai, Kiheiger! The name means "Charge Team Cavalry-ger," and despite the mythical motif this is a scifi series. They're a trio of bikers who race across a post-apocalyptic landscape (which just-so-happens to be mostly Standard Toei Action Locations) helping those in need and standing up to an evil warlord with an army of monsters. Despite the rough setting, the Kiheigers have a strong code of honor, almost like knights, and wear mythical beasts as coats of arms on the backs of their jackets in civilian form and on their helmets in ranger form. "Wait, trio of bikers?" I hear you ask. "But aren't there five rangers?" Well, that's because the bikes are rangers too! Let me explain: Red, Blue and Black used to be just normal bikers until they stood up to the warlord, who retaliated by mortally injuring Red and wrecking all three of their bikes. They were saved by a mad scientist, who rebuilt Red into a cyborg and their bikes into androids, White and Pink. So, the three human members can transform between civilian and ranger forms, but the two androids instead change between humanoid and motorcycle! Blue rides White and Black rides Pink. Red's bike takes a little more explaining: It's normally stored in small form inside his cyborg arm, he can deploy it to dual-wield with the team's standard weapon (think the Zenrin Shooter, Legend Ride Magnum or Vrocan Buggy/Gatling, except I kinda want it to be a sword instead of a gun, just gotta figure out how to make that work), or it can expand to full size for riding. And since that means they have some size-changing tech, let's borrow from Zenkaiger and have their mecha be White, Pink and Red's bike grown to giant size. And their final mecha can be an even giant-er bike for the combined robo to ride! I guess the goal here is to make up for all the bike action that's missing from Kamen Rider XD |
I considered an alternate use of these colors and the mermaid and pegasus specifications, for a team focused on magic and "beautiful" mythical creatures (also ones stereotypical popular with girls), but the ideas I was coming up with for that felt like they belonged in Pretty Cure instead of Super Sentai. So instead I considered going for a mythical horse-and-rider theme, but then realized that real horses can't act much, so it would be better if the steeds could be played by suit actors. And from there, transforming bike-robots just seemed easier to make without looking creepy or ridiculous than horse-people. The post-apocalyptic setting was chosen to provide maximum excuses to film in quarries and other places that are good for bike action, and combining motorcycles and post-apocalypse make a biker aesthetic fit perfectly.

Prince of Water, Isan Blue! Princess of Storm, Isan Green! Prince of Earth, Isan Yellow! Prince of Darkness, Isan Black! Paladin of Light, Isan Silver! Holy Beasts, we honor your legacy! Kamimono Sentai Isanger! The name means "Godbeast Team Legacy-ger," and they're the heirs to five elemental tribes that have protected the world in secret since ancient times, each tribe blessed by the power of a Holy Beast: the Solar Lion, Ocean Turtle, Thunder Eagle, Mountain Ox and Shadow Cobra. For the longest time, the five tribes lived in harmony... until the king of the Darkness Clan decided he'd rather rule the world than protect it. He used manipulation and stealth attacks to turn the other clans against each other, leaving them too consumed with infighting to resist him, before launching open attacks on the populace with his shadow monsters. But two heroes stand against this evil: The princess of the Flame Clan, who received a vision from the Solar Lion imploring her to save the world, and the Darkness King's own son, who broke away from the clan in disgust at what they'd become. Gathering heirs from the other three clans who still believe in peace, and combining ancient magic with advanced technology, they vow to restore the balance and save the world! When the battle gets especially dire, they are joined by a mysterious warrior of light, who traveled back in time from a future where the Darkness Clan rules all and changing the past is the only hope left. He's cryptic and secretive, afraid of causing a paradox if he reveals too much, but sometimes slips up and refers to Red as "mother" or Black as "father"! |

Red, Yellow, Green, Blue, Pink, with Orange and Purple also joining later. Special feature: only shoes, belts, gloves and visors have their own custom colors, when most of the suits are gray. And when they get a team power-up, a color reversal happens.
