So let me end with an example in which the Tariffs suck because it's doing more than just what we've seen here. Ever heard of Kotetsu Toys Japan? Online import store owned by a man named Taka who has a lot of second hand and single versions of toys people can grab and is all around a good guy? He might end up having to close his store as a result of this. Dude has been dreading every bit of news we hear about it (I've been seeing it on Twitter, dude's not taking it well) because this store is his livelihood. Here's a video he made on it recently.

I'm just giving an example of the fact that small businesses and livelihoods are going to be hit hard by this. And yes, even the best global changes always destroy someone's life, but still, they should improve the majority and this is what justifies them. If we talk about what is happening now, then for the successful implementation of this idea, a period of preparation of the domestic economy is necessary, which was abandoned because populists are in power, preferring the shock effect and chatter to useful actions. Gee, has it occurred maybe people are capable of caring about the tariffs and can still be empathetic and sympathetic to small business owners who could be affected by them?

Like there's a ton of small independent artists who sell stuff like acrylic keychains/stands of their art or buy fabrics for handmade plushies that were processed out of the country.

I made the silly boo comment because I was just trying to be a bit silly to lighten the mood so that it's not too dour, but I do take the tariff situation very seriously. Because this affects way more than just my ability to buy and ship toys without high costs.

It doesn't just come across as sad, it is sad. I can't imagine being so unempathetic enough to a person that could potentially lose his livelihood to say that it's an "emotional appeal". Putting it another way, hobby spending is effectively dead, no matter what you're into, because almost everything we buy comes from overseas and abroad and what's left in here will not last long. And while some can make the argument of "well you shouldn't be concerned about toys anyway" understand that kids still, believe it or not, play with toys, still develop around them, and this is going to affect them considerably down the line because play is important to development. And just as much, hobbies are important to maintaining sound mental and even physical health, be it building a robot model or playing a sport. Both of which, I might remind you, require equipment or materials that are made overseas. Which means they're going to cost more. Which means a lot of people will no longer be able to afford them.

There is absolutely no upside to this situation no matter how much you contort yourself to look at it. It's not that there's going to be more money freed up to pay for necessities, it means necessities are going to become so exorbitant that there's less money to go around.

It's going to vary depending on what's being bought. The point I was making was that the duties are likely going to be high, regardless of what you're buying, and how this is going to affect online stores and small businesses. This isn't fearmongering or even false, this is just facts for now.

Agree with it or not, but the entire plan behind the tariffs from the Trump admin has been reciprocal tariffs in attempt to bring back US industry. You can say it won't work, it's a dumb way to do it, etc. But how you think that will encourage people to further engage with the Chinese economy and all its drawbacks is beyond me. Easy. Domestic industry will not rise, because it should have been developed before the tariffs were raised, in order to immediately offer consumers a replacement. And, in order to avoid a deficit and reduce the level of discontent a little, the government will back down. Having previously accompanied this with words that they were able to agree and achieved the desired goals. This is not the first time and will not be the last.

God, I remember when Deluxe Transformers were sold at around $10-$15. I miss that.

Though considering that this is GameStop, this might just be them deciding to overcharge Transformers, and then "discount" them to the correct price. Still, not looking forward to seeing how the tariffs will affect physical and online stores for everything else.
