No.1 Sentai Gozyuger Episoder 49- "WE ARE NO.1 SENTAI GOZYUGER!"
Hoeru must face FireCandle- and reveal his ultimate wish.
|
we will meet again someday.
|
Farewell super sentai! Till we meet again!
|
Show was good. Finale was kind of ruined by the Gozyu Unicorn stuff; it was so obvious how she was constantly left out of the group. One could say it was out of respect but I still hate it.
This scene is interesting, on one hand it’s tradition and kind of fun to do despite Sentai ending, on the other to me this looks like they are already preparing to do the “Gavan Infinity was a Super Sentai-show all along”-reveal :lol https://i.imgur.com/YcYMBjq.jpeg |
i thought this was disappointing. mostly due to the obvious editing around Unicorn. Hoeru fights the Ring War again... and wins again... but we see nothing from that. why not just wish to have his friends brought back to life and call it a day?
|
i though this day would never come.

Feeling pretty emotional about the end of both Gozyuger and Sentai as a whole. Whatever anyone says regarding Gavan Infinity and Project RED being the same thing, I don't really agree.
Theres a very distinct formula for Sentai and the rebranding is a sign that they are avoiding that exact mix of ingredients for the foreseeable future. And as silly as it sounds, there really is something to a name, isn't there? I came to Tokusatsu as a whole because I wanted to recapture what I felt watching Power Rangers as a kid, and when I heard that Sentai was in many ways better, and there were ways to watch it, I jumped right in with Gokaiger and learned a ton of the history through that, and just kept eating up shows from there. Before Gokaiger even finished airing I was binging old seasons. And from there, I fell in love, maybe even more, with Kamen Rider, and ever since then, my way of explaining and getting people to watch tokusatsu was to explain Superhero Time, how Sentai is the source Material for Power Rangers, and the original stuff is even better, and has been running even longer. That story I tell is going to change a bit now... Gozyuger's ending wasn't perfect, but I think the concept of the show, what it tried to do, and most of its execution, were an amazing note to end on. The show in itself is about accepting life, with all the pain and mistakes and dumb mundane stuff that comes with it... Maybe one day we'll see another Sentai, and we'll have a new era, like Kamen Rider had. Lets all hope Project RED willsomehow manage to fill as much space in our hearts each week as Super Sentai has for all these decades! |
I haven't seen Gozyuger, but it's both sad and beautiful to know that Super Sentai lasted for 50 years. Parting is such sweet sorrow indeed.
I'd love to binge-watch all of Sentai one day. |
Well, here we are... 50 Years, 49 shows, and a whole lot of toys. And speaking of toys, I got the TegaSword and RyoTegaSword just last week.
But anyway, I've wanted to yap about this show week-to-week like I used to but due to life being busy and whatnot, you'll just have to contend with me dropping a world feast about this show. To put it simply, I did really enjoy this show. Heck, I'd go as far as to say much like with Zenkaiger I would have loved even more episodes of this, but the main difference is that while the former was because it was just so charming and enjoyable that I just didn't want to say goodbye, this one was more like how I felt with Ultraman Blazar, where I kind of just wanted more to really satisfy me. This was a show that had a lot of clever wordplay that tied into a variety of different themes that shouldn't have worked together as well as they did but boy did they do it! From the Henshin Shout of "Engage!" being "engage the enemy" and "engage to be married (because rings)" or Wrestling bells and wedding bells, or Hoeru and Kuon's "you are my prey" being a circle (true) and a cross (false) respectively, Ai-ayes ("aye-aye, sir! or "Ai" = Love, or AI), No One/No. 1, or TegaJuune being Juu for Gun and June Bride while also being a finger gun/holding a knife, thinking about how these all fit and corelated made for a fun show. The Number One Battles being introduced with that group of "hype men" (I don't remember the right term, sorry) was something I enjoyed immensely every episode and was even happier that they never shortened it, and the fighting game style finishers were such a unique and different take than just a big explosion beam attack. The cast was great, my favorites being Ryugi (The Woz of Super Sentai), Firecandle (took my number one villain spot for last year, which would have been Kuon funny enough), and OrigaRed (I would love to see a TTFC Special starring him and am proud of that kid who designed him). I was a little back and forth with our main man Hoeru, mainly because I thought the whole "howling" thing just looked dumb when he wasn't in suit, but he did grow on me for some of his unique ways of tackling some of the Number One Battles. The Universe Warriors were a neat idea I kind of wish they did better for, like KuwagataOhger, who I was expecting to be saved for a big episode only to be disappointed that they just said "Nah, he just dropped out" or how I was initially expecting more cameos, but honestly I'm not too let down about that, even though I would have loved to see Kaito Zenkaizer again or one of my other favorite Reds, for what little returning Reds we get for here and the upcoming movie, that's good enough for me. I'll spare everyone the "drama" we had this season and how it kind of soured my opinion on the show a bit because of the timing with this being the last Sentai show, but aside from that, while there was a lot I enjoyed, I feel like there were some things that prevented this show from being the big finale I wish it was, besides the points I mentioned. Regardless of whether she is at fault or not, I genuinely wish the best to Imamori-San going forward, and if there is ever an opportunity where we get a TTFC Special with a Gozjyu Unicorn Number One Battle between the actresses, that would be neat. Also, can I just say that I'm surprised I was wrong about BearKuma being a twist villain just because his name sounds like it might have sounded like it was hinting at "Akuma/Demon" just because of how he'd say "Aaaah! Kumakumakumakuma!" Which wouldn't have been nearly as cool (or maybe it would have been, I don't know) as the Calamity (as short lived as it was) or Temu Elon Musk Garyuudo, or if the Knife guy was actually going to cut himself off Cake lady. Finally, again, even though I haven't watched G-Gundam yet, it's hilarious how many references this show has from it with Tomokazu Seki, the voice of the show's protagonist, Domon, being a Toei Producer AND the Akaranger Universe Warrior (which makes sense since he does voice him in some projects). Overall, it was another fun entry from Sentai, even if might not be my Number One (which would be Zenkaiger), I still have yet to watch Gokaiger (which I think I will watch later along with Goranger), but I was glad to have been a there with everyone to see Sentai's last big fight for now. Thank you, Super Sentai. Enjoy your break, you've earned it after spending 50 Years without breaks (Unless Hideaki Anno finally decides to make Shin Super Sentai next year). And when you return, I will be waiting for you. Until then, let us bear witness to the beginning of Project R.E.D. and see if it can become something great! |

Sorry for the double post, internet issues.

Speaking of the ouendan, just pretend they're doing their thing while you read this post, since it's finally time for....

Garyudo, Infinity Ranger and Lex barely deserve their wins, as they rely on cheap tactics or Calamity cheats. Among the Universe Rangers, Don Momotarou is Nippon Ichi until the end. Gozyu Polar only managed to defeat a single Universe Ranger in the entire second war, despite winning the first. Perhaps letting the Rings gather naturally is just his style? Something like, "Why should a god like me do the work of man?" While Dairanger was the most used Gear in Zenkaiger, the Ring was only used once after winning it from Ryu Ranger. Congrats to fans of Ryusoulger, Gaoranger, Gingaman, Kyoryuger and Goseiger, whose Rings are all tied for No.1 Most Used! Gingaman fans must be especially gratified, considering how the Gear in Zenkaiger was never ever used in the Geartlinger. After 4 years, justice for Gingaman has been delivered! Garyudo really loves Goseiger and I can't blame him, that's an awesome show. I suppose the angel motif is kind of similar to Tega June. Thoughts on the actual finale of Gozyuger and Super Sentai: I believe the reason why Hoeru couldn't explain to Origa Red what he wanted is due to him having already obtained it without realizing. He turned his back on a chance to reunite with his family, out of a sense of duty to his team, his friends, his pack of outcasts. They all accepted him, even with his rough personality, showed him he was not a wild animal who could only lash out, but rather their equal. Fire Candle also lost everything, but in contrast, he willingly became that wild animal, feeling like the anger and excitement of battle was the only thing left that could grant him respite from his grieving soul. I love the reversal of their dynamic from Episode 8, this time with Hoeru being the one actually fighting for something while Fire Candle loses himself in the mindlessness of the sensation. Hoeru spared him and Bridan gave him a second chance at life, like the Gozyugers gave Hoeru. And Hoeru gave his fellow Gozyugers a second chance at the Ring War, not for their sake, but for his own, fully realizing their value to him as friends. Then he won a second time anyway and wished for sausages, which is fine, since Literal Godness Kumade made all their wishes come true when he rewrote the laws of reality. Wonderful ending! If Gozyuger has a moral, I think it's best represented in Hoeru. Even if you don't have anything you feel strongly about, even if you feel alone and aimless without a destiny to call your own, there is value in living for the present, which can reveal all the mysterious possibilities for the future. Even something small like enjoying a sausage is something worth fighting for. Complete Reiwa Sentai Ranking: 1) King-Ohger 2) Zenkaiger 3) Gozyuger 4) Kiramager 5) Donbrothers 6) Boonboomger |

1) Boonboomger: It's just THE Super Sentai for me. Is it perfect? Nope. But I'd rewatch the show in its entirety if I had to. :lolol And how could one resist this masterpiece? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nrS6_ZGp_eg The rest are: 2) Gozyuger 3) King-Ohger 4) Kiramager 5) Zenkaiger 6) Donbrothers |

*Packs suitcases and runs away as an angry mob of Donbrothers fans are spotted from afar with Zanglass Swords in their hands and mouths like Zoro from One Piece* :lolol :lolol :lolol All joking aside, this does not make Donbrothers a bad show for me. Donbrothers is up there with Jetman for me as one of the must-sees, but for some reason I remember having more fun, personally, with Zenkaiger as a Super Sentai show. |
I currently have electricity on for an hour and off for five hours. So, I'm quite late in watching, and on the eve of Project Red's debut, I'm sharing my opinion on the Gozyuger finale. And yet, I can't ignore such a milestone.
What I like about Hoeru's desire is that we clearly see his changes. And twice in one episode. At first, he realizes he needs friends, but he doesn't know any other way to keep them other than repeating Ring War. It's only after a year that Hoeru realizes their bond is strong enough that friendship doesn't need any additional conditions. That's very cool and smart. I also like that Hoeru doesn't completely reject the idea of Fire Candle's eternal battle, but states that he has other interests. Moreover, after losing, Fire Candle realizes that he, too, has something and someone to do between fights with Gozyu Wolf. Additional Pros: - Divine Kumade and Angel Bear Kuma; - The appearance of Universe Warriors; - Kuon saves the day, thus at least somewhat atoning for everything he did on the show. It's an absolute happy ending for everyone except Calamity (who, as I understand it, Kumade completely wrote out of reality). It may seem far-fetched, but it's exactly what a show like this needs. I'll write more about this in my next post, dedicated to the show as a whole. An added bonus: Infinity Gavan's appearance at the end. It's great that there wasn't a classic handshake or a Kamen Rider-style cameo. I hope Project Red can create and maintain its own identity. Overall, a wonderful ending to a wonderful show. Not the best overall, or even in the Reiwa series, but it leaves the viewer with a happy smile. And that's what you need for the first and last show. |
What does it mean to be first? The most obvious answer is that it is the opposite of being last. The first achieves success by bypassing all rivals. But how is this success measured? After all, it is different for everyone. The achievements that one person spent their entire life on may mean nothing to others. How can you compare a detective and a singer without any set criteria for evaluation? There are eight billion people in the world with different characters, values, and goals. It is simply impossible to clearly identify the first among them.
Well, then it is quite natural to name the first one who will fulfill his dream. After all, everyone chooses his own goal and the path to it. Thus, everyone can be the first. But how to be the first when you are the last? And how to fulfill a dream when you have no desires? These are the questions that Sentai Gozyuger #1 suggests pondering. The show does this brightly, with drive, a lot of adventures, unexpected twists and colorful characters, whose charisma stands out even within the framework of a 50-year franchise. https://i.ibb.co/cSK6784Q/Fig-1.jpg I remember that Gozyuger immediately received a lot of compliments for the unusualness of the first episode. But I was not among those who praised the show. At that time, the story seemed to me like an overstuffed vinaigrette, where behind a bunch of bright tinsel they didn’t even have time to properly show the main characters. Well, I’ve rarely been so happy to be wrong. No, there's a lot of fluff in the show, but what saves it is that the writers clearly understand what story and idea they want to convey. And all the craziness and fan service only helps to reinforce the message without feeling boring or annoyingly repetitive. And yet the characters in the show are truly individuals who act according to their character, not plot devices. Perhaps the show can be criticized for not having a strong plot, but we should not forget that this is the last Super Sentai. Therefore, it should be like Super Sentai. Plus, it's better to watch your favorite episodes when you don't have to remember a bunch of events and plot twists that preceded them. I think it's also worth mentioning the anniversary part of the show. Gozyuger celebrates the 50th anniversary of Super Sentai and the first break in the franchise's history. Therefore, the show is filled with Easter eggs and fan service. Mostly these are Red Ranger costumes, but there are also some mechs and familiar actors, including from other franchises. All of this is pleasing to the eye of fans before the inevitable separation. It is worth noting that all of the Super Sentai of the Reiwa era have somehow recalled their predecessors. Zenkaiger and Donbrothers used costumes from previous shows, and King-Ohger and Boonboomger had nostalgic crossovers right in the shows themselves. Even Kiramager had an episode with guest stars and a bunch of Gekiranger references. So Gozyuger just continues that tradition. And the Universe Warriors stories do a great job of revealing the Gozyuger themselves, helping them grow and change for the better. Even if sometimes they draw attention to themselves, turning the main heroes into side characters. Continuing on this theme, it's worth noting that Gozyuger also looks like a combination of their Reiwa senpai. Their gimmick is rings, i.e. round (Boonboomger) jewels (Kiramager). It's an anniversary show like Zenkaiger. It has a thousand-year-old sixth white ranger like in King-Ohger. And the scriptwriter's last name is Inoue like in Donbrothers. However, this is just my small observation, which should not be taken seriously. https://i.ibb.co/zTb7cjLG/Fig-2.jpg I also want to talk about the characters. They are colorful, unusual, different. The situation makes them rivals, but despite the imposed competition, they become friends. And I especially like this, because it shows that good people will be able to get along despite any differences and even in adverse conditions. This is what makes Gozyuger so much better for me than other shows where characters rush headlong into a Battle Royale. But let's not get carried away, because I wanted to talk about the characters. Hoeru (Gozyu Wolf) is our Red Ranger. The main character, although not a leader, is an outsider, unable to hold down any job. As a child, he and his brother were taken to the No-One world and upon returning, he could not find his place in ours. He has no desire, but Tag Sword still chooses him to participate in the Rings War. And so it's very interesting to watch Hoeru's changes, his relationship with the worst brother in history and how the lone wolf finds his pack. It's pretty obvious that he ends up getting all the rings, but it's even more interesting to finally hear his wish. The only right wish in this situation. https://i.ibb.co/qYJTSLvj/Fig-3.jpg Rikuo (Gozyu Leon). Blue in Sentai is designed to complement Red. And with such a gloomy hero as Hoeru, it is not surprising that the stage star, who literally radiates charm, was chosen as Blue. He managed to find fans even among enemies. However, behind the mask of a flawless idol lies an insecurity that actually manifests itself much earlier than it is said out loud. The story with Rei is a good example of this. In any case, Rikuo and his songs brought a lot of positivity to the show. https://i.ibb.co/YTVgNk2M/Fig-4.jpg Ryugi (Gozyu Tyranno). I think the current Yellow can rightly be considered the least fan-favorite among both the Gozyuger and the entire franchise. The reason for this is that he is very difficult to relate to. The most similar characters that come to mind are Saruhara from Donbrothers and Neon from Geats, but they are still much more understandable. But it's quite difficult to see a wealthy heir who gives up everything for the sake of religion in a positive light. But it's worth a try. Ryugi is a character who is clearly aware of the injustice of the world and does not want to put up with it. Even though he occupies a sufficiently advantageous position so that a significant part of the problems does not affect him. He also understands that it is beyond the power of man to change the world and therefore turns to God. In this case, to Tega Sword. It is worth noting Ryugi's exceptional independence. He does not join any existing cult and in fact decides for himself how to worship the Tega Sword. Without even consulting the deity himself. So I understand why Ryugi might seem more alien and incomprehensible than an alien (another great find from the writers), but I think he still deserves respect and admiration. https://i.ibb.co/1Y2xfn4P/Fig-5.jpg Kinjiro (Gozyu Eagle). Every Super Sentai has its own heart. The one who holds the team together, taking care of others and helping them overcome adversity. In Gozyuger, this is Kinjiro. It's funny that in the Goranger, Midoranger was the youngest and least experienced of the team, while in the latest Sentai, the green color went to his complete opposite. And yet, he was still the youngest. Kinjiro is equally successful in making people laugh with his awkward combination of antiquity and modern trends, and in making them feel emotional with his longing for his lost youth and relationships with his family. Therefore, it is especially pleasing to realize that he has actually lived a wonderful life and continues to live it. And I also think that this role is shared by both actors, because even though the screen time of Joji was much smaller, he got some of the best moments. Both comedic and dramatic. https://i.ibb.co/zHsdRZfM/Fig-6.jpg Sumino (Gozyu Unicorn). Not my favorite, but one of the most striking female characters in the franchise. Her combination of seriousness and fun, professionalism and failure, craving for luxury and very mundane activities is definitely captivating. And the whole story with the lost sister is disturbing and makes you worry. So it's especially sad that the show gave Sumino undeservedly little time. Maybe she wasn't deprived compared to the others (at least until she was replaced), but for such a bright, unusual character, you want more. Of course, when talking about Sumino, one cannot ignore such an elephant as the replacement of the actress. On the eve of the finale of Gozyuger, the audience was shocked by two unpleasant pieces of news. And while the end of Super Sentai was rumored back in the days of Ryusoulger (and I'll boast that my prediction "they'll make it to 50 in any case" turned out to be true), the removal of Imamori from the role was truly unexpected. Well, at least for those who don't read Japanese forums. We've discussed this enough in the dedicated thread, so I can only correct my prediction. When we didn't know how Toei would solve this problem, I assumed that if Gozyuger got an anniversary movie, Sumino would definitely appear in it. Now that her role is played by two actresses, it's worth clarifying. I think we could very well see them both in 10 years. It's just that at some point Sumino-Shida will change into Sumino-Imamori and say, "The Tega Sword's spell has finally stopped working." Another option: in a few years, a commercial will appear with Imamori, where she will say: “I’m back. And you know who else is coming back… SUPER SENTAI!” In any case, after her release, most of the public and celebrities supported her, so if she wanted, she has the opportunity to continue her acting career. Also, this is the second year in a row that the Black Ranger is a former cop. That's definitely worth beating in a crossover. https://i.ibb.co/7ddrGRk9/Fig-7.jpg Kumade (Gozyu Polar). The show's Sixth Senshi, a big fan of money, honey, and cold. You could say he fell into the typical trap for Sixes in Super Sentai: a flashy appearance and a quick slide into a background character. Unfortunately, this is a problem of the format, when filler episodes are written without a clear understanding of when exactly they will take place. And so Sixth has to be written into the plot in retrospect, where there is no place for him. Still, Kumade boasts a cool appearance, a cute plot about a new outfit, and a gorgeous ending, where even his humorous weakness for high temperatures took on new colors. And Kuma Bear is an incredibly cute character (although he is a murderer. But also an angel ). So I'm glad Toei added he to the show. https://i.ibb.co/PvqptBpC/Fig-8.jpg I won't write much about the Tega family. I'll just say that if gods do exist, they're better be a family of robots with complicated relationships. And I'm really looking forward to seeing how Bundorio treats them to curry. Bridan. The main villains of the show. The organization of Tega June, which seeks to create an ideal world. But to do this, they must first destroy the existing one. And it is the realization that in this world there is something they value that leads them all to correction and coexistence (although Fire Candle resisted to the last). There is much to be said about the charm of Bouquet, the charisma of the Fiery Candle, the relationship between Cake and Knife. But the moment that particularly struck me was Tag June's realization of his own imperfection and, consequently, the impossibility of creating a perfect world. There was something particularly dramatic and profound about it. Calamity. The final villains of the show. Destructive forces in their purest form, and therefore, unlike Bridan, do not deserve sympathy. Mostly used for fight scenes and to show true evil. There's not much to say about them, except that they're the perfect choice for a cruel and ruthless enemy. I also want to note that both Bridan and Calamity are essentially about destruction, but with very different goals. This reminds me of Gotchard, where both the Sisters and the Kings were dark reflections of the show's riders, but on different principles. https://i.ibb.co/d4zVBzMr/Fig-9.jpg Of course, Gozyuger has its flaws. Despite all the show's efforts, it couldn't avoid the effect of repetition, there was clearly not enough plot for 49 episodes, and the scandal with Imamori greatly spoiled the audience's attitude towards the show. But at the same time, it's a series with a clear idea, great humor, well-thought-out lore, and vivid characters that the writer understands perfectly. That's why Akiko Inoue did an excellent job with her first show as head writer. I look forward to her further work in Kamen Rider, Project Red, other shows, and even in Super Sentai, when it returns sooner or later. I want to note that I really want to call Akiko Inoue: "Inoue who loves happy endings", but I understand that this is not entirely fair. It is quite possible that Toei insisted on a positive ending for all drama shows so as not to upset the viewer at the farewell. Just imagine the impression of an ending like Jetman. Videos with the title: "This is how Super Sentai died" would then be released by the thousands. So I'll wait for Akiko-san's other works to better understand her attitude to the tragedy. But I can already say with confidence that I like her style. To sum up, Gozyuger is a show that every fan of Super Sentai and tokusatsu in general should watch. And if it is someone's first time watching such a show, they will definitely not be disappointed. So Gozyuger is truly #1. https://i.ibb.co/nsjfD847/Fig-10.webp Goodbye, Gozyuger. See you later, Super Sentai. New, completely unknown worlds lie ahead, painted red. But for some reason they seem vaguely familiar and give off a strong 80s vibe… https://i.ibb.co/jPvZ6PQt/Fig-11.jpg |
